I love credit cards so much!

I'd love to hear what makes it so valuable to you. We were looking at the benefits, and didn't see many since we already have personal Plat cards. Is it the points back if we book through AMEX? If so, do you get a better rate than moving MRs to FF accounts? In my limited experience we have done much, much better by moving points so I wasn't thinking that this would be a good way to book flights but I'm sure I'm overlooking something. Since the card was approved today I'd love your insight.

Generally speaking, yes I get more value transferring to airlines, especially for international first class. However, I have found that when we are flying domestic first class, I get a better value paying with MR points and getting the 35% points back. We managed to get status with AA doing this. Several times this year, I wanted to kick myself for not having the business Plat card. In addition, the insider pricing on Amex for airfare is often more favorable than what I see on the airlines website or through Expedia etc. The insider fares, 35% points back and airline credit and 10 GoGo WiFi passes pretty much cover the fee for me.

Chase Shutdown reports have slowed significantly so perhaps they've turned their attention elsewhere. I can still understand why someone in your position wouldn't want to poke the bear though!!

That’s good to know. :-)

Nothing about business or anything, it's basically a tech support call. They go through security to make sure it's you and send you the code to finish setting it up. Took me 20-30 minutes, partly because I got disconnected, but otherwise straight forward. Hubby's was shorter, maybe 10-15 minutes.

I don't think it's meant to be standard, I think they have a glitch between the application and the online site. But for the last 5-6 months this seems to be the norm.
This. Hubby just had to do it. No questions about business and disconnected once also!! But they finally got him set up

We got Hamilton tickets for New York!!!! That is all, carry on :D

Congrats! I asked DD if she wanted me to get tickets (I had the text this am) and she said, "it's not going anywhere" which was pretty sweet of her since she knows I hate plays and especially musicals.:duck: I suspect some day a charge will come up on my credit card when she's away at school and she will have just gone on a whim! Win, win for both of us:teeth:

In other news, I'd really wanted to try Aer Lingus business class for no good reason at all (except they have green seats :P) :shamrock:. So next year after the dis podcast London/Paris/DLP ABD I'm flying to Dublin for a night, then took advantage of the Amex transfer to Avios--for 45,000 MRs I'm in business from DUB-MCO! Whoo hoo! Between spending a night in Dublin and Orlando it will take me 3 days to get home but (to me) well worth it. Poor DH has to go back to work so he's just doing Delta, of course. Now I'm torn between using United Miles to fly Swiss Air from CDG--DUB or just pay $125. This is why I love MRs!

When using CC for rewards points, do I need to wait for the transaction to post before making payment? do I need to wait for the end of the billing cycle? I want to use my cards for everyday purchases to earn points but I don't want to make a payment too early so that I don't get points. Thanks

....and DH has to call in to chase line to setup his SWA biz card b/c they need to send a verify code which can only be gotten by calling....(!??!) this is a pain. I'll have to make him call later (unwilling P2)
This is one benefit to being in a same-sex marriage; I can pretend to be DW on the phone and the reps are none the wiser. Although I did almost flub her SSN when trying to activate her Barclays AA card the other day. I was unexpectedly transferred to a real person, which caught me totally off guard! :rotfl:

Nice! Have you seen it in NY before?

You don’t need to wait until the end of the billing cycle to make a payment....I usually make a payment once or twice a month on my Chase cards

Tagging @KPK02090, who I recall was looking for ways to use MRs to fly to Ireland.

You earn points for purchases even if you pay a charge or statement early. If you pay a charge before the transaction posts, then your statement will show a credit balance that will zero out when the transaction posts. You still earn points on that transaction, which points will go pending and post according to the rules of each issuer, usually upon statement close or sometime later.

I keep it because it is old and it gets me extra discounts on resort bookings on occasion.

I do the same. I don't see us getting rid of it anytime soon since it's free and sometimes saves us money.

Was that 100K MR for $10K spend? It's good to hear that calling in still works. I'm about to attempt to strong-arm my DW into calling.

Yes it was. The public offer is terrible - fewer MRs for double the spend IIRC. I'm pretty excited about the extra 100K MRs. :)

Ah, ok. I haven't looked at domestic first, so that's probably why I wasn't seeing the value. Most of our domestic tickets are cross-country for DD who is perfectly happy with a coach seat. I'm getting to the point where it's really uncomfortable (guess I'm getting old), so I'll be looking into this. Thanks for this list - I copied it and I'll have to keep checking on all the flights we book. I'd love it if it would pay for itself and become a keeper card.

Awesome! We are going to be in NYC next year and I didn't even think about trying for this. Congrats! :)

Are you going to be in NYC when
Mickey: The True Original Exhibition
is running, 11/8/18 through 2/10/19?

Ack! That looks so cool, but will end a few months before I get to NY. If it wasn't closing I would definitely want to check it out.
