The Sweet Meet - Dis'ers do Hershey

No, I'm down for a 2011, but I'm thinking somewhere more Midwest in 2012...are there theme parks there? Cornfield Land?:confused3:goodvibes

Sorry, I'm just jumping in, couldn't make the Hershey meet, but I do live in cornfield land. In this area of the country we have, Six Flags St. Louis, Holiday World in Santa Claus Indiana and Six Flags Great America Gurnee IL (Chicagoland).

Cedar Point? :rolleyes1

- Bill

Me three! I was just going to say that ;)

It is quite a feat to conquer all 17 in one day. Near impossible with a group larger than 2.

Oh there are some of those water park inside the hotel places in the area too.

I was just looking at Cedar Point website... Took a look at the coasters information... :scared1::sad2::scared1::sad2::scared1:

Top Thrill Dragster is a behemoth, standing 420 feet above the Cedar Point midways. It opened as the tallest and fastest coaster in the world back in 2003, and riders can't seem to get enough of this "Top Thrill." 120MPH

Millennium Force is the park's star attraction, standing 310 feet above the Earth. It broke 10 world records when it opened in 2000 and continues to deliver ultimate thrills to those who challenge it. Dive to the ground at an 80-degree angle and reach speeds of 93 mph during your two-minute journey.

Raptor is one of the tallest and fastest inverted coasters in the world, featuring six head-over-heels inversions. Fly below the steel track with your feet dangling as you ride this bird of prey.

The Magnum XL-200 is a landmark at Cedar Point. Built as the first coaster in the world to top 200 feet, the Magnum travels along the Cedar Point Beach and right along the shores of Lake Erie. In addition to the multiple hills, its 72-mph speed, a unique "pretzel" turn-around and three tunnels, you can see Canada from the top of the lift hill on a clear day!

Holly..... :faint:

I'm game... might need to take a few extra pair of shorts to store in a locker.

We LOVED Holiday World, while not as big as Hershey and only wooden coasters it has a touch of the "magic". The Employees are as close to Disney as I've seen, free soda and sun screen and a great family atmosphere. I'd go back there in an instant.

CP is the king of coasters. Besides the ones you mentioned, Maverick might be the best of all of them. Magnum is better than most coasters and its older and there is seldom a wait. Several good wooden coasters also, they have so many coasters that are great you can't ride them all in a day.

Cedar Point is announcing their 2011 update on the 24th of this month. They are giving clues away on their facebook page.

This year's update was a water ride, that opened 45-50 days later than they expected.

There hasn't been enough demolition to show signs of a new big coaster, so I suspect it will be a thrill ride.

There are definite similarities in the rides at Hershey and Cedar Point.
Raptor is similar to Great Bear.
Wicked Twister is like Sidewinder.
Maverick is sorta like Trailblazer.
Etc.

Millenium Force is my all time favorite roller coaster though. High. Fast. Long. Usually an hour wait time, but well worth it.

Agree! Millenium is awesome, in the front for the view in the back for the speed. I'm torn between that and Maverick though, I think Maverick was a great addition and better than the two Hershey similar coasters.

So I have 1 question....

Being over 6' tall, how are the CP coasters for tall-guy fit?

Go to http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/park/rides/coasters/index.cfm

Each ride under more info... will show height requirements to the right side of the screen... plus videos that will wake you up.

Sadly height requirements RARELY give any information that is useful in this case.

Perfect example, look at Space Mountain. They have a minimum height requirement, but there is nothing to give you any idea/warning that with the seating arrangement and T-bar restraint that if you are over a certain height, you may have issues squeezing your legs inplace.

Other parks may have a warning about "guests of extreme height/weight" having problems fitting, but just like "Big&Tall" stores, often there is a bias towards the BIG vs the TALL. And to make matters even more annoying, sometimes the "test seats" you can find outside some rides will have the seat and restraint for you to verify your fit, but don't factor in the location of the seat or row in front of you, so even if you fit in the seat, you may not fit in the row the seat is placed in.

Thought this might be pointing towards Disneyland in 2012 and then Hawaii in 2013. Just to keep it going West. :rolleyes1

Cars Land will be open by then :rolleyes1

Tokyo Disney in 2014? ;)

I would be so there - DH just doesn't know yet! :lmao:

Hong Kong Disney in 2015

Disneyland Paris in 2016

That's a long time to wait for DLParis :rotfl2:

He who does all of the long-distance driving says, "Short plane ride, even more doable.":rotfl:

:lmao: :thumbsup2

cheers,
:flower3:

Knoebels is a great park. You only pay if you ride the rides which is good for me since only my kids ride. But there are only 2 wooden coasters.

So, I just have to know where the ghetto was and which cheesesteak place you ended up at. I'm always looking for a good spot. :)

I know we headed south of Harrisburg over the bridge a couple of exits and somehow ended up in the ghetto. I'm not an "uppity" person, but it was somewhere I didn't want my children. :scared1:

The second area was more of a residential area. It was very nice and well kept. (Camp Hill) :thumbsup2 The cheesesteak was really good. It tasted better than the picture. Poor Bill, he was about to take a bite and I yelled, "Stop! Let me take a picture." My Disney habit of taking "food porn" never ends. :rotfl:

:goodvibes Jennifer

Awesome post Jen! It was great meeting you and Bill. Your kids are adorable. :)

 It was great to finally meet you. However, I wish we had longer to chat.

Sorry, we didn't meet back up on Saturday. Once afternoon hit, Cole was ready to leave the park. He was a trooper and walked throughout the whole park. He's at the age where it's iffy to bring a stroller. :confused3 He turns the "BIG 5" on Monday. My baby is all grown up!!!! :sad1:

:rolleyes1 I can't wait for DATW when Bill and I can "really" drink. We rarely get out without the kids lately. The sitter is booked for DATW and I'm ready! :woohoo:

We'll be neighbors on the cruise in steerage. Hey! It's better to be on the ship than not. ;)

:goodvibes Jennifer

About 8-1/2 hours for us, definitely doable.:thumbsup2

If anybody is interested in another PA meet. This place has a really good reputation. And, very important to Dissers - is supposed to have very good food!

The food there is very good. They have won awards for best theme park food. The rides on the other hand you should know are recycled from carnivals and other theme parks etc. so they do not look the best. The park has lots of trees for shade though. And it is still family owned. It is pay as you go and you are allowed to bring in a picnic as well. On select dates they offer an all you can ride wristband though. They also have a water park with slides that you can pay as you go or buy a water slide pass. As well as a big pool. For those that like to camp they have a campground right on site as well.

Was it Al's Pizza or perhaps Brothers Pizza? I know they have a few other locations around Central PA as well.

Philly Steak and Hoagies is the best place for cheese steaks outside of Philly (Bill told me where in a PM). The camp hill location is 5 min from our work. You guys made us hungry for one, so we went there yesterday for lunch.

Story behind the place is that it is owned by two brothers (one runs the camp hill location, the other Harrisburg location). Legand has it they went to Philly, dumpster dove at Pat's, dumpster dove at Geno's, found what items they used, then ordered that stuff to open a shop in Harrisburg. I do know they have the bread brought in fresh from Philly everyday.

I know what you mean about strollers. Ethan is 4 and walked the whole time also. He pretty much gave up riding in one last year and I haven't said one word about it. I think he thinks he is a big boy now since Evan has taken over all strollers.

I am still trying to decide about a sitter for DATW. Part of me wants to get a service come to the room so sleep habits aren't too off schedule. Part of me is nervous about a service.

Glad to have some neighbors in steerage!:dance3:

I'll be honest with you that I was very nervous about using Kids Nite Out the first time, but they have been absolutely awesome every time we've used them! I'm pretty sure you're aware of them but I wanted to share that we too had similar concerns. :goodvibes
