I love this look! I really like daisies. They are such a happy flower! Where did you find that trim?

Joanns but it was so expensive, I think like $2.79 a yard or something. I had to have 3 yards so it ended up costing more than the fabric. They do have a similar one at Wal-Mart that you buy on a spool.

Hi Everyone - a little late, but a few more valentines things....

Riley finished her first project on her new sewing machine today!

th_October3025.jpg

She got the brother 6000 for Christmas and she has been going crazy wanting to sew sew sew! She did 90% of these all by herself and she could have done more if she just wasn't so worried that she would make a mistake. She even sewed the rick-rack all by herself.

I am so proud of her. She was sooooo excited when she got them finished!

Wow, she is beautiful and talented!

Here's a picture of the "whipped up" outfit I made Leigh today.

I made it extra twirly for her;)

Leigh says that this is "her pose!":goodvibes

Okay, how do you "whip up" applique? The outfit is adorable. I too was jealous that you had grass peeking through your snow.

What kind do you buy at Joann? I am just getting up my nerve to try my embroidery machine and I bought a spool of red Coats & Clark just to try it out. I didn't even think to look at other brands.

I go into the viking sewing gallery to get mine. I think they are buy 2 get 1 free, or buy 3 get 1 free. but it always ends up being $5.99 each. which is a lot more than the coats and clark, but they are quality. I also like the gutterman

I love ti! Tell her she did an excellent job! And..... I think I love your thread colection!

kstgelais4, that is a cute skirt. I have a question, when you make a patchwork skirt, do you finish all the seams on the inside? Does it take forever?

I press open the seams on the patchwork strips and then I finish the seams press up and zigzag the seams between the layers. It really only takes like 10 minutes longer for the whole project and it its so worth it. This morning I finished Julia's skirt and from start to finish including all the finished seams it took 2 hours. Once you get into the groove of it, it comes naturally to just finish them.

BTW, your skirt is super cute!

So here's a post of the two new projects I'll be starting next week.
The first is a really cute top that I'm borrowing out of the Limited Too catalog. The blue top is $27 retail and my fabric combined in the blue and blue flowered total cost $8. Can't wait to finish is.

This bottom fabric is my nightmare!!!:confused3 I don't know what DD5 was thinking about except that she LOVES:love: Buzz Lightyear. She wants a skirt and I thought I'd be able to pull out the light blue with some different fabrics, but she wanted the pea soup green? Again I don't know.:confused3 I think I'll do the basic three tier skirt because otherwise I'm going to be sick with the color. Any ideas?

She'll be popular with the boys in her class that's for sure!:hippie:

I love it when I can duplicate an outfit for less than I can buy it for.

My DD has also requested some strange dresses from time to time. She has requested a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle dress and a Spiderman dress.

When you put another layer under a dress, does it matter what kind of material? I was eyeying some white eyelet fabric yesterday at Joann's, but it was a little $$ - would I use the same amount of that as the actual dress skirt and then sandwich the tulle "skirt" in between them?

What I'd do is use the eyelet just for the bottom section of the layer and something less expensive where it won't show.

It would be great if LisaZoe or some of the other great knowlegeable Disers could write something up for your site though! I will bookmark it if they do. I know there were a few on here that had some great tips for those.

I'll be adding a tutorial for decoupage jeans to the DISboutiquers board. I also reposted my corset tutorial and added some photos of examples as well as how the corset can be used for the bodice of a dress.

She did a GREAT job! I think it's so nice to know more girls are learning to sew because even if they don't use the skill a lot, it's nice to have the knowledge when it's needed.

LOL, sounds like something Zoe would do. She definitely picks fabric I wouldn't. Maybe you could do a patchwork with lime and white (or light blue) in addition to the two above to help lighten up the color scheme.

totally lost the pic in the quote, but I love the pooh one. where did you find that fabric?
Lori

Hi - The fabric is flannel, and i got it at Joann's. It was just put into the clearance section this week!!

I finally found some children of the World fabric - I already had the bigger faces (Thanks Nana) and now have the smaller faces/flags and some of the words. I still am on the hunt for some of those mickey fabrics though!!

Anyone here from Detriot? I was wondering if there were any good fabric stores in that area - I will be there for a conference.

Getting ready for the Daytona 500 - do you think DH will let me sew while its on????

Thanks, Wendy

I love the lmtd too copy! Do you ever feel like your being robbed when you pay there? Seriuosly!!!!!! I was paying a while back and the lady paying next to me spent $200 all on tank tops!:scared1: It took all of my self control not to look at her and ask her if she had ever heard of Target???? They look exactly the same! We have a few lmtd too tank tops if we needed a specific color and they were super on sale, but $200 all at once!?!?!?!

I like the Buzz!:thumbsup2 It looks like there is some purple in there. Maybe you could get a purple gingham and add a little underskirt or something? I love purple and brown/green together.

Wow, I have been gone for a few days and we are nearly to a new thread alerady!

Wow, is crazy right now. I have been pulling extra shifts since we are short staffed. Since its evening, that is my sewing time I can't sew!

But its money right???? more money for our Disneyland trip, and for fabric. ahahaha

Ok back to catch up!

Thanks everyone for the comments on my "whipped up" outfit!

I am getting the tees at Wal-mart. The new tees for spring are great!

No pockets this year, and they have a nice gathered detail on the sleeves.

Lots of spring colors are available too.

So, I am going to start sewing today. I probably won't get to start the outfit until tomorrow or Tuesday, because I have to do a couple of pillowcases for a friend first.

I have a question for you experienced sewers.

How do you copy a pattern? I mean, I want to be able to use it more than once (same size and a bigger size). I am making a trip to Joanns her in just a bit, so if I need to pick something up for it, let me know :)

TIA

ok I am only on page 218 and there are some super awesome creations!! I was going to say "rad" but my dh looked over my shoulder and said "I think you are the only one in the world who still says rad anymore" ha! he made my change it.

SO...prove me wrong, doesn't anyone else say Rad, or am I REALLY the only one?

I'm leaving tomorrow for Disney! Whoohoo! I can't wait, especially after all of the snow/ice we've had here the last few days.

Here's what I've been working on for our trip.

Blankets for the stroller.

Mickey for DS2. I took a picture of Mickey and traced his sillouette for an applique. Then appliqued it onto both sides of the blanket. One side is the applique and the other is just the black thread. Make sense?

Side with Applique:

Side with thread:

Ariel for DD4. I used a pillowcase and appliqued around it. Again, the back is only the thread part.

Princesses for DD5 (6 next week!). Cinderella pillowcase.

Dresses are next......

LOVE These!! Georgia looked at the screen and said... Mommy I MUST MUST have them all! bwahahaha

I finally got DD's Valentines Dress finished with 5 hours to spare! LOL I wanted to do something really pink but also something she could wear this spring. It is very full. The dress has two layers and the width is 90 inches. That should be some good spinning! DD may wear her pettiskirt I am not sure yet. The third picture has the petti underneath.

I actually really like how it didnt come out with the extra twirliness. Great job

I certainly would be since I could really erase wrinkles, cellulite, hips, etc. ;)

Well, here's what I've been working on frantically to get it out today. I was so happy I got it done with plenty of time for photos.

Oh I Love the "whipped up" outfit! ADORABLE!! as well as the pose!

OK! I finally got through all those pages with my double windows open. that works GREAT if anyone needs to use it to catch up and post at the same time. hahaha

I am off to work, and hopefully, I will be on later tonight. I dont have a day off until Wednesay, but even then not really, its half day for the girls, then girl scouts! YIKES.. one busy lady here. I need time to sew darn it!

Have fun reading and sewing ladies. Hey at least my post count is still stayin up there. hahahahaha

where is everyone this morning?

Let's see...

First I went to Walmart to grab a Hannah Montana shirt.
Next was Trader Joe's.
Then was Bloom for the last of the groceries.
Finally I stopped at Hancock Fabric for patterns and a small amount of fabric.

Now I'm home and I just have to put away the groceries.

I'm in for the rest of the day, it's getting cold outside, it smells like snow but it's too warm out there to do that.
