Do not disturb gone (BLT)

Imagine.....people on vacation not wanting to be disturbed. If Disney is going to make us not want to be in our high priced rooms then why not just stay at All Stars, stay out of the room all day and save a bunch of money. Security aside this may not go over well with guests IMO.
I agree 100% (see below). I will not be staying at DVC anymore. If this actually turns out to be a daily "check" where I am disturbed inconveniently, I will be most likely selling. I LOVE not being disturbed and managing the cleanliness of the unit myself without having to store or hide items. I do not want anyone entering the room and have grown so accustomed to this, that when I stay at regular hotels, I don't even frequently use housekeeping -- maybe every few days, because I absolutely don't want the disturbance. This will deter me so completely that I will consider selling. Another option would be using my points at non-Disney properties or exchanges, though I've never really desired that. I hope *fingers crossed* that the information on this thread is not wholly accurate, because this woman will be making an enormous stink should anyone walk in on her unannounced or even inconveniently announced. Will not be tolerated. Not never.

Good luck finding another place to stay, this is becoming the norm everywhere. Hilton has announced a similar policy for all of their properties worldwide. (Embassy Suites, Hampton Inn, Hilton, Conrad, DoubleTree, Waldorf Astoria, Garden Inn, Hilton Grand Vacations timeshares, Homewood Suites and more). And the Marriott chain is taking applications for room inspectors. Kind of leaves Motel 6...

Sounds like it will be an insurance requirement in response to huge lawsuits filed against Mandalay Bay in the wake of the Las Vegas shooting.

I'd be interested to hear in a few weeks/months how "everyday" is the trash pick up. With the cleaning schedule as it is now, we rarely have an issue free trip concerning housekeeping.

Just about every trip we have issues with getting paper plates. Last trip, we had housekeeping come to our room three times, never got plates/bowl/silverware.

I'm not happy with this because of the nap issues but aside from that, I've always felt I needed to clean up a little on T&T. Not that we are awful awful, but make sure the dirty clothes are in the laundry bag, not just throw on the bathroom floor. Consolidate toothbrushes, paste, general sink area stuff. Things like that. We might have dumped out the bag of three hundred drugstore items we travel with looking for a bandaid. I'd make sure that bag would be put together again. No housekeeping that day, I'd might leave it until later.

Once we were doing a split stay and when I packed my suitcase I had put an almost full spray can of sunscreen. During the course of the move, the entire can emptied in the suitcase. We had an ADR to get to, so I quickly unpacked stuff, draped dry stuff on the chairs, the wet stuff was rinsed and hanging in the bathroom. Suitcase emptied and open, any other items on table. Basically it looked like my luggage exploded.

Off we went to our dinner. We come back and there is a card and balloon for our anniversary. Very nice, but I was so embarrassed by the way the room looked.

When the kids were little we enjoyed daily housekeeping because they usually did cute stuff with the kids toys, made them towel animals etc. We contemplated DVC nearly every visit and no daily housekeeping was a downside for us. Nowadays, we always put our DND sign up (all hotels) and call down to request towels when we run out. We don't put anything that would rot / stink in the room cans, so they typically don't need emptying. Basically, we prefer no housekeeping.

That being said, if this improves our safety, so be it. If this helps reduce damage to units that costs members money, so be it. This at least makes some sense to me. I'm much more worried / annoyed about the dog-friendly issue than this one.

I would hope that they will be reasonable about the room checks. If they come by and the latch is on, it seems they could mark that the room wasn't inspected and a list of the rooms that were "missed" could go to someone in charge to call your room and ask that you schedule a return time within X amount of time. It should be understandable that people need to shower and change, have babies napping, etc. Honestly, with magicbands, they should know when you all leave your room, so you'd think they'd really try to do the checks when you are gone. As for guests, they shouldn't worry about the room being messy. It's not like housekeeping is trying to clean around it.

I really do feel bad for families with napping children. That really sucks to have to worry about them being woken up. I wonder if guests could be proactive and call down to the desk and request a "do not disturb" for an hour or two because of a napper. I'd at least try it.

I think the whole thing is ultimately completely bizarre. If I have a an occupied sign out and someone is insisting on entry, I am not going to be a happy camper. This seems like a drastic measure that will do more to make you feel like you're in an insane asylum than Disney World. I for one will be selling my DVC if this turns out to be a constant inconvenience. I'll stay somewhere where they have total respect for paying customer. Whoever thougth up this loon of a plan must be part of the new Disney experience because I have noticed things changing a lot lately.
Respectfully, I think selling DVC is a little over the top. Disney has a duty to keep all visitors safe. In this day and age I'm OK with this if it's for the safety of my family and others. We need to start thinking of the bigger picture here. We don't want a Vegas incident.

I called DVC last night to see what their procedure is. We are not early risers, we like to go to the parties and come back to the room really late. We will not appreciate a early morning room check. They told me they really don't have a procedure down yet, all they knew if if you put the occupied sign up that was signal to the staff you were in the room and they are not disturb you. He told me we can call down to the front desk and let them know on the certain days they are not to come to the room at least till noon etc.

There is reasonable and there is unreasonable. They want to come in, fine, but do not wake me up after I came in about 2 am from a xmas party etc.

Well, that will be interesting.

You can't take a weapon into the park. And now, with these checks, you shouldn't leave a weapon where housekeeping might find it in your room.

Where the heck are you suppose to store it?

Most handguns should fit in the rooms safe.

First of all you should not have a gun in the room. Here is what it says in the Rules and Regulations for BLT. There are similar clauses for all of the DVC Resorts.
Exhibit E. Condominium Rules and Regulations of Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, A Leasehold Condominium.

28. Weapons. No explosives, firearms, or weapons of any kinds shall be permitted in any Unit or Vacation Home or anywhere on the Condominium Property without the approval of the Board.

I would say you have to have a very good reason to get approval from the board, like be an officer of the law or something like that.

So the best answer as to what to do with your gun is to leave in your locked gun box at home.

I don't, and do not carry one around anywhere...but I have friends that are police officers and they carry their sidearms almost everywhere.
As do I.

I also have a carry permit, and have carried to Disney resorts and other vacation destinations. I'm not sure why "going to Disney" would be so different than any other destination.

All Front desks have secure safes behind the desk. I've had to use the one at WL on a couple occasions to store my work computer as we checked out and had a late Magical Express pick up. I really had to fight for the right to use it though as they didn't consider a laptop containing sensitive information for over 100K people to be worthy of protection. Doubt they'd fight over the need to lock a weapon in.

The safe is along the lines of a safe deposit box. You enter the safe with the cast member and only you touch your item. The boxes were barely big enough for my laptop, but made them work by removing the inner liner.

Have been at BLT for a number of days. We remove the "room occupied" sign when we go out in the morning. Housekeeping has been in and out to remove trash and recycle before our return 2 hours later. Apparently this was a quickly made change in policy and staff is still trying to find the right stride. When we are in the room the sign stays on the door and we double lock the door.

As someone else stated the dog issue concerns me more. Have already seen one in the lobby and another playing with a ball on the pool deck. Management told me they are not allowed to "ask". Give people an inch and they will push it a mile.

A previous poster has stated weapons of any kind are not allowed at the resort.

I didn't think BLT was one of the resorts that allowed pets?

Service dogs, by law, are permitted everywhere. If there was one running about chasing a ball at the resort, my bet was it was some well earned down time for the dog. They do work hard trying to remain attentive to their handlers. No one with a pet trying to pass it off as a SA would be out playing with it like that.

Anyone interested in finding out what a SA's life may look like should check out The Frey Life on youtube for more info on service animals. Mary has CF and her dog Oliver works hard for her, but still gets some down time with her husband Peter.

Hilton is going to the same thing. I really do not think they will be bothering anyone with an occupied sign on the door as long as they are allowed access to the room at some time during a 24 hour period. I don't find that unreasonable at all.

There’s a service dog here at BLT now, sort of a poodle, black.
