I've never smelled smoke or seen any hint of it on either of our cruises. Is this really an issue?
Yes, at times

- Make the adult areas of the top deck more separated from the rest. With the location of elevators in the newer ships at least, there's no way to use the elevator at the top deck without going through the adult area.
We have noticed on a couple of cruises that one of our neighbors constantly is out on their balcony smoking. It really takes away from the verandah experience when you and your kids have to be surrounded by smoke when you are out trying to enjoy the view and ocean air.I'll be honest and say I only noticed it once on my Panama Canal cruise. So no not a huge issue.
DCL only has a couple of small sections where people can smoke and is located in certain ways that the smoke doesn't affect others.
If they aren't following the rules now, why would they if it was declared 100% smoke free.
That's not my point. I don't think there would be full compliance if the ships became 100% smoke-free. There will always be ********* who think they are above the rules.
I'm just saying that there'd be a lot less people calling for 100% smoke-free ships if every smoker followed the rules and stuck to the designated areas.
A 100% smoke free ship from tried once before by Carnival back in the late 90's. No crew was allowed to smoke, no guests, supposedly none of the workers building her were allowed to smoke during the construction. It lasted for a few years and was just not profitable. Guests had to sign a contract stating they understood that the ship was smoke free and would pay a hefty fine if found smoking or even with cigarettes or cigars, etc. There were just enough people to fill the ships. Now, years later, maybe it work but I doubt it.
The name of the ship was the Carnival Paradise.

Easy they confiscate the cigarettes when boarding and install smoke alarms in all areas of the ship including balconies that alert crew to someone smoking.
