I love credit cards so much!

If you are under 5/24 does it count towards 5/24? I got this card in the summer and the CIP in September. Would that make me 1/5 or 2/5?

Thanks so much :)

with hyatt card, u should be at 1/24. With CIP, u should still be at 1/24. We still encourage you to add CIP to the shutdown count though as we believe in house, they can see all biz cards/personal cards. but like what @SouthFayetteFan has mentioned earlier, shutdowns are getting rarer than it usually is. would still be cautious though.

When using CC for rewards points, do I need to wait for the transaction to post before making payment? do I need to wait for the end of the billing cycle? I want to use my cards for everyday purchases to earn points but I don't want to make a payment too early so that I don't get points. Thanks

I pay the charges that post daily to avoid big bills at the end of the month.

I have two boys, 10 and 7, who are completely oblivious to ANY brand name, including UA. I think I am very, very glad!! Kohl's does seem to keep excluding more and more from using coupons.
Some of those brands I avoid for ethical reasons so I’m glad my DS doesn’t notice brands either. I pick out most of his clothes within his parameters: no jeans, prefers T-shirt’s and sports jerseys. That’s all. Lol.

ETA: I believe they are excluded based on UA (and Nike) request. I think they can only put the clothing on sale when those brands say so with no additional discounts.
Yes, it is Nike and UnderArmour driving those restrictions. They are excluded at most stores.

Thank you. I forgot the CIP is under my business name (I do my business banking with the account that is tied to the CIP). So I'm not sure, taking the Hyatt card out of the equation, if I'd even be at 1/5.

Since I missed the CSP / CSR double dip earlier this year, can I apply for the CSP through my business? I got the CSR in October, 2016 so I definitely can't apply for the CSP personally for 2 more years.

I do plan on getting the AmEx Pink because pink is my favorite color and I can use the MR. That will be my next card. Waiting for a few more days to triple dip on the airline credit!

CSP/CSR is a personal card. i dont think u can apply for it with an EIN.

The CSP is a personal card so you can’t apply using a business name and EIN.....you could apply for the other Chase business cards...CIC or CIU

Can you apply for the CSP through your business? No, because the CSP is a personal card.

However, you could possibly apply for another CIP under your personal SSN. So if your CIP #1 is under your business name and EIN, you could apply for CIP #2 under your name (first and last), as a sole proprietor, with only your SSN as the Tax ID number. You could even refer yourself from CIP #1 for CIP #2 for an extra 20k UR bonus.

Lucky lady!! My friend did try this morning - had 7 tickets selected in row V, and then she lost em cause the system timed out. Ugh.

Oh noooos! That is awful, I would be so crushed  The last time I got notification I'd get a code, I couldn't get decent wifi since I was on a plane. While I was not happy about that, the blow was somewhat cushioned by flying Singapore Suites and another glass of Krug.

I had to teach a CPR class this morning so couldn't try for the tickets. I emailed DH my code and the link, he signed in to my account and was able to get us tickets. He got 4 tickets for us and another couple we travel with fairly often in front/center mezzanine row A. I am so stoked! After that purchase he is now done with making MSR spend on his Amex rose/gold card.

Congrats! I asked DD if she wanted me to get tickets (I had the text this am) and she said, "it's not going anywhere" which was pretty sweet of her since she knows I hate plays and especially musicals.:duck: I suspect some day a charge will come up on my credit card when she's away at school and she will have just gone on a whim! Win, win for both of us:teeth:

In other news, I'd really wanted to try Aer Lingus business class for no good reason at all (except they have green seats :P) :shamrock:. So next year after the dis podcast London/Paris/DLP ABD I'm flying to Dublin for a night, then took advantage of the Amex transfer to Avios--for 45,000 MRs I'm in business from DUB-MCO! Whoo hoo! Between spending a night in Dublin and Orlando it will take me 3 days to get home but (to me) well worth it. Poor DH has to go back to work so he's just doing Delta, of course. Now I'm torn between using United Miles to fly Swiss Air from CDG--DUB or just pay $125. This is why I love MRs!

Thanks! No worries, I feel the same way about sports :duck: My first thought is always, "please don't make me go." DH insisted I go to a hockey game once. I watched for about 15 minutes and then opened my purse, pulled out a book and spent the rest of the game reading. Needless to say, I've never been to another sporting event again.

IMO green seats is a perfectly enough good reason to fly Aer Lingus :upsidedow Please make sure to tell us what you think of their business class product! Never flown Aer Lingus but game to give them a whirl. I'm finding I like my Amex MRs a lot more too!

Are you going to be in NYC when
Mickey: The True Original Exhibition
is running, 11/8/18 through 2/10/19?

Well, I wasn't planning to, but that can change. Thanks for the heads up! We'll see what DH thinks.

This is one benefit to being in a same-sex marriage; I can pretend to be DW on the phone and the reps are none the wiser. Although I did almost flub her SSN when trying to activate her Barclays AA card the other day. I was unexpectedly transferred to a real person, which caught me totally off guard! :rotfl:

Nice! Have you seen it in NY before?

Definitely a nice benefit! DH's real name is used for both men and women in Vietnam. Plus most non Vietnamese people can't make heads or tails of it anyhow. So, if they haven't done the voice matching thing, I can pretend to be him too and get away with it. This comes in handy with many situations besides credit cards. Hotel reservations, dining reservations etc. LOL

No, I haven't seen it in NY yet. So far, San Fran and DC and will see it here in Ft. Lauderdale a few times next month. I've been doing the digital lottery for NY with no success and trying for a code whenever they release a new batch. So, I'm very excited to see it in NY.

I live pretty close to NYC so I am going. If anyone else is and has the Disney Visa, you get free prints in the gift shop:

Oh thanks for the head sup on that! If we do make it that way for the exhibition, I'll be sure to bring the Disney Visa.

Ah, ok. I haven't looked at domestic first, so that's probably why I wasn't seeing the value. Most of our domestic tickets are cross-country for DD who is perfectly happy with a coach seat. I'm getting to the point where it's really uncomfortable (guess I'm getting old), so I'll be looking into this. Thanks for this list - I copied it and I'll have to keep checking on all the flights we book. I'd love it if it would pay for itself and become a keeper card.

Awesome! We are going to be in NYC next year and I didn't even think about trying for this. Congrats! :)

Anytime. I was never expecting it to be a keeper card which is why I hadn't kept it. It took me wanting to use a benefit I didn't have anymore several times. I got used to having my GoGo wifi passes for flights and not paying for them. I got used to using the Amex travel portal to find better pricing and bang for my points on domestic first. After that, I wen't back and added up the value, Amex offers I used and realized the fee wound up not mattering after all was said and done.

Thanks! I am super excited!

Tagging @KPK02090, who I recall was looking for ways to use MRs to fly to Ireland.
Wow! You do have an amazing memory. Or the spreadsheets are very real.
Thanks for this. I need to start looking into the MR side of things soon.

But before that I’m going for the SW biz. I did the CSR/CSP double dip at the end of August. I got the CSR bonus and the CSP bonus is pending. I’m thinking late November/early December for the SW biz application?
(I also have a CIP from May 2018.)
Does that sound reasonable?

Quick n00b question about airline miles: If I book a flight on a OneWorld airline, can I choose to earn miles in any OneWorld program on that flight? Or can I only earn miles in that specific airline's program? I'm debating whether to book my flight to London on BA or AA. It's the same flight, so I don't think it matters as far as in-flight experience, but I'd rather earn AA miles since I will already have a stash of those from the Barclay's CC bonus.

I really don’t think I can handle the cancelling/product change calls. After going back and forth for probably over a year I decide to product change DH’s CSR to a Freedom. No reason for us both to have one blah blah blah. Since we both had today off I call. Figure no reason to wait as he will put zero spend on it as a CSR between now and the end of the year, we don’t have any travel planned to book that could use the credit, if we get another Freedom now and use this quarter it will be easily maxed out. We are just focusing on Amex for everything now other than Costco. Calling was actually not painful at all as it was on speaker and he got on and said “I’m here...just trying to cook dinner.” You know how Chase has that super annoying music? We were also not on hold long so that was kept at a minimum.

Maybe the customer service representative sensed our exasperation and just asked if he gave permission for me to handle it. No retention offer “it is a card that pays for itself.” Of course despite my certainty in cancelling I start to waffle. Then “the Freedom has foreign transaction fees.” I waffle some more. “You can’t get a sign up bonus on the Freedom now.” I about cave. I held strong though. Of course at the end she says “no you might have to pay your annual fee and then it should be refunded later.” If it hadn’t already been a done deal I probably would have totally said “never mind we will just keep it.” At any rate hoping I didn’t make a mistake!

Of course I just said all this to my sweet P2 and he is like “whatever tell me what to use” and I trust you as you no more about credit cards than anyone I know. His only caveat is he only wants one visa and one Amex. I can work with that for now...except when I get him an Amex personal gold that seems like such a keeper and replacement for the CSR and dining out he might need to have 3. We will deal with that later though...

You can usually earn AA miles in one world flights but if it’s the same flight I would just book it directly through American if the price is the same.

LOL! I enjoy football and hockey but can't tell you how many books I read when we were season ticket holders for our AA baseball team (hint: a lot!).

I was really struggling with either flying LOT to ORD/EWR or finagling AerLingus. I'll definitely report back on my experience. Between BA first at Christmas, United Polaris over spring break and Austrian Air this summer I'm having fun branching out from my usual Delta. We'll see how they compare :)

Regarding the AMEX "preferred airline" thing, I know it can be reset in January, but is there a date by which we have to decide? Or can I wait until I know which airline I'll likely be flying in 2019?

You can wait as long as you want.
