A "Common object" you don't have in your home

Is a rice cooker truly common? Maybe it is culturally or regionally popular? I don't know anyone who has one. I can't imagine why I would need one. I never even knew they existed until about a year ago.
Maybe we should have a poll? They've been around at least since I was a little kid. (I'm 49)

Speaking of rice cookers, will someone please explain the benefits of having one? My DH and I have had probably half a dozen people randomly suggest we get one in the past several months. I cook rice a couple times a week but it's the kind of thing that is already so easy -- pot of water and rice -- that I don't see how having a dedicated gadget would be worth it. But then everyone seems to be raving about rice cookers lately, so I feel like I must be missing something. :confused3
Put rice in, put water in, press button and walk away. Perfect rice every time. No waiting for water to boil, no pan watching, no pan scorching or undercooked rice. That all makes it worth having for me. Mine has a brown rice button I use for steel cut oats. I also cook quinoa in it. Not needed but it sure is handy.

I don't have a pizza cutter, a rice cooker, an insta-pot, a video gaming system, framed personal pictures, seasonal decorations (outside of Christmas decorations which I no longer put up), a wreath, fridge magnets, a Keurig, a toaster oven, a crock pot, a popcorn popper, an electric can opener, bread maker, I could go on and on. Guess I'm deprived.

No pizza cutter? Just...I can't with you...:lmao:

My ex took it, and without him around I don't find myself eating frozen pizza...that's probably going to make the situation even worse, right?
We order real pizzas from some great places which means the slices are as big as my head so we need it for that. We use it for quesadillas, cutting tortillas to make chips etc. I have two because you need a back up pizza cutter.

I don't have a coffee maker, or don't have it out and in use. There is one in storage I believe given as a gift, somewhere. Never been a coffee drinker.

I love your dedication to the pizza cutter! I won't talk about the insane amount of serving/glass/dinnerware I own.

I use pizza cutters for cutting brownies and fudge, too. And sculpey clay back when the kids were into that. I have a couple of them.

I also don't have makeup, but I do have a blow dryer. Every now and then I am running late or it is too cold to be out with wet hair.

My husband raves about the difference and always uses it when he makes rice. He never really liked rice before we got one. I'm usually too lazy to get it out and just use a pot on the stove. I will admit though that the rice cooker rice is always done perfectly.

I have one and use it so often it just sits out on my counter. I make rice in it for stir fry. I also use it for lunch a lot (I often microwave a piece of fish to have over steamed rice for lunch). I cook a pot and keep it in the fridge and just heat up what I need in the microwave.

Oh my goodness, I don't have an ice cream scoop either!!! I just eat it out of the carton with a spoon!

I THINK I may have an ice cream scoop, but it's buried in the bottom of the gadget drawer if it's there. I just use a regular spoon to scoop it out of the container.

But I rarely buy half-gallons (well, 48 oz. containers) of ice cream anymore. It's usually Haagen Dazs pints now and I eat right out of the carton.

Never found the need for a rice cooker. I'm sure they work well, but a pot on the stove is fine for me. Never had a problem. Maybe if I ate rice more frequently I'd consider getting a cooker, but I probably don't make rice more than twice a month.

I know one person who has a rice cooker. That's it. I don't know anyone who eats rice regularly enough to need one, I guess.
Even the Keurig vs coffee pot. A Keurig makes coffee..what's the difference? Besides the fact that you can only make one cup at a time. It's still a coffee maker.

I have an ice cream scoop, I think I have 3. And if by chance all 3 are dirty, I wash one if I need it. Using a regular spoon has never crossed my mind, I have no idea why. Lol

I remember being a teenager and baking cookies at a friend's house-she had no cookie sheets. She flipped over a 9X13 pan and used that. I thought that was the weirdest thing.

I don't have:
  1. A garbage disposal
  2. An automatic garage door opener.
  3. A toaster oven.
  4. A blender (Ummm, I think. Last one broken)
I have NEVER been in a house in NJ with a garbage disposal. All kinds of houses, never a disposal. I looked it up to see if there was some regulation against it, but there isn't, so I assume they're out there. My brother in law just bought a new build, I'm going to ask him if he has one.

I'Ve never understood them either? Do they do something the regular oven doesn't?
Toaster ovens heat up faster, and can be used for both toast and oven. We have a toaster oven, no toaster. I'd say we use it mostly for toasting, but unlike a toaster you can do more with it. My husband likes toasted cheese sandwiches and the toaster oven is perfect for that.
Oh, and it's perfect for leftover pizza-using the toast setting not the oven setting).

I don't even do that..I buy the Birdseye frozen rice and microwave it right in the bag.
