Disney's POLYNESIAN VILLAGE RESORT Information & Questions

Hello Poly people! I’m looking at booking for next August. We have stayed at POR and AoA but the Poly has been on my bucket list and now with the refurb and Moana theme (it’s our favorite movie), I’m sold. My problem is that there’s 5 of us, 2 adults and 3 kids ages 4,12,17. The standard room sleeps 5 but will we be too crammed in there? Last stay 2 years ago was at AoA in the family suite and it was great. But the rate for the Poly 1 bed suite is almost 3x the rate of the standard room and I just can’t justify the cost. Not to mention there’s no 1 beds available for next August anyway.
So my question is, do we just deal with the smaller space since we don’t spend a whole lot of time in the room anyway, or do I look at the Riviera which has a 1 bed suite for a couple hundred per night more....or do we do a split stay so we at least get a few nights of the experience at the Poly?
Has anyone slept 5 in the standard room? How was it?

Poly rooms are some of the largest on property. We’re a family of 4, not 5, so I can’t speak from experience, but if I’m going to put 5 in a room, somewhere like Poly doesn’t seem all that bad.

Having stayed in the 1BR suite, frankly I think you might even like a regular room better.

Could you get two rooms if you wanted to spread out a bit?

If the budget allows (and if it’s back by then), I would recommend thinking about Club Level. Having the lounge space as a second place to “be” with your varying ages can be really nice.

I haven't slept 5 in the standard room but we have slept 4 for a couple of week long stays. We were pretty comfy except the bathroom situation wasn't awesome.
I would say it very much depends on how well your family deals with that much closeness. If people don't generally get on each other's nerves and two of the kids are fine with sharing a bed I'd do it.

Unfortunately, my daughters are currently at an age where they need space from each other at least part of each day so we are getting two rooms at Pop instead of one at Poly.

I love the Poly though so I'd do it if I were you. The 4 year old isn't going to get any smaller.

Obviously these things are very subjective, but if someone isn’t familiar enough with the movie to know those are Maui’s tattoos, that just looks like a Polynesian themed mural and an extension of the similar art style you see in the common areas of the resort.

I've only seen Moana twice. My daughter grew up in the age of Frozen, otherwise, I'm sure I would have seen it 99 million times.

I had no idea about the tattoos if I'm being honest. I did not catch on to that, at all. Maybe I'm a bad Disney fan!

We are a family of 5 and do fine at the Poly. We have stayed at POR and that was too cramped for me, but the Poly has larger rooms and suits us well. A split with Poly and a 1BR would be nice too though. We love doing a split stay!
Thank you! I looked into doing a split stay with a 1 bed at Riviera and it’s $3k more...so I think we are just going to make do and enjoy the Poly

Thank you! I thought about getting 2 rooms but it’s just too much more. I think we will make do in the room and save the money for other fun stuff, hopefully some after hours events :)

Thank you! You’re right! My kids are spread out in ages so for the most part they get along, plus I think they will be too tired from the parks to argue. Lol

Is there any perk to staying re-opening day this July at the Polynesian? Or is it like they just open the doors and it's business as usual?

I have always stayed in a standard view room. A few years ago, Disney reclassified room categories at the Poly, and the building I like the most (Samoa) was changed from standard view to pool view. I then started staying in Rarotonga, which has a lot of standard view rooms. Honestly, at the Poly, I don't think there are any bad standard view rooms. Most of their standard rooms overlook gardens. Some, like in the case of Rarotonga, can see the parking lot in the distance, but there is a lot of lush greenery and the monorail track between the room and the parking lot. I think one of the DVC buildings overlooks the parking lot, but if you are staying on the resort side you wouldn't be staying in that building.

Now, if you were asking about standard view rooms at the Yacht or Beach Club I'd tell you to pay more to stay in a room with a better view, but that really isn't the case at the Poly.

just out of interest what are the standard view rooms there like

I'm still worrying about having booked a pool/marina view. worried it'll be overly noisy. we don't mind noise during the day but I'd like to be able to sleep.

We stayEd in Fiji building right on the marina two years ago. Didn’t hear a peep outside of fireworks

Just dropping by to do my happy dance and catch up on the news. 3 weeks until the Poly portion of our upcoming stay. During our last visit we had a bit of an ordeal trying to make it to Kona (we were staying at SSR that time with no car) and got this pixie dust dessert that I forgot to post until now. It totally made up for the delay! :wizard:
