Pop Century Room Renovations

Here is some info that some may find useful.
I stayed at POP over the weekend and was in building 4 #4431. Play Dough building.

Here is the good and bad in my opinion,

I really liked the room overall starting with the bathroom, the main improvement that I liked was they finally made the toilets ADA compliant and they are now 2 to 3 inches higher…without going into detail this is a great plus.
They also have a motion activated and variable speed exhaust fan, so you need to keep moving for it to stay on on…it shut off while I was in the walk in shower.
All fixtures are ‘LOW FLOW” so don’t expect a shower massage.
In the sink area there is a built in night light in the wall receptacle for the extending mirror, nice to not have to turn on big light and plenty enough for late night bathroom visits.
The TV’s are now 55 inch and while still not being able to adjust any settings they come with ambient light sensor and dim in low light… so it won’t seem like it’s as bright as a super nova when trying to watch at night with the lights off.
A couple other things, the A/C units are new so no more funky smells, and the mini fridge is very quiet unlike some I’ve had before.

Now the bad, mainly the floors for a few reasons.
I’m not sure when this unit was re done but the “wooden like” floor was filthy, I was in the room bare foot for 10 minutes and my feet looked like I had been in a dirt playground. I called to ask if they had mopped the floors and was told yes..they asked me if the tiles were clean which they were, but I told them the floor was very dirty and they acted very surprised. I’m pretty sure this unit’s floor was not cleaned properly after the refurb because it was just as filthy under the bed and being on the top floor, where would that much dirt and dust come from? The dirt and filth will get in your bed , shoes, etc….
Also the night stands were very small, even with the smaller phone on it, my coffee cup just barely fit…this is were they got some of the room for the wider beds.
As far as the mattress and the flat smooth wooden frame..the mattress is smaller than the frame so it slides side to side and backwards to the wall…you could roll up a towel or 2 and place them between the wall and mattress to keep it even at foot but it will still slide sideways. I liked the comfort of both the mattress and pillows and slept well until….6 am.
And as others have speculated …I was painfully aware of the screaming baby and toddlers banging things on the floor at 6 am till about 10 am in the room next to me. The noise is easily carried to neighboring rooms with out the sound absorbing carpet.. you’ve been warned.

I asked for a different room but they were full, so I just checked out and went to the Coronado..no refurb ,no noise.

I have a few more trips planned this year at POP, after being in the room I really would prefer these over the older ones and like the combination use with AOA..just hope I have quieter neighbors and I might bring a compact swiffer. I’m thinking they only sweep right now on room turnovers, I saw some sort of spill that a mopping would have taken care of…so I wiped it up easily with a wet wash cloth…that’s when I really knew that hadn’t mopped..or maybe not even have mops or swiffers ???
I normally ask for a VIP cleaning on the older rooms but I wanted to see what I would get , I will ask for it on my next visits.

Overall I’m sure things would have been better if I had been staying longer and they were not completely full.

The preceding was just my experience for 1 night.. but I was back and forth to POP and the parks for almost 24 hours…your mileage may vary.

So they blocked the door and part of the mattress is under the bed.

What I also noticed was the large percentage of the mattress the pillow is covering up. I looked up Twin Air Mattress, Youth Air Mattress and Pillow measurements. Going by those this looks more like a youth mattress or perhaps a shorter than normal twin sized mattress. This looks like it could work for a smaller child/adult, but based on where that pillow sits ... if it were me at 5'4" - my feet would be hanging off.

Wish I had done actual measurements here, just from my visual of the space after several trips I don't see how a regular measurement twin would fit, even this way. There is so little floor space now. Hoping more pictures with measurements come up.

It says on the FB post that it's a twin mattress. And the FB poster also indicated in the comments on that picture that it was a standard twin mattress that she bought at Walmart. I think it's just a combination of the angle of the mattress as well as the angle of the photo that's messing with the perspective and making it look shorter. I remember someone else (months ago) commenting that they were able to put a twin mattress in that area of the room and that it fit as long as you didn't mind blocking the door and having a tiny part of the mattress under the queen bed. I can't remember if that was on this board or a different one.

Yes I saw all that. I have several air mattresses, purchased as standard sizes but they ended up being smaller. Not sure how a side shot would change how the pillow looks in regards to how much it covers ....

But given how much convo we have had on this ... I have not seen any first hand reports or photos. Just my opinion after having stayed in room many times, but thinking that might be because it’s not very workable with an adult length mattress.

I’m still hoping for more reports or next time I’ll just take one and test.

I’m not sure if we had loud neighbors or not but dh and I ended up using our headphones because my SIL was snoring lol. Listening to a box fan on YouTube was the absolute best thing I have ever done. Every single night I used that I slept through the night completely without waking up.

Looking forward to our stay here in August. Hoping to request and get a 4th floor room. I bit concerned about noise from other rooms. We last stayed here in 2012 and I found I heard a lot of noise from the rooms around us... mostly water running and toilets flushing but we did have loud neighbors for our last couple of days.

That building reopened between March 25 and April 19 (per post # 2). So, less than seven weeks.
I asked for a different room but they were full, so I just checked out and went to the Coronado..no refurb ,no noise.
But construction of an entire new hotel.

I guess I never thought that one standard twin size air mattress might be smaller than another twin size mattress. We have 6 twin-size air mattress from 3 different manufacturers (Coleman, Beauty Rest, and Intex). Four of them are standard height and 2 of them are elevated. On numerous occasions we've had them all blown up and lined up next to each other (for sleepovers) and they're all the same length. If they're different lengths, it's not enough to be noticeable even when next to a different brand mattress. And a standard twin-size sheet fits each one of them (though I know one of the brands is slightly narrower than the others but only by about an inch or so). I didn't realize that some brands might be less than 75" long even though they're sold as a twin-size mattress. I will say that I always think they look smaller than a standard twin (non-air) mattress when I have them all made up with pillows and blankets -- but since the air mattresses use the same sheets as our regular twin beds *and* I've seen my son's 6' tall friends fit on them without their feet hanging off the end, I know it's an optical illusion that makes them look "short". I'm still thinking that's what is happening with the one in the picture.

When I look at that picture, it looks like the pillow is covering about 25% of the length of the mattress. A standard pillow is 20" and a twin size mattress is 75" long. So to me (and this is just my opinion based on what I'm interpreting in that picture), I have no doubt that's a standard twin-size mattress (even though I still think the perspective is somewhat skewed in that picture due to the angles of the furniture/walls and poor lighting/shadows -- the end of the mattress with the pillow looks much "wider" than the foot of the mattress even when taking in to account the corner of the mattress is under the bed). I agree that it would be good to know the dimensions of that particular mattress so people who need that option make sure to have an appropriate size mattress since space is clearly tight. But unless the person that took the picture posts the actual dimensions of that particular mattress, I guess there's no way to know for sure. All I know is, while we've used an air mattress in a non-refurbished room, I wouldn't use a twin air mattress in that space in the new rooms. But I'm glad that the option is available for those who need it.

We spent 5 nights at Pop last week and it was wonderful! I did post on our first morning bus day about needing Uner info because the Epcot bus took so long. I'm happy to report that was a one day fluke. Every other day the busses were great. Small waits. And on the mornings we had to wait for a second bus, the bus was waiting in the wings! And now for the room report:

In refurbished room 9317. Room was 2 queens, non connecting with a tub. We loved it! Beds we're comfortable (& pillows were good), including the Murphy that my sister slept on. Murphy was easy to put up & down. While down (& only down for sleep) it was a little cramped but did not run into it. We used a sound machine at night so didn't hear anyone and we weren't there during the day. I loved the sliding door for the bathroom. I woke up before everyone else every day and they didn't hear me getting ready. I also surprisingly liked the big bottles in the shower. Though I'm sad I had none to take home, this curly haired girl had plenty of conditioner. I also didn't find the floors to be that dirty. We weren't in our rooms a lot but I'm always barefoot. Mousekeeping didn't leave new cups for our first 2 days but I left a note on our third and had them. Our room was a fast walk to transportation through the parking lot and not that bad to the main building. We didn't go there often but it wasn't bad. All in all I really liked it. Much more than I thought. In fact, I was thinking about switching out family summer trip to 2 Pop rooms over 1 Lion King suite.

Here is a picture of what the pool noodles looked like on the bed. As I said it didn't completely cover the part that sticks out but it was eye catching enough to stop us from walking into it. My bruise from the couple of times we didn't have them on is almost faded 2 weeks later.
Wow, that looks terrible! (the bed does.) I better think hard about the pool noodles. I have a 2 year old. Thanks so much for the tip!

I know many people love the laminate floor, but I hate it!! I had the same experience that you did. My feet were filthy just from walking from the bathroom to the bed. I would rather have new carpet than the nasty laminate floor!!

What are your guys' thoughts on this. We have a trip planned Aug 27th. Standard pool view and want 50s.. right now 50s are being worked on.. so I did some math. and the way I figure it out the renovations will be completed by August. By completed I mean available rooms will all be new as bldg 2 will be closed. I figures this by looking at past timelines ( post 2). if you base this by last year (bld 9 and 7). Building 3 should be done beginning of June. and Building 1 end of July.

This means part of Bldg 2 are closed in July already and rest for August. So basically. August last month of Buidling 2 which means These are closed for use! Do you guys see this too?

Actually carpet is much nastier and dirtier, You just dont SEE it.. Hard floors are more hygenic. My White socks were also dirty on Disney/any Hotel carpet. Plus add in the humdity. Gross.
I agree! I can't do anything about dirty carpets but I can take a damp cloth and clean a laminate floor - which I did during our 8 night stay in January.

If they continue at the pace they have been, I think your math is bang on! :)

we will be there tomorrow,I will try and get around and post a progress report.
Thanks so much!! If you don't mind sharing about your room type (queens with tub or shower) we would greatly appreciate that too! (PS - understand completely if you'd prefer until you get home to share this info as we ask for room number although we promise not to come party at your room! :) )

I need opinions! We have a family trip booked for AoA this summer in a Lion King suite. There are 5 of us - me 34, grandma 60, DS4, niece 12, step-nephew 13. I recently stayed in a refurb at Pop and LOVED it! I can't decide if we should switch to 2 rooms at Pop instead of a suite. Can anyone that's stayed in a refurb Pop room and recently at AoA give me some insight? Pop will be $250 less. We won't be in the rooms a lot. Leave early for parks, afternoon break for toddler to nap and big kids to swim, then back to parks for as late as everyone wants to stay. 5 night trip. First trip for niece and nephew. I seriously loved the beds at Pop so I don't want to be disappointed about bed comfort a trip AoA. I also like that we'd have 4 queens instead of a queen & 2 fulls. Connecting rooms would be my only request. I know not guaranteed but that's not really a deal breaker. Help! Thanks!

Personally I would choose Pop!! Save money and everyone have a real bed!! As the person who often gets the pullout couch option when we travel I'd much prefer everyone (even the kids) have a bed rather than a pull out couch. Also, 4 beds rather than 3.

Well I haven't stayed at AoA, but for less money and more beds, I would definitely go with Pop!

I've also found that out of every resort we've stayed, Pop is the BEST at granting room requests. We've always gotten exactly what we've requested without ever having to ask to switch rooms.

I will make sure and do so...
you can come on by to party we aren't shy and we will have plenty of beer ;)
