I ended up splitting the difference, so to speak, and used the GC to pay my internet bill at one of the provider's physical stores which is only a couple of miles away anyway. The store person's theory was that technical network issues prevented their online payment system from accepting the card. Anyway, the card is now registered and PIN-selected so I have done all I can do.

Kroger cancelled my Boars Head meat & cheese and a few other items. DH went to pick up the items and then went inside the store and sure enough they had plenty. Why do they do this?
I find their service very frustrating and I doubt I'll be using it in the future.

Update: Just got back from my shopping trip.
Stopped by Kroger to get the Boar's Head meats and cheese along with other items that were "out of stock".

I spoke with the deli ladies to confirm their hours and asked why they didn't fulfill my order. They said, If we receive an order, we'll fulfill it. I explained what happened and they recommended I speak to the manager.
The manager came to the Customer Service desk and I told her I'm a disgruntled customer but I'm kind. Yes, that is exactly what I told her. Okay.
I explained what happened and showed her the "out of stock items" I had no issues finding. Okay.
I spoke with the deli ladies blah, blah blah. Okay.
Okay? What are you going to do about it? I'm going to give you these items for free and then I'm going to find out why your order wasn't fulfilled.
Okay! I thanked her profusely and went on my merry way.

My friends I'm telling you, leave the attitude and posturing out of conversation no matter how upset you are. Take a deep breath and speak the way you would want to be spoken to.
