The Disney Wish, what are you wishing for?

I'll be honest and say I only noticed it once on my Panama Canal cruise. So no not a huge issue.
We have noticed on a couple of cruises that one of our neighbors constantly is out on their balcony smoking. It really takes away from the verandah experience when you and your kids have to be surrounded by smoke when you are out trying to enjoy the view and ocean air.

As previously stated, no casinos. Ship space is not infinite, add casinos, something has to go - the nice atrium, maybe the adult spaces on deck, etc.

Going against technology - how about a small library to check out a book to read on the promenade deck?

24 hr drink/coffee stations at a couple other locations than the pool deck. We usually stay on deck 9 on the new ships so 2 flights up not bad at night or in the morning, but if you're on a lower deck (let's say deck 4 reading again!) it's a ways up.

Com9etitive pricing.

DCL only has a couple of small sections where people can smoke and is located in certain ways that the smoke doesn't affect others.

The designated areas are fine in concept. The problem is that there are more than a few smokers who don't feel like the rules apply to them, and smoke on their balconies. I've had that happen on more than one cruise.

I don't think the calls for a 100% smoke-free ship would be as numerous if everybody was following the rules.

If they aren't following the rules now, why would they if it was declared 100% smoke free.

That's not my point. I don't think there would be full compliance if the ships became 100% smoke-free. There will always be ********* who think they are above the rules.

I'm just saying that there'd be a lot less people calling for 100% smoke-free ships if every smoker followed the rules and stuck to the designated areas.

One of the Dream's first sailings (before the official Maiden Voyage) was a cruise for the Boy and Girls Club so a MAW cruise sounds like a good idea to start her off!!!

A 100% smoke free ship from tried once before by Carnival back in the late 90's. No crew was allowed to smoke, no guests, supposedly none of the workers building her were allowed to smoke during the construction. It lasted for a few years and was just not profitable. Guests had to sign a contract stating they understood that the ship was smoke free and would pay a hefty fine if found smoking or even with cigarettes or cigars, etc. There were just enough people to fill the ships. Now, years later, maybe it work but I doubt it.

The name of the ship was the Carnival Paradise.

And it was a Paradise for those of us that prefer a non smoking environment. I always understood that the bigger issues with that ship was that the Casino and drink revenues were significantly lower on the Paradise than the rest of the fleet. They could fill the ship just fine but we werent spending enough money while on the ship.

Since the bread and butter for DCL isnt the Casino or drink sales a smoke free ship probably has the best chance of working for any of the big ship lines. Still doubt they would in essence make 20% of their fleet non smoking but as ships are added the the fleet (many, many years in the future) it might be possible.

Given that WDW is now forcing guests to leave the parks to smoke, I'm thinking public (and corporate) sentiment has changed a bit.

Obviously, they can't force guests to leave the ship to smoke (at least, not on sea days). But to @monkeydawn's comments, I wonder if a 100% smoke-free ship would drive away enough passengers to make a difference on a DCL sailing. Would smokers (at least, smokers who felt obliged to abide by the rules) shift more toward shorter sailings? Or would they really abandon DCL entirely?

I have no idea, but I am sure that there are people at Disney/DCL who have tracked and continue to track this very thing.

Easy they confiscate the cigarettes when boarding and install smoke alarms in all areas of the ship including balconies that alert crew to someone smoking.

The difference is in 90's over 25% of the US smoked vs 2017 which saw smokers drop to just 14% of the US population. You also have an expectation of smoke free in most areas of life these days. Even WDW is smoke free.

If we can't have larger pools, add another one. They are so crowded my kids won't even use them. Or maybe one for ages 13+. One adult, one 13+, and two kids/all ages.

NO CASINO'S. I love this about DCL!

Also NO anytime dining! I love having a dining team.

I feel like these two things are unique to DCL, I would hate to see that change.

See, I don't know why the rules aren't being more aggressively enforced now and having never smelled a whiff of smoke, I'm shocked that they aren't. Above, I hear about people constantly bothered by neighbors smoking on balconies, why haven't those people been chucked off the ship at the next port? (Or they can go directly in the drink as far as I'm concerned.) Why aren't the pot smokers handed over to the authorities at the next port for drug smuggling?

My "Wish" list:

  • An added specialty restaurant (Palo is still a must to stay, however Remy can go)...either a traditional or Brazilian-style steakhouse
  • Larger pools and more hot tubs...that actually stay open late (especially in the adults-only area)
  • Alexa/Google Home type technology to control lights, A/C, TV, etc in the room...and of course, USB ports everywhere
  • Some people have already mentioned a "DisneyQuest" type of space, and I agree. In lieu of a casino, I've previously mentioned many times that a "Dave & Busters"-like space would be a good compromise. It's pretty much the same idea.
  • A SotMK type interactive game throughout the ship with many levels so it would take a very long time before anyone could "win" or complete the game.
  • A buffet that stays as a buffet for dinner
  • Coke Freestyle machines replacing the regular drink stations on the pool deck and also added to other locations. Plus additional self-serve coffee stations throughout the ship so everyone doesn't have to trek up to the pool deck in the morning for coffee.
  • This can be on existing ships also, but a midnight movie on Funnelvision on most, if not all, nights.
  • No more Pirate Night!
