DH is discussing a new job with the CEO of said company. He calls me to fill me in. Starts with "they give me a car." Um, nope, I use the heck out of the hertz points plus the 3x we earn booking the hertz for work every week. That brings me to his next statement..."he also mentioned a company credit card." Double nope. Absolutey not. All these perks are what makes it tolerable that he is out of town 2-4 nights a week and works crazy hours. Keep on searching hun, I can't handle all these changes. Plus, it is in TN. Triple nope.
Just present a travel expenses bill, like your job must pay $XXXXX more if they take away these perks
I bug DH occasionally because mostly he can't book anything himself for work travel, but I don't think he really realizes the potential of that. Actually maybe I should make sure and get him something new before he starts traveling for these new jobs, since he'll have extra expenses from that (at least he gets to expense gas/food? I guess...)
DH has to use the company card too and I hate it. He has a four night stay at a Hyatt in april and I have that new Hyatt card to meet MSR on.
DH doesn't even get a company card, their "travel coordinator" who is basically the owner's wife so they can collect another paycheck books all travel. It drives me batty because she's super difficult and bad at it plus it's just super unprofessional to me, she's always booking them stays through Hotels.com. That just doesn't seem right to me, if I want to do that for personal travel that's one thing, but I feel like work travel should at least be booked direct... Plus she always just picks the cheapest place if she can get away with it, even if it's icky/in a bad area/the farthest away from the job site.
Along the lines of dh's jobs, my dh text me the other day that he got a promotion...Went from IT Director to Senior IT Director. He did not get a raise this year so I got hopeful thinking maybe they gave him a raise. LOL, nope no raise, just more responsibility. Gotta love working for a nonprofit
He really needs to find a new job. Preferably in FL or TX!
Sounds like my job a bit
Last month they announced they are doing another buyout for those who are close to retirement. We weren't fully staffed before anyways, but they have cut 4 jobs over the last year from our department but upped the work. This time we have 3 more people eligible for the package, and I think they will cut 1-2 of those jobs if they take the package
Apparently at the end of the year, they are taking away all of the technical testing from the plants and only doing it at corporate - on one hand good in that they obviously don't want to staff what it actually takes to get everything done, on the other bad because I'm sure there will be more cuts or another package (which they originally told us there would be packages in 2018 and 2020).
I always talk to people and they talk like raises are normal and if you don't get one, something is wrong. I think a lot of people don't realize how many people never get raises. Cost of everything else goes up but my dh gets no more pay. That is exactly why I do what I do for vacation money. When I say we could never afford our trips otherwise, that is 1000% truth.
Ugh. I think you are spot on here. Here everyone gets a 'cost of living' raise in the spring. And then management can give extra on that as a reward for being a good employee (and if you're really bad, they can give less than COL). Though it seems like a low amount for here in Denver; I'm starting to wonder if they just do an average across the entire company no matter where in the US you are. That was what they told us they do with salaries in general; I must fall within a range of people in my position no matter if they are here in Denver or in NE/IA/GA. Makes me wanna be like, alright I'll just keep my current pay and go to the plant in NE, my salary will go a lot farther there - example, DH and I would have gotten something like this long ago and put in a new kitchen

Remember all my heartache over the stupid raise in the Fall that was supposed to put me 'where I should be' with regards to other employees, specifically the fact that I was making less than our new person? This spring raise is supposed to be the other part of that basically to increase the gap. We get evaluated at the end of the year and scored 1-3, then use that as justifications for raises. Apparently they make you jump through hoops to score someone a 3. My boss has told me that I am the only one who was scored a 3, thanks to all my hard work, and that should help get me more. I am interested but also scared to see what this 'more' is. Apparently my old dept manager who is no longer with us would not score anyone as a 3 because she did not want to go through the work of justifying that to the people above her, so everyone was a 2 and got COL plus maybe a little extra (like me) and then gave a bunch to the guy that she had a uh, suspicious relationship with, being as they were both married... I'm sure she also went through the legwork to score him a 3. My old boss (who also took the package last year) had worked here for 28 years and moved up to a supervisor role, college degree, etc... she was making $6 or $8 less per hour than this guy, who had been here 4 years, no education after high school, no responsibility, and actually had a guy below him who did all the work while this guy just sat around in his office and threw temper tantrums. He also chased out one of the best employees in the department.
Anyways, I just have this feeling they'll be like Your raise is X.X%! like they're giving me the world, they worked so hard to give me that after going through the work of scoring me a 3... and I will be like, that's less or the same as what I've gotten in the past...
Dh told me today we put away 48% in savings/retirement.
That's awesome! DH and I are having a meeting this weekend about savings for this year - now that he's sold his big jobs, he can make an educated guess at what his commission will be, so we can plan for taxes and such. Today I'm going to run some numbers on what our tax bill could look like with various amounts going to 401k... plus what that does to his regular pay. His job is such a pain to figure this for because his base pay is spread over 26 paychecks, but commissions are an additional check once a month... when the customer has paid out... so the IRS calculator isn't the best as I can't account for that part.
