Nemesis Challenge 2

Just stopped in to give a little summary of my first 10k race. Race was in Atlantic city NJ. Wife and I went down on Fri night to spend the night so I did not have to drive down in the am. First thing we did when we got there was go sign up for the race and got my goody bag.

Then we proceeded to check in and went to get something to eat. After dinner of course we spent some time in the casino.
After returning to our room for the evening we find this waiting there from a friend. So of course now the evening continues on must drink the beer lol. Then the rest of the evening is a secret.

Well done sir! The 10k time I submitted is a 1:07:55 so we should end up in the same corral.

yes surprisingly I had some left in me. Dont think I had 6 miles left in me but I had some. Was in good shape when I was done. two days later my shin still feeling it but knee held out good.I have 3 months to get them extra 6 miles under my belt. And I am sure the beers at the finish line be be a motivating factor for me sO I hope to be ready.

Wow, you got a quick response. Took over a week for me to get that reply.

wish I hadn't been so lazy over the past few months...well year really. I'm going to end up in the last corral, which is where I probably should be. Actually got out for a run today and it was rough. 2 miles in 31 minutes. My neighborhood has a lot of large hills so that didnt help matters. Hoping to run on a more flat surface tues.

Ran on a much flatter surface today and only shaved a minute off my time.:confused3 2 miles 30 minutes. feel a lot better today afterward though.

Am I reading it right and they are talking a maximum 16 minute pace for the 5K? Due to Fasciitis, my Achilles and calf tighten up after .3 to .5 of a mile. The left calf becomes a solid rock and I need to take a break for a couple of minutes to loosen the calf enough to start again. Right now, I am about 25-30 minute pace.

It is highly unlikely that I will be able to cut that in half in 50+ days. Now my quandary is not getting the medal because that isn't going to happen but if I should even start. Would like to be able to do it with the Pirate Princess but not sure I want to be sitting on the bus of shame (or what ever they do in the 5K when you are swept) less than a mile into the race.

My plan is to keep training but hold no illusions on finishing.

I would rehab the foot for a couple weeks and hope that cleared up enough. If it keeps getting worse you def won't make it. Are you talking 25-30 minute per mile pace or to finish 5k?

I wish it was for the 5K. The condition is a chronic of inflammation of the tendons and not going to heal anytime in the near future. Been rehabbing it for the last 18 months with little progress until recently. The good news is that it cannot do any damage. It can just be extremely painful.

Mistakenly thought the 5K would have a more forgiving pace. Right now I am thinking of starting with her, going as far as I can and then slink away. She is running the Dopey and if (well, when) I go down, she will not be asked to sacrifice herself to hold off the sweepers.

If I decide not to give it a go, I will check around to see if anyone wants the bib.

From what I've heard they are much more forgiving on pace during the 5k's. I think my mom and her sisters were at about an hour for the Jingle Jungle 5k last weekend.

Vicodin and booze. It worked for Brett Favre back in the 90s, so it's a time-tested solution. :thumbsup2

Good luck, CJ. Has Crash been working on her strength training? Maybe she can drag you over the finish line?

yeah I'm familiar with it. with it being that long you may end up needing a splint to wear at night to keep everything stretched. strassburg socks can be worn at night and can decrease recovery time by a lot. I've done kinesio tape on patients with this and half think it helps and the other half don't really notice a big difference. You can find lots of youtube videos that will teach you how if you are interested in trying that. Not sure what all you have tried but those are some things I know have helped others. Good luck and if I can be of any assistance let me know.
