Accident at Disneyland Paris

I'm really pleased this turned out alright and the little boy is fine but what I don't understand is that although boats get bumped sometimes throughout the ride on POTC and frequently near the end, once they ride up onto the disembarking platform they don't get pushed from behind any more in my experience. We were on the back of second boat earlier this evening (came outside and it was pouring with rain!) and I particularly noted that despite being bumped all the way back from the drinking skeleton once we got up to where we got off the boat behind never touched us.

Same on IASW, I've never noticed being bumped when getting on or off, just in the lead up to the end. :confused3

I don't know what happened in IASM, all the CM said was, a little girl fell out, maybe she wanted to have better look and sat closer to the edge of the boat or something, trying to bend over?

Guess we'll never know what really happens when something does happen.

Sometimes the satback from the boat can be a little harsh though, I think harsher for little kids, when the boat stops even though it's already on the platform where you need to get out.

I agree with this. I can;t see how you can fall and get crushed on the loading and disembarking part, there isn't enough gap. I can only imagine it happened before this when technically you shouldn't be standing. Having said that i'm glad the boy is fine and out of hospital, obviously the injuries were no where near as bad as portrayed by the media.

The police statement translated by google said 'the child stood up before the boat was locked'. I'm not sure if that means before the boat was pulled onto the runners operated by the cm's or before it fully stopped, like others have mentioned i dont recall being bumped once the boat is on the controlled part of the track, guess we'll never know.
:confused3

That backs up what a CM said, that he stood up before the boats were in the docking area and got that's how he got knocked off.

Great to hear he's doing okay and a lesson to us all, as it's not just kids who don't stay seated until it has docked completely!

Blog from Alain Littaye (Disney and more) today

Editor's Note: Good news about the young child who had an accident in DLP Pirates of Caribbean as he is apparently now out of the hospital with small wounds and even went back to the Santa Fe hotel before going back home safe, with his father. The father admit that what happened was due to a lack of vigilance from him and, as i thought, the accident happened at the arrival before the complete stop of the boat, just before the AA pirate skull head... precisely asking guests to remain sitting.

That clears that up then, but the good news is that the boy is fine and able to go home:)

Won't say its a surprise to hear that, but I'm glad the boy is alright now.

Just wish the press hadn't blown it all out of proportion.........

It is being reported in the French press that lawyers acting on behalf of little Iban parent's have filed a complaint against DLP in the French courts for unintentional injuries and a breach of safety rules.

Just seen this on DLRP Express facebook site:

[News Express] The parents of little Iban (victim of the accident on October 30) filed a complaint for unintentional injury and breach of safety rules today announced their lawyer.

Reading this made me annoyed as did not dad admit it was his fault. Some of the comments made by fans are ones of disgust.

Wondered what folks on here thought, as I read that he was discharged from hospital and went back to Disney for the rest of his hols.:confused3

You let your kid stand up on a ride. He falls out. Now you sue. How did I know this would happen.

I think to have the cheek to go back knowing you will sue isn't right.

It's the norm now though unfortunately. I expect they were contacted by lawyers saying they could help the win. They just see the cash reward at the end of it. :(

I do not know the French legal very well but in the UK and the USA compensation for personal injury is very big business.

Many guests who have accidents at Walt Disney World pursue legal action against the resort. In Florida there are personal injury lawsuit attorneys who specialise in theme park accidents against the Walt Disney Corporation.

Perhaps we should sue the father for closing down POTC for more than two days due to negligence in parental responsibility...

Didn't the father say, which is stated in a few posts before, that he felt responsible?

What a load of ...
It's your responsibility to look after your children (and after yourself for that matter), OK, accidents are usually just waiting around the corner, but to blame Disney for this?

I get nuts every single time hearing the amount of times it's being said to stay put, keep arms and legs inside the boat, we can mouth them along in every single language by now.

I'm so glad that I was not the only one having this thought. For a moment I must admit I almost felt a little guilty when that was my first reaction.

And I must add that I am as relieved as any parent, or decent human being, that the child has made a full recovery but if I was that parent that would be my overwhelming emotion - heartfelt relief (and guilt) not, "What can I get out of Disney for this situation?"
