I always talk to people and they talk like raises are normal and if you don't get one, something is wrong. I think a lot of people don't realize how many people never get raises. Cost of everything else goes up but my dh gets no more pay. That is exactly why I do what I do for vacation money. When I say we could never afford our trips otherwise, that is 1000% truth.
I think it depends on your job/industry/etc.

I’ll be completely honest...in my line of work, if I didn’t get at least a 3% raise I’d be finding a new job within a week. I don’t want to be insensitive to others in a different situation but people in commercial banking are regularly moving from bank to bank for 10-15% more. It’s like I’m already moving backwards by being loyal (but my work/life situation can’t be beat so I’m not really looking to make a move unless they give me a reason to).

I think I need to be a lot more grateful of where Dh is as a guy in his mid twenties. With me having only a part time job he really does bring home the bacon and he works really hard. He’s gotten a raise every year since he’s been with this company. Even though he doesn’t always like his team, his company is actually pretty beneficial. They paid for his masters in full.

Dh always thanks me though for the travel stuff and that makes me feel good. He knows I have the extra time to do it but him acknowledging it makes me smile. Am I turning into a sappy old lady.....?

I would just say things were REALLY good for my dh's career...until they weren't...He started out right out of college making 40k back in 1996. That was a lot of money coming out of college! And his salary just exploded over the next several years as IT was on FIRE. As IT got saturated and the market took a tumble, things weren't so good. We were not prepared for that rainy day so I would really encourage you to do as Joseph did in the Old Testament...store up in the years of plenty because you will need to live off that in the years of lean...If they don't come, great, you have a nice nest egg.

My dh is super appreciative as well of the travel hacking I do :D

I love a little bible lesson in our CC thread tonight :)

Goodness, I wish this were how it was for my dh but that is so not his reality!

Dh told me today we put away 48% in savings/retirement.

Kind of :offtopic: but I’m working on taxes. I have a rental property, which never makes a profit. I charge $2500in rent. Taxes and insurance insurance are about $2500. This year I put a new roof on the house for $3600. Do I really need to send a 1099 to the contractor? For those of you who have one or two properties, is this necessary? TurboTax thinks so...
I have a rental property and did a roof last year. I didn’t send to contractor anything. I do taxes with tax act.

Said differently...perhaps I should acknowledge that I am blessed and fortunate to be in an insanely good job.

And I’m surrounded by people who don’t realize how good we have it when they constantly make moves for another $10k or more rather than showing a small amount of loyalty.

General question...got Biz Plat in November and bonus first of January. Given fears of pop up you all think I should keep pushing through with Amex? I have started to have fear that despite my best efforts of using all cards as much as possible I will have a pop up in my future. I really want the BBP. I want the Plat too but am okay without that since it will take a personal spot and I want the Chase biz cards in next 6 months.

You’ve read what I’ve been going through with Amex. At this point, I don’t know if I’m the victim of a no-pop-up-denial or the 1/31-glitch. Even if I have landed on Amex’s naughty list, the BBP is still on my radar for sometime later this year.

If I get the pop up when I do go for the BBP (or denied the bonus even without a pop up), it’s no big loss because the SUB is only 10k MR. I plan to self refer to the BBP from my BGR for a 20k MR referral bonus, so even if I lose out on 10k, I’ll be pocketing 20k for a keeper 2x MR on “everything else” card.

Your roadmap kind of looks like mine for the rest of the year. Once I get back under 5/24 in March, my focus will be on Chase’s business cards, so I can’t apply for any personal cards as long as I’m looking at the United Biz, CIP #2, and the CIU, then possibly a MDD? That means definitely no churning the Platinum flavors (still have the 60k offers on the Charles Schwab, and hey maybe even the Ameriprise and Morgan Stanley Plats) this year.

I’m keeping my three SPG cards for another year, keeping my Gold indefinitely, planning to keep my personal Plat after fishing for a retention offer, planning to cancel my Biz Green and eventually BGR, and debating whether to keep my Biz Plat and Hilton Biz for another year. The BBP should make for a low risk test case whether I’m on the naughty list or not for subsequent cards, especially those with big bonuses that I don’t want to blow the once per lifetime rule on.

If you want to test whether you’re on Amex’s naughty list at any time, you could always go for the BBP because the worst you could do is lose out on a small 10k MR SUB, and get a 15k or 20k MR referral bonus (you have the BGR, right?).

You have the Biz Plat until November or December of this year. You want a personal Platinum, but not until you’ve gotten some Chase biz cards. Well, the Biz Plat gives you a lot of the benefits of the personal Plat anyway, so you don’t really need to get another Plat until you’re about to cancel the Biz Plat. (Although if you don’t want the mark of canceling the Biz Plat potentially counting against your Platinum app or bonus, you may want to push up your personal Plat application so that you hit your MSR and get the SUB before you have to cancel the Biz Plat.)

I think between avoiding personal cards to stay under 5/24 to get Chase biz cards, the limited amount of worthwhile Amex biz cards (since you already have the Biz Plat and BGR? What about the Biz Green? Co-brands?), and Amex’s once per lifetime rule, that leaves you with applying for the BBP and a lot of time away from Amex that maybe your history will cool off a bit.

Legit business, tried because I'm legit curious. I got to the part where it wants my email address. I put in my business email. It came back that it recognizes me and emailed me my username. I was a little puzzled and then remembered the super old ING-now-Cap360-or-something account that I have (not associated with my business email). I tried that login info and it didn't work. I never received any emails at any addresses I checked, it's now been hours. So, I got nowhere.

Help me out. What is MDD?

@wendow I just wanted to say that I can relate to what you're talking about. Just change the downward date a few years earlier to the dot com bust in 2001. It's taken us years to recover from that one and the future's not really looking all that bright. DH chose a "safe" spot to provide stability for DD through HS and college, and now even that isn't looking all too stable. It's a tough world out there.

So you know exactly what I am talking about and why this 'hobby' means so much to our families!

I do. We've been traveling, but far less than I'd like. That's why this group means so much to me. The idea that it took us less than a year to not only replenish but double the MRs we used to fly to Europe last summer is still hard for me to believe. Now I just have to get the points and funds to pay for the rest of the trip. ;)

DH just yells "CONVOY" these days. He wasn't happy when it changed over on his online account yesterday. Such a dumb name.

I have the WOH card. I'm not sure what info you're looking for. I'm still in the MSR stage and haven't redeemed any points. I didn't have a Hyatt acct. before so they issued me one when I got the card and it was linked to my account.

Nice!!! Enjoy!

DH is looking at TVs, but sadly the one he wants went up $50 last week. I guess it's so they can put it on sale soon? Can you tell me what AO is? I'm hoping he can use that $100 Dell credit for this purchase.

sorry, i didnt get back to u in time for u to use the 14% at ebates. AO is Amex Offer.
there is a Dell Amex Offer that is spend up to $1500 get 10% back.

Trying to stay calm but didn't get paid today (somehow I have two paychecks which are cancelling each other out and our payroll person is out with the flu) and my Amex rose gold payment was already made today which may overdraw my account. Going to put cash in but not sure that will be fast enough.

Then I learned yesterday my ex didn't have insurance coverage the one month dd got her $510 physical (included second dose of gardasil). He offered to pay but I told him it was fine. Just completely avoidable. Plus we were out of the country in August and the kids had no insurance. Then I woke up in the middle of the night freaking out about the aca tax but I think I'm fine there. It was a short lapse. I think.
