It is a tough question, but it seems like there has to be a better method than the one we have now. Several shooters in recent incidents have had contact with police that was ascribed to mental illness, even though they fell short of the criteria for involuntary commitment. It seems fairly reasonable to think that we could devise some sort of "buffer period", if not an outright ownership ban, following such incidents.

I'm not sure what socialism has to do with it, but our childhood poverty and inequality rates are among the highest of the world's developed nations. Just to use a few of the countries that have already been mentioned in this thread, our childhood poverty rate is almost 22%; Canada's is about 15%; Switzerland is 6%. We also have the 7th-highest rate of income inequality among the OCED nations. Canada is 19, Switzerland is 22.
