Ah! Google.......sometimes I need the simple answers pointed out to me!
(I think the Bells is maybe Church bells ringing in the New Year? That's my guess anyways.)

In fact Christmas as a festival was banned in Scotland following the reformation.
The night would begin with a meal with steak pie being the main course.
They would then all take a turn of singing a song or reciting a poem.
Although you don't really hear bells now, midnight is still referred to as 'the bells'.
I definitely felt I had taken on the mantle of the older generation as I ranted "It's Hogmanay". At least my grannie would be proud!
A guid new year to ane an a
An mony may ye see,
An during a the years to come,
O happy may ye be.
An may ye ne'er hae cause to mourn,
To sigh or shed a tear;
To ane an a baith great an sma
A hearty guid New year.
Yumm.... Or... was it?
I do too - it's a tradition I would love to revive,I like that. Nice.
Well someone has to do!Good for you!
oooh.... I really like that.
The only part I didn't get was.... "baith". What's that?
Happy New Year to you as well.
Funny, I did the same thing and saw Rogue One on the afternoon of New year's Eve.
Well you will need to come over some year to get the full experience.I've always been a little disappointed that I didn't get to experience a proper Scottish Hogmanay - I was stuck on an oil rig in the North Sea on New Year's during the year I spent in Aberdeen.
Just awesome pictures of you being the Grand Marshall by the way. Incredible luck you had that day and surely an experience to remember.
Not so great without the FP and a 90 minute wait.
Just sayin'.
Sheesh. I guess I'm hungry.
Cause Dang! that looks good.
I can see why - we got two tubs of it!One TR writer calls it the Broccoli house.
Coming from the land of fish and chips.... how was that?
It used to be that Dumbo was one of the longest lines in the park.... huh.
What?!?!? How can you be too old for the play area?!?!?
And trust me.... you don't want to.
Horrid.
You get your personal photog, too!?!?
Running.
Running alongside the car.
OMG
I know. We would never have known I suppose and hopefully they won't either.Their loss. Your gain.
Absolutely - I did wear them a few more days to the Magic Kingdom.Great souvenir!
Chelsea did a great job!Great shots!
Wonder why. Everything's choreographed, so I'm not surprised... but... why?
Happy New Year to you too!
Annnnnd.... thanks for making me Google that!
I have no idea what a Hogmanay is nor am I sure what you mean by the Bells, but Happy New Year anyway Fiona lol! I am going to guess that maybe the Bells is something equivalent to the ball drop in Times Square in NYC? No? How far off am I
Holy Splash Mountain line! We've waited in the outside portion of the queue before but not for a longer wait than 30 minutes and that was like, once. But in the summer that line gets crazy! I understand being hot enough to want to ride Splash, but I don't understand why, in that awful summer heat, anyone would wait in an outdoor line that long
I think Dumbo is underrated as a ride for older kids/adults. Besides the nostalgic factor it's a cool view up there! I enjoy it and I like Aladdin's carpets for the same reason.
So exciting getting ready to be the Grand Marshalls in the parade!!!! I love those PP pictures of you all in the ears, especially where your arms are around each other
Can't wait to read more, don't make me wait months for another update

I really enjoyed it. I had heard about the slow start, but I didn't think it was too bad, I was kept entertained. The battle on Scarif was fantastic. I was trying to decide if I like it better than The Force Awakens. I don't think so. I guess TFA was just so nostalgic for me, seeing all the original characters back again. But Rogue One really held up the bar. Makes me look forward to the other stand alone films if they are as good. What did you think? I felt the start was a bit slow but I think overall it was pretty classic star wars.

Steak pie is a favourite of mine all year round. You can get great steak pie at the butchers. The beef is really tender in a lovely gravy with puff pastry on top. We tend to have it on New Year's Day rather than Hogmanay but I think having it before the bells was to soak up the alcohol.
Baith will be both. I have seen a version that has the lyrics as 'To ane an 'a, baith great an' sma' which makes it easier to understand the sense of it. Of course it does have the inevitable verse about running about the braes!
OK but not a patch on chip shop fish and chips with salt and malt vinegar.
I remember it well! Hannah's first Disney trip was with my Mum and Dad to Disneyland Paris. When they got back they said that they had a huge wait for Dumbo and the tea cups because Hannah insisted on waiting for a pink one. I was like "and you let her?"
Well it's all I can think of but if so it's not very true to Walt's vision of playing together. It's not fair!
Running along the parade route in July and the temperature had already hit 100 in the morning. I will share her photos so that her efforts were not in vain.
I know. We would never have known I suppose and hopefully they won't either.
I think it is to do with the children not being hidden behind the driver. Not that mine are particularly small!
Where would we be without google? Did you learn something new? Which version of where the name for Hogmanay came from do you like best? In our family we refer to it as 'Hug Many' as it's the perfect excuse for hugging people.
both. Never would've guessed.... but then you had to throw in "braes"! What the heck is that! (and stop that!!)
Great. Now I have to wipe drool off the keyboard.
Good! These, I gotta see.
Oh, I hope they find out. <insert evil grin>
I like hug many... for the same reason!
We did Rogue One on new years eve also, along with some Chinese food and the DD spent a little birthday money.
did read some spoilers because I had to decide if DD should see it or not but never read about the ending somehow so I was actually surprised once I realized what was happening.
I think I will adopt Hogmanay now. It sounds so much more interesting then New years eve. Not that I ever see the bells anymore. ;-)
Yay I'm pleasing someone! It's great to have you here. You are early on in the trip this is only Day 2 of a 14 night trip.I am personally very happy you took time off on the TR so I could find it!
Being chosen as grand marshals - fantastic and I always wondered how they might get picked.
The PhotoPass deal I understand - had trouble last time downloading so just bought the CD - did like that on there were the integrated motion items like Tower of Terror story/drop.
You know what was more interesting? All the people on the CD who were not us. Can't wait to see more!
Love the SM photos! It seems everyone knows where all the ride cameras are except me! I will definitely need to do more research on this before June bc if you remember from my TR, I took horrible ride photos!
So fun getting ready to be Grand Marshalls! I can't wait to read about the rest of the experience!
Happy New Year...err, I mean Hogmanay! I'm headed back to work tomorrow. Boo hoo!
Just joining in!
A little late, but I'm all caught up.
How exciting to be chosen for the parade!
I can't wait to read more!
This makes me hungry! I do miss the chippies in Aberdeen. And the little carts to stop for a bacon buttie. (I hope I'm remembering and spelling those words correctly, it's been almost 20 years!) One thing I regret not trying was a deep fried Mars bar. I'll just have to go back I suppose.Well seeing you got me thinking about chip shops I stopped in tonight for a couple of sausage suppers.
atience you must have, my young padawan!
I wonder if Hug Many begins to be celebrated round the globe will they attribute it to Princess Leia?

Drooling again?I need more paper towels...

<throws hissy fit>
Could have worse things attributed.
