A "Common object" you don't have in your home

My parents house in NJ was built in 1973 and a garbage disposal was standard for all the homes in the subdivision. Their vacation home near the shore has one too.
Interesting! I remember talking about this with people and posting on Facebook, and no one I knew in NJ had one. Most of homes in my area were built in the 1940s and 1950s so maybe that could be a reason. I'll repoll my friends. Lol

We don't have a dryer - I hang my clothes to dry.

Us either. We used to have one but got rid of it. We have both an outdoor clothesline and an indoor one in the laundry with a heating duct directly above it.

But I have 5 (yes...5) ice cream scoops, and my spoon rest is shaped like Mickey Mouse:

(I got it at Walmart, and it's meant to be a soapdish.)

We didn't have a spoon rest until a few months ago and it's also a Mickey one from Walmart!

And I think we have 3 ice cream scoops but tend to always use the same (sturdy!) one.

Yet I have around 30 thimbles and I don't really know how to use one and I don't really sew.

Haha!

I don't sew either, yet I have a full-size sewing basket that someone gave us as shower present before we got married. I've got different colored thread, different-sized needles, thimbles, sewing scissors, measuring tape, & a pincushion. The basket resides on top of our laundry room cabinet. Very infrequently, I might sew a button back on something, & we've used the measuring tape a few times.

I do have a fireplace that we've never used.

No rice cooker. No keurig. No pets. No ashtray. No vertical egg cooker. No wine rack.

Let's see..... I do have a potato masher that I use to make applesauce. And pizza cutters are great for cutting up waffles for kids!

We love the toaster oven. It's way faster than using the regular oven, doesn't heat up the kitchen and gets things crispier than the microwave. We reheat lots of things in there. Leftover pizza - yum. Plus - ours is a kind of fancy one and it doubles as a second oven during heavy oven usage times (Thanksgiving, house full of Harvey people, etc). We use it more than our regular oven.

A toaster oven is so you can bake things quickly and not heat up your whole kitchen (plus waste energy) using a full sized oven. We use ours daily.
Ok, well, I don't bake things daily, and when I do use the oven, the things I put in it are too big to fit in a toaster oven.

We order real pizzas from some great places which means the slices are as big as my head so we need it for that. We use it for quesadillas, cutting tortillas to make chips etc. I have two because you need a back up pizza cutter.
I have a pizza cutter that could take your finger off if you aren't careful. :scared: I don't use that one. I use our other, back up pizza cutter. :p Though I guess I could use my ulu knife to cut pizza.

Reading the "Do you iron" thread. A common theme is ironing tablecloths. I do not own any tablecloths.
I have one, but I am not ironing it. It is a beautiful cranberry color that I put on the table in the Fall. The wrinkles eventually fall out. ;)

We don't have an iron. A tornado hit our house 2 years ago and I don't remember seeing the iron again after that. I hang and fold clothes as soon as the dryer is done and if I need to get a mysterious wrinkle out, I have a steamer.

Does anyone remember Good Eats with Alton Brown? He used to call them "unitaskers".

I have the book "Gear" by Alton Brown. It's mainly about pots and pans, knives, and other kitchen equipment, along with some recipes.

Yes, in the book he rails against unitasker gadgets, but admits to having a few himself, such as a "green bean frencher," to make those very thin French style green beans. But of course, if HE likes a particular unitasker, it's well worth having. :sad2:

....a clothesline. We had one in our former home [of 22 years]; we sold and purchased a new home about 19 months ago and I really miss having one, especially to air out our comforters and dry the sheets....
