Warning- daily safety and security room check

My next solo visit will be off-site at Wyndham Bonnet Creek in a large part because of this issue. I do think next time I'll insist on calling the front desk before I let anyone into my room.

Call security directly if you can.

I love the Wyndham Bonnet creek, over a dozen stays there in all sizes of units and different buildings. I am especially fond of the 1 bedroom presidential units. Perfect for solo trip. The lazy rivers are wonderful.

So close to the studios, Boardwalk, etc.

This is just a thought but shouldn't security have a name of who is on the reservation if they are doing room checks. It would be as simple as requesting security identify the last name before undoing the latch then.

I sent an individual email to everyone on the list you posted around 12:30pm today. I decided not to CC everyone because I thought it had a better chance of being overlooked. Kind of like “I’ll let the next guy deal with it” sort of thing. LOL I did not expect to hear back from anyone today, except perhaps in the form of a form letter thanking me for contacting them.

Imagine my surprise when I got a call just two hours later from Emma. She said she was calling from the executive office of George Kalogridis.

I was trying to write down everything she told me so I will do the best I can with what I caught and what I remember. She was a fast talker! Lol

She thanked me for writing to him and told me that he reads his email and wanted his office to reach out to me to address my concerns. She assured me that they take the security of all of their guests very seriously.

When I asked her a question, she did put me on hold to clarify that she was giving me the most up to date and correct information because she said the policy is different for DVC members.

She said that if you opt out of Mousekeeping for your stay, or even one day, you will get the security checks for those days.

Mousekeeping counts as a check.

If you are uncomfortable with random checks, she said there is a number on the “Room Occupied” sign to call and schedule a time for your check. She said this is a recent change and if the information or number isn’t on your card yet to contact resort management.

She said that security will knock three times before entering a room.

She stressed the fact that they understand the point of view of a solo or woman traveling alone with children. She said if you are not comfortable, for whatever reason, opening your door, call security and they will come to check it out.

She also said they are constantly looking for ways to make this policy better for their guests.

I really appreciated that she took the time to call me on a Sunday to address my concerns.

Clarification on this would be nice. It could mean, 'knock knock knock open'; or it could mean 'knock knock, pause, knock knock, pause, knock knock, pause...open'.

I understood her to mean knock, knock, pause, knock, knock, pause, knock, knock, pause...open.

Wait, what? Is this true? This could make all the difference in the world for those with nap concerns, etc.

Thanks! Some of the experience posts strongly imply a "knock and enter" process. Your interpretation seems the most likely - policy, if not actual practice.

What I've always seen as recently as 3 weeks ago at Pop is: Knock Knock Knock "identify", Knock Knock Knock "identify", Knock Knock Knock "identify" - open door slightly "identify" - Enter room.

I was sitting at the pool and I heard Housekeeping doing that at each room on an entire floor.

Housekeeping, yes. Security, no. Not in my experience anyways. They never identified themselves til I answered the door. I don’t think they even identified themselves as security when they knocked and walked in on us. It was more like a whoops, sorry. I’ll come back later.

THANK YOU for taking the time to post your conversation.:goodvibes I will look for the number on the "Room Occupied" Sign to schedule a check. This should help guest a lot.. interested to hear if this is in fact working.:scratchin ::yes::

It’s my first solo trip to Disney next year.

What would people say is the best way to handle these checks from a female solo traveller perspective? I am staying at WL and I don’t think this is a resort you can opt out of mousekeeping (think that’s just value and moderate?). In this case will I not get security checks?

According to the post by Daisyluv, above, yesterday, it was reported that there is a new procedure on the Room Occupied Sign for a number to call to "schedule" a security check. Secondly, I would ask the front desk at WL for the number to contact for Security, if you have any questions about the identify of the person knocking requesting a security check. As many others have posted, don't call the Front Desk for your room thinking you are connected to Front Desk, you are not. Enjoy your trip; maybe all of these "kinks" will be worked out by next year:scratchin!:goodvibes

Please see the post from DaisyLuv above. It appears that the policy now allows guests to call and schedule room visits using a phone number printed on the RO card. I am gratedful to DisneyLuv for sharing in detail the info she was able to obtain on the phone call she received after sending her email earlier in the day yesterday.

I would urge you to write and report that. She said they are always happy to hear from their guests and if people don't report it then nothing will be done to correct it. There is a post a couple pages back with the emails of the executives.

My email specifically addressed my concerns for the solo and woman alone with children issue.

She said that DVC has different rules and didn't go into them since that doesn't apply to me.

She said that Mousekeeping would count as a security check and you shouldn't be bothered by a knock on your door.
