Bring back the good o' days, Things ..........

does any one remember making paper bracelets out of chewing gun wrappers???
any one remember how to fold them???

I remember those! I could never figure out how to do it so someone made them for me. They were always made from the green Wrigleys wrappers.

I'm so glad to see instructions posted, now my dd can make them too.

OMG, I loved this thread! very OT, but great memories!

I just bought the 4 CD set of the Electric Company. My 5 year old DD LOVES it, and I can't believe how much of it I remember. I think I want to watch it more than she does. And it is really funny how now you recognize everyone... Morgan Freeman, Rita Moreno, voices of Gene Wilder, Joan Rivers, Mel Brooks - even Irene Cara was a member of the Short Circus.

It is a fantastic way to help kids read, too. I totally believe in phonics, and this makes a great supplement to her Balanced Literacy curriculum.

We have DVD set, too! I had never realized until watching these again years later what great phonics lessons these were! That's probably how I learned to read! I would love to use the DVDs for a learning center in the classroom.

Okay, since this thread has been revived and it's the holiday season, what about those memories?

Remember the white Christmas trees? We never had one when I was a kid, but I always envied those that did. Oh, how I wanted one of those white spray-painted trees in our house!

Even better! We had the silver metallic Christmas tree with the spinning light wheel that sat on the floor, and made the tree "change" color. Of course, everytime we walked across the carpet and got ANYWHERE near the darn thing we had sparks!

Or the huge 4-5 bulb light bar that we took our home movies with and everyone was squinting.

And we had the best house in the neighborhood, because Santa came to our house on Christmas Eve! Christmas morning was spent going to all our friends houses checking out their stuff.

I had that Barbie and loved her...that is until my dog bit her head off.
Our dog would pull off the Barbie's head and then chew off the neck/knob thing and chew up the arms and legs!? So, of course the head wouldn't stay on. But, my Dad being the ever so handyman, took one decapitated Barbie, cut off the chewed knob, stuck another chewed up Barbie's arm into the hole and soldered the whole thing into place. Think Sid on TS!

Poor Barbie, she had such a limited wardrobe. She could only wear high-necked outfits!

What great memories!
Anyone have a "Baby Alive" doll? It looked like Chuckie and mine ended up with WORMS.

I use to have baby alive. She was my favorite doll that I got for Christmas...but mine was cleaned out good. We kept the food real runny and always sinced her out with water.

I about flipped last year when I saw a commercial on TV for her. I just had to get one for my DD last January for her birthday. Once my DD outgrows her, I'm going to keep it since my mommy didn't keep mine.

I use to have that Rainbow Brite doll and watch the Dukes of Hazzard. I wanted to be with "the good ole boys"....HOT (just call me Mrs. Good Ole Boy).

My dad and I use to play games every Saturday night while mom worked. I remember having to listening to Solid Gold Saturday Night...1-800-634-5789. Can't get that darn song out of my head that they played for people to remember their phone number. Sure did work. I still remember it after 25+ years.

Also loved the Land of The Lost show. Cartoons: Flintstones, Jetsons, Smurfs, Snorkels (wish they'd bring snorkels back)

Jordache Jeans and some kind of Kangaroo sneakers (had zippers on side)...you couldn't really fit anything in them but it was a must have.

I also remember those charm bracelets. Wish they'd bring those back. My daughter would love one.

Little People House was one of my favorites.

OMG, I read your post and can hear the jingle in my head! LOL

OMG, is this ever bringing up old memories. The spinning x-mas tree with the wheel. My dad threw a cigarette out the window of the car and burned the back seat up. so we had to sit on little step stools and rugs. Boy was that ever tough going around corners on a step stool. but like PP said with 6 kids you couldn't go far. Click clacks that left huge bruies on your wrist. Mom always made us go to the unfinished basement to play with them. We made tents out of blankets over the clothes line. Penny candy, we got 1pc. of bazooka and one little tootsie roll. wow if that wasnt' a treat. And of course bread bags in boots.. Sounds like alot of us are from the olden days. eww. I used to say that about my parents.

I was taught a very bad rhyme:

Listen, listen, the cats ******
Where, where, under the chair
Quick, quick get the gun
Oh ****, now he's done

I remember getting in so much trouble when I got home and told it to my mom. I had no idea it was bad. She said "who taught you that?" My reply, "mam-mam did" (my grandmother). You should have seen the look on her face....priceless.

I remember the song "Bobby's Girl". I use to play this over and over again...

I want to be Bobby's girl
I want to be Bobby's girl
That's the most important thing to me...

And if I was Bobby's girl
If I was Bobby's girl
What a faithful, thankful girl I'd be.

Then in the Sunday paper was a record with the McDonalds Menu. This was from 1984.

Big Mac, Mc DLT, a Quarter-Pounder with some cheese, Filet-O-Fish, a hamburger, a cheeseburger, a Happy Meal. McNuggets, tasty golden french fries, regular or larger size, and salads: chef salad or garden, or a chicken salad oriental. Big Big Breakfast, Egg McMuffin, hot hot cakes, and sausage. Maybe biscuits, bacon, egg and cheese, a sausage, danish, hash browns too. And for dessert hot apple pies, and sundaes three varieties, a soft-serve cone, three kinds of shakes, and chocolatey chip cookies. And to drink a Coca-Cola, Diet Coke, and orange drink, A Sprite and coffee, decaf too, A lowfat milk, also an orange juice. I love McDonald's, good time great taste, and I get this all at one place... (couldn't remember after the sausage so I found it online)

Hee Hee, I was and still am Bobby's girl. Sweet hearts since 8th grade.

We'd get arrested if we traveled with our kids like that now! LOL

When I was a kid we had an old VW bug. The floor was all rusted out in the back seat where you put your feet. We had floor mats covering the holes, but when rained and we'd go through big puddles, we'd have to raise our feet up so they wouldn't get wet. My mom would yell, "puddle ahead" and we'd lift our feet.

A few years later she bought an old '63 Valliant for $90.00. It has a split bench seat in the front, but the seat back didn't stay up and instead flopped down on the person's lap who was in the back seat. We used to have to hold the seat back up with our legs so my mom could sit back and drive!

All these pages and no one talked about my man, Evil Knivel and his jump over the snake river.

Or having the Knieval "action figure", motorcycle and that motorcycle stand which you turned the wheel, pushed the button and then Knieval went on his way to jump something we had set up. :rotfl2:

I want a pair of those please:flower3:

I haven't finished everything on this thread, so sorry if these have been mentioned.

Um, real playground equipment! You know, merry-go-rounds and monkey bars!

Playing "spy" on the party line. (Boy, it was boring with our neighbors!)

Playing records on the wrong speed, unless it was the Chipmunks. We played them on slower speeds! Pausing while you were dancing to an 8-track when the track change landed in the middle of a song!

Here's what will get a parent arrested today: SLEEPING IN THE BACK DASHBOARD OF THE CAR on long trips!:rotfl:
