Is anyone considering postponing a trip?

My 2 cents… whatever decision you make - make it before the point at which you’d lose $200 to Disney. Don’t give Disney $200 of your hard earned $$$ when it could go toward the trip or a future trip instead! Ask yourself if you’ll have FOMO if you don’t go. Be honest with yourself about your own personal health situation.

:fish:

Then decide.

If it were me and the trip was already planned I’d likely go. Partially to not have to spend more time planning a future trip (again) lol

amongst many other fun reasons.

But whatever you do - make the decision and don’t look back.

(And don’t lose $😉)

I'm not keen on international travel right now and am postponing that and doing domestic travel instead. Even thought the probability is low, I just don't want to take the chance of someone in my party testing positive for COVID-19 and not being able to get back into the US. This happened to one of my vaccinated co-workers, and he was delayed an additional two weeks in a foreign country (missed two additional weeks of work and had to pay a lot of extra money for a flight home). Luckily for him, he was visiting family, so had a freebie place to stay. // I'm not overly anxious about US travel though and am going ahead with trips. I think though everyone needs to follow their own heart on what risks to take and what to do / not do.

We are going to Orlando March of 2022 and I like the fact that we'll be able to all probably get COVID booster shots before that. Genie+ and LL don't sound too bad to me. Touring plans had a nice write up that made it easy for me to understand (or at least I think I understand it), and a lot of it is so much like the old paper fastpass system that I knew and loved. We'll have some of the 20 somethings get this (upped my budget for it), so they can have some shorter queues. I'm going with my 85 year old dad to Epcot for two days and I won't get this for us as we aren't doing that many rides and I don't want to do a lot of backtracking or be stuck to a time schedule with dad. We're mostly there to do Flower and Garden and projected queues aren't too bad. We'll maybe have maybe two longer lines (Soarin once and Frozen once). Projections from Touringplans.com are for pretty short lines for our other stuff. Plus we'll be looking at flower exhibits, countries, shows (a lot of stuff like that) that isn't standing at a line so much.

Enjoy whatever you decide. There is not right or wrong answer.

We went in July, and then were supposed to go back in August--- cancelled due to Virus concerns, (due to my DS10)
Re-booked for Dec, and definitely going !! All three of us will be fully vaccinated by then, and we need a vacation so badly !!

For Covid reasons? No, not anymore. DD got her first shot last week, and will be fully vaxxed before we go in December.

But! I have decided to break from Disney after this last trip (planned over a year ago). I am not a fan of recent changes to Disney's bottom line. I have told my friends (who rely on me as their Disney expert) to delay their trips a couple of years. So, I suppose I am delaying the long-awaited 2022 trip I was planning with some friends of mine (and my godson). I will wait until their money can be better spent.

All that being said, if you have Covid concerns - I hear and understand you. You need to make the decision which is best for your family, and not listen to unprofessional opinions of others.

Our trip is over xmas and with covid and this new genie+ (which I know nothing about at the moment), I am thinking about waiting until 2022.

I dread any negative changes to covid policy and trying to learn about this new ticketing system. Final payment is coming up even though I think I would only be out $200 if I cancel in December which I can live with.

I am on the fence right now.
In the parks for nine days at the end of October. HATED wearing a mask so much. On our July visit we only had to wear masks when on transportation. Such a big difference. I assure the Genie+ is no fun for us. Be sure to have a newer phone. IPhone 6 will not work and IPhone 7 worked sporadically. And try to find a menu when eating out. Fine dining and codes to read menus on a phone are not desirable. Being glued to tech is changing the way we look at Disney.

its just my two cents worth, but in my opinion I suspect xmas will be as crowded this year as in recent years before COVID. It would be nice if it wasn't as crowded but i know park and resort reservation availability during late December currently is limited if not non existent. My family got COVID - some in March and some in September of this year and trust me its nothing to take lightly if u havent been vaccinated and maybe even if u have been especially for those 50 and over. I got the flu and covid at the same time☹️.

I understand your concern because we usually go to WDW at thanksgiving or christmas. In 2019, we went the week leading up to thanksgiving during which fastpass availablity was non existent day of. You could only use what was prebooked. I am just unsure what impact high crowds would have on genie plus and ILL availability. I think i am going to try to watch the wait times and availability tomorrow. i intended to watch it today but forgot. We were thinking about going next year but with all the price increases we may wait till 2023, if then.

Thanks for the discussion everyone.

I tried to add genie+ to my package and could not do it online. The disney rep could not do it either so I am currently on hold as she is on hold with another ticketing specialist.

Been on the phone for 60 mins so far. At least I figured out the issue with the disney bands.

We postponed our 2020 and 2021 trips. We are going to go in 2022. I’m already feeling like my 5 year old isn’t as into the princesses anymore (I know she’ll be excited when we go no matter what) and I really want to experience that magic with her again.

I cancelled last November because of surging cases. However, this year we are going in December. Everyone in our party is vaccinated and Ive been able to get a booster as well. I feel pretty comfortable going, but you need to be comfortable to go or you wont enjoy your trip.

My vaccinated adult niece was at the Magic Kingdom a week ago today. She tested positive on Thursday. Did she get it there? Who knows. I have reservations for Dec. 7th through the 9th. Heading home on the 9th. I figured during the week would be less crowded. I do not plan on staying to watch fireworks anywhere nor will I eat in a sit down inside restaurant. I am vaccinated as well as have my booster. My vaccinated daughter and 17 month old grandson will be with me. I admit, I am a bit nervous about my grandson. He cannot wear a mask.

Considering, yes. Well, past tense. I gave it serious consideration, but I decided that I just couldn't mentally handle another postponement.

I've wanted to go to Disney World for 40+ years since I was a child watching the Sunday Disney show. DH *hated* the idea. About a year before I was going to mandate a Disney trip, DH heard about Star Wars at Disney and changed his mind. He said he'd like to go one year after all the Star Wars stuff was finished. Some friends of ours went to the Harry Potter area when it first opened and a year later, and the year later was MUCH better since they worked out the kinks. That made sense. We are homeschoolers so also wanted to go when everyone else was in school. Late January 2021 was the date picked as the first low crowd time after the one-year anniversary of Star Wars. These discussions were summer 2019.

We postponed the Jan 2021 trip to Jan 2022. I wanted to wait until a list of things were back that included Parking trams and hugging princesses. So, I gave serious consideration recently to cancelling. But, then I decided that I'd lose all enthusiasm for the trip if I postponed again. This trip has already been in planning for two years. The family left the decision to me.

I am upset about lot of the recent Disney changes. Disney being the poster child for Skrimpflation sums up my problem. But, the trip now is actually a lot cheaper than the original, even adding G+ tickets. The Disney dining budget is a fraction of what it was, and we are now staying off-site. Staying off-site also helps with the Disney dining budget. For example, we were originally going to LTT for the Ooey Gooey Toffee Cake. But, they don't do ala carte anymore, *and* I've heard that it has been dry lately. So, neither Ooey nor Gooey. So, now I am going to make the cake in our condo.
We'd also wanted to do the DiveQuest and Animal Trek and those aren't happening. But, that saves us around $1300.

I just cancelled my trip for June 2022. The biggest factor is that one of my party was just diagnosed with stage 4 liver and lung cancer and won't be ready for a trip like Disney by June. I could have taken our 2 nieces and nephew on my own but everyone else agreed to wait until she is feeling better. Plus there are still so many things not opened yet and I have been reading so many negative things about Disney and the airlines that I am willing to see if things improve. My nephew wants to make a light saber and mowed my lawn several times this past summer. I alternated between paying him in Disney gift cards and cash and he is about half way to the total in gift cards. Now he has time to earn more gift cards and I have more time to earn airline points and $.

Definitely postponing a WDW trip for at least another year, and seriously considering just not going at all. After 20+ trips in 15 years, I’m no longer enthused. Dislike all the changes: Genie+; discontinuation of MDE; ridiculous amount of planning involved (with convoluted rules); fewer extras but plenty of added fees, lack of creativity (uninspired names for new ride passes, for example); ongoing construction in Epcot (not convinced the new stuff will be worth a trip especially if Harmonius is any kind of indication)…and on and on.

We lost 2 trips last year. We did our April and October trips this year and loved them. Yes, they were not the same as previous trips, but we had a lot fun and enjoyed the trips.
I can't tell you to go or don't go. We are vaccinated, wore masks where required and where we felt we should and felt very safe. We have 2 trips planned for next year and have every intention of going.

We’re not postponing our holiday trip - we have our booster shots and plan to follow all safety protocols that we can, and will be wearing masks inside and out - but this is our only and last visit to Florida while the health crisis is ongoing. We prefer DLR and DLP and trust their locations/policies more, so we’ll go there for a Disney fix. It’s a personal decision - we’ve been to WDW many times and we don’t have any ”must do or the trip will be ruined” items on our list, so we plan to take it easy and tap out if other guests/situations make us feel uncomfortable. If this were a once in a lifetime trip and I felt pressure to do all the things possible, I’d postpone or visit a different Disney park.

We are here now. My DM is elderly and not eligible for the booster until next month but got the flu shot and my DH has health issues with a compromised immune system he had his flu shot and booster. We kept thinking about whether we should cancel as we kept getting closer and decided to still go that this could be around for a while and we need to get out and do things and enjoy life and celebrate after the year we have had.

We did a few days at Universal where they have no mask requirements just announcements it is recommended and some people wore them some did not.Yes at Disney we are seeing people not wear masks in the bathroom.

The CMs we have encountered have been wonderful. Yesterday was DH’s birthday and had the button so everywhere we went he was wished a Happy Birthday. In the food court at breakfast he was given a treat and stickers. At lunch he has food allergies and they brought him sorbet with a candle in it. Do not want to jinx anything but Genie+ has been working ok for us so far and the mobile ordering has as well for the few meals we have not had at TS. I am bad when it comes to technology but the app is so easy to use. We are having an amazing time so far.

We have gone 3 times since covid and me and DD (who is 2 ) is going for a 4th time next week. I’m vaccinated only because my work made it convenient for me to get otherwise I likely wouldn’t be. I already had covid. DD did not show any symptoms of Covid even though she was with me the entire time I had it. I’m not worried about covid at the parks because I can just as easily pick it up any place. We don’t wear masks anywhere where we live and I only plan to wear masks during vacation where it is the rule that I have to. I wish the covid restrictions in disney in would all be lifted and we could have “normal” disney with character hugs and no masks, etc. but I realize that isn’t likely to happen anytime soon. So, we modify our expectations of the trip and will have a blast even with the current restrictions.

We’re seriously leaning toward cancelling our January trip. Between Genie+ replacing the old fast pass system, the higher prices, and the idea of being around that many unmasked strangers the idea of Disney gives me stress instead of excitement right now. I am vaccinated but also immunocompromised and one of my children is too young to get vaccinated. I miss pre-pandemic Disney trips so much!
