Daisy Leaders Unite! Girl Scouts USA!

I was wondering when the preferred time to give out the World Trefoil pin is? Do you had it out at the investiture ceremony or after Thinking Day?

Thanks!

We are just going to have a holiday party - not really think about any petals or what not. Do a craft, eat a snack, all the moms are invited. just some fun.

We're giving our World Trefoil pins after Thinking Day. Our service unit has a Thinking Day festival that they do and we're going to participate in it.

Anybody have any Christmas meeting ideas to share?

Thanks!
We're having a holiday party. One of the crafts we're doing is making Christmas cards using the fronts of old Christmas cards (every year I save the fronts for my kids to use the following year). By doing this, we're doing our "Use Resources Wisely" part of the promise.

I'm trying to come up with a craft idea for the Red petal: courageous and strong. Does anyone have suggestions?? Thanks!

When my girls were in Daisies we did this for the courageous and strong petal"
1. We had a fashion show at a mother daughter tea. The girls dressed in dress ups they had brought from home. They each chose 2 costumes and I played music for them as they walked according to how they were dressed(cinderella song if they were wearing that costume).
2. For my younger daughter's troop, they had a tumbling/fitness class at a dance studio.
Hope this helps someone! I've had 2 Daisy troops and have been a leader for 7 years, so if anyone needs more ideas I have them.

The red petal seems to be more a doing petal than craft oriented, the pp has a nice idea for it. My older DD's group went swimming together and they supported the girls who were not as adventurous try new things (with adult supervision) like jumping in, etc.

As for a craft, just thinking creatively, you could tie in a few activities being courageous... Maybe do something like paper plate puppets..have the girls do self-portraits with them coloring the face, yarn hair, ribbon for bows, etc. and have the girls do little skits about friendship, feelings, etc. (Courageous, to do the skits, and then skits can include friendship themes like hurt feelings when a friend leaves someone out, etc. My younger DD did this at a meeting and they did a great job!)

Another activity to go along with it for the "Strong" half could be to make a "Healthy Me" little booklet with collages, things cut out from magazines and
newspapers. Things can include food groups, things to do to keep healthy, like exercise, healthy grooming, brush teeth, etc.
and then an emotions category, things that make me happy, etc.

I don't know, just a suggestion to get thinking along that direction which would be relatively simple and low cost for materials. (always a consideration!)
Hope this helps a little!

Everyone get their cookie info & are selling? I am not thrilled that the daisies are selling this year - I really feel they are too young.

I wasn't real happy with Daisies selling cookies this year either. But my Daisy is having a blast and has outsold her Brownie sister.:lmao:

The Daisies are not REQUIRED to sell -- if yours aren't ready for it, have them wait until next year.

If they do sell, remember that they are NOT supposed to be handling the money at all.

Have fun!

I have a new Daisy troop this year. Just wondering how many buy participation or event patches to go on the back of the smock or vest. If you do, where do you buy yours other than the GS shop?

Our service unit told us that Daisies were required to sell just like the others. It might be different with every service unit.

So, how did the cookie selling go? Our troop did pretty well. We have 8 girls and we sold 859 boxes. 2 of our girls sold over 175 boxes! I'm the cookie mom too and I'm not looking forward to cookie delivery time.

We buy ours from the GS shop. A lot of the events we attend are through the service unit and a patch is usually included in the fee for the event.

cookie selling went well i have 11 girls and have 1510 boxes of cookies

Wow, you guys did well! We have 18 girls and sold 900 some boxes...not bad and we didn't really push the issue with the girls being so young AND cookie sales starting Jan. 3... (a ridiculous time of year if you ask me!)

Hi :flower3:

We took our troop bowling
The local bowling alley has bumbers to keep the
balls out of the gutter.
Makes it much more fun.

Just watching the different styles to their approach
was histerical.

I'm stumped on "make the world a better place"
I think I'm going to ask the girls,
they always have great ideas.

Good luck!

For that one we made 2 kinds of birdfeeders and played a recycling game where the girls had a race to separate paper, plastic bottles and bags into containers.

We are using some of our cookie proceeds to buy items for care packages that we're going to make for the families that have to stay unexpectedly at our local children's hospital.

oooooh

I like both of these ideas.

One of my moms had suggested
using our cookie money to
make lunch for the first grade teachers.
A "thank you" lunch.

We are doing a tea with the principal for
"respect authority"

and painting some flower pots
as Cat in the Hat (red & white stripes)
for "friendly & helpful"
as a thank you to our librarian for letting us
have tea in the library.
The library is celebrating "read across america"
on Dr Suess' birthday and our pots will
compliment the decorations she is planning.

My girls are making me a little batty right now.
not listening, getting snippy with each other,
disrespectful behavior, etc.
I know they are first graders,
but I am not enjoying feeling like I a the heavy all the time.

Any helpful hints?
