This is us..

I keep thinking about what you posted and I just wanted to come back and say, please come back and post more, at least on this thread at the very least. It's great to hear new ideas and interesting voices around here.

Although if I could nicely ask, could you please not have the next idea break my heart so crushingly? (I find the Pearson family storyline quite endearing and am having a hard time thinking about losing Jack.)

It is a crushing idea, isn't it? Sorry about that! That's why I had to put it out there. It has been on my mind for sure. My husband ended up watching it again with me just to see if we could pick up on anything else.
I normally don't watch dramas, but from the first episode I have become really invested in this family! Believe me, I'm hopeful that even after they reveal how he does die, that we will have a great deal of Jack's backstory left to see.

I definitely think this was the weakest episode out of the whole season. I was pretty disappointed. (Not disappointed because they didn't reveal how Jack passed.) I didn't delete it, maybe I will try and watch it again in a couple weeks and see if I feel differently, but I don't think I will.

New Poster here, but piggybacking off of the theory that Jack is already dead:

One thing I noticed was Jack was wearing the same outfit when he went to meet Rebecca as the outfit when they were dreaming him and William were hanging out together after their death?

Well, that would just about seal it for me that Jack is already gone. But I can't pinpoint when that would have happened. I'm thinking on the drive to see Rebecca sing....

Please make sure to come back for discussion of new episodes too when the second season starts -- even if I think your idea is another crushing blow to my Pearson family unit love.

It would make the whole episode pointless if that fight scene didn't actually happen though. Unless the fight happened before she left and they're purposely making us think it happened after. Hmmm

I like you very, very much right now. Your idea makes me much happier than thinking Jack is already dead.

I would really like this theory, except that during the fight she was wearing the sequin dress from the show....

But could that outfit be one she regularly wears to perform in? She comes home after the last show before the tour, he's been drinking and the fight starts because he doesn't want her to go. The kiss and all that happens before she leaves. She decides to go anyway thus the chilly goodbye. He decides to go see her and gets in an accident which is why she wakes up all puffy eyed, remembers the fight before and the reason for the distant look, light etc. during Jack's speech. I don't know probably a big stretch. Just...if that fight never happened the show loses all integrity with me. This isn't Days of Our Lives or Roseanne, it's more than fluff TV. At least I hope it is. Now I have to back and rewatch and pay more attention.

Yeah I agree it would make the entire episode pointless. Plus, if he were already dead and then the fight happened and Rebecca was just imagining it, why in the world would she imagine a fight with Jack? I would think if your spouse died then you would imagine fond memories happening, not a fight. It's just strange. But, the bright light and Jack's wink does make me very suspicious....

I've recovered the last two episodes on my TiVo and am going to pay specific attention to the clothes, bars, the way things are phrased. I'm starting to believe my own theory, dang it. It would make sense then why Kate would blame herself. Possibly the kids heard the fight then witness the chilly goodbye. My girl would send my DH after me if she knew things weren't okay.

I believe Jack was wearing this same outfit when the kids saw him on the ladder at the cabin as well.

Edit: Just saw picture from cabin and he was not wearing same outfit. Trying to find picture of him when he met William in the dream.

Nope, and I don't think Rebecca should have walked out of the bar that night. There must have been someone who could make sure that Jack didn't drive intoxicated. She should have performed. She had a responsibility to the band, and there was no reason for her to ditch them. She should have been professional enough to make it through that night no matter how she was feeling. I can understand if she felt that she couldn't continue the tour because she was worried about leaving a drinking Jack alone with the kids.

Jack was out of control. But I don't think she had the right to kick him out of their house either. That shouldn't have been a unilateral decision.
Agreed. If they are on the road is there not a hotel room for her? He could have gone there to sober up while she performed. There are other people in the band to consider.

Once her ex bf decided to make a move on the married singer all bets were off. If my SO were in that position I would expect him to leave. Not continue hanging out.

I watched it again. I thought that the lighting was kind of weird through the whole fight scene. I don't know if it means anything. We didn't actually see Jack walk into the light. The camera swung around to Rebecca and the window was a bright light (but that was what Jack was walking into).

What if an accident happened when Rebecca was driving home? That could explain why the kids are somewhat distant from Rebecca. She may not have told them the whole story and left Jack in a better light in their minds. Also, it would help explain the change in her as an older woman. Also, Kate could still perceive the whole thing as her fault. I don't want to think that Jack is dead at this point, though. I'm happy to wait to see how it plays out.
