Gas prices

I drove from Sacramento to Los Angeles and back this weekend. I was surprised how un-competitive gas stations were that were next to each other. There were 5 gas stations at the same intersection, and prices ranged from $5.19 a gallon to $5.80 a gallon for regular. All are major national gasoline brands. The $5.19 station was a zoo, but people were still going to the other 4 stations.
Someone people are brand loyal, regardless of cost. And sometimes it isn’t worth the $1 in savings to have to wait to fill up.

Just yesterday afternoon I saw $4.43 at the cheapest place. Gas prices have gone up 20 cents in the last week here in NJ.

I drive an EV, but I pay attention to gas prices lately, and I've noticed they've gone up. And Diesel was $5.99....over $6.00 in some places.

On CNBC earlier an energy analyst said to expect record prices this summer. She said that there's not enough capacity in the refineries to meet demand right now. And that refineries are prioritizing diesel fuel right now because they're making more money....which will cause the price of gasoline and jet fuel higher. So....more fun to come!

Rising here too. last week I paid $4.35 and today drove by it was $4.50. That is about the highest I’ve seen, it did drop a little a month ago but of course it’s on the rise again.

Gas will rise $.29 on June 1st in Georgia, as that is when the temporary gas tax suspension expires. I don't think it actually dropped $.29 when the suspension took effect but I do expect to see an immediate $.29 increase on June 1st.

1.90 per litre here in Ontario, Canada. That is $5.55 per Gallon. This is at the Costco near me which is typically a little less than anywhere else.

$4.09 at Kroger. It’s been the same price for about three weeks. Last weekend I stopped in a Kroger nearby town and got gas for $3.89/gallon. No clue why ours is so much higher?
I'm wondering where you live that you think $4.09 is high :rotfl2:

Ours just went up over the weekend another $0.20-0.30 from $4.19. My car requires premium (I knew this going in) and I am now paying $5.09.

Gas on 95 was very high yesterday, think it was around $4.59 for regular and while I'm fairly immune to gas sticker shock it did get to me a bit to see the $20's go so fast in our smallest car. I suspect this will cool impulse & restaurant spending for summer vacations when people get to where they are going, mostly because it's so in your face as I was going about my business. It's tough to ignore & tougher to not react to, I sort of flinch now whereas I normally just let it roll off as BAU.

Lowest I have seen in the last month is $5.19. Check your owners manual, premium may be recommended, but I suspect it isn't required. Your car's computer adjusts for the octane of the fuel. Unless you drive a Ferrari or something exotic that less than 500 are sold in the U.S. a year, federal law requires them to run safely on regular.

Gas is ridiculous - same as a lot of you $4.50ish depending on day. Diesel is almost $7.

I just came here to rant that a FREAKING CAN OF SOUP costs $2.50 today at Tops. SERIOUSLY. Yes, all caps.

That little slip of price a few weeks ago came back hot and heavy. $5.49-$5.89 here in Sacramento. TVguy...Union 76 and Safeway has rewards.

I think you mean gas station profits will go down by $.29 a gallon on June 1st.

Diesel prices are going to force the country into a deep recession

Um no. The economy is exploding around here. The best thing we could have is letting some air out of the balloon. When you have people paying $80m an acre for residentially zoned property you have insanity.

gas stations make less money when the price goes up.
on average gas stations make between .15 to .25 per gallon gross regardless off price.

At 5 dollars per gallon a gas station will pat 17.5 cents per gallon in credit fees alone out of that 15 to 25 cents per gallon

When they stopped collecting gas taxes the stations just pocketed the extra money. They didn't lower prices.
