I'm still debating about using the luggage tags. Our flight lands at 9:20 pm but it's just DD (9) and I. She's got some physical limitations and I'm not sure i could handle all the bags on my own.
How late would we be waiting for luggage realistically?
How many bags do you have? Size? Does your daughter need your help to move or is it that she cannot help with the bags? If she can move on her own, I might just pay for a cart at the airport you could push to DME. The bus driver will put the bags underneath for transport once they are off the cart. The driver unloads at the resort. You can get another cart at the resort and there is assistance there too.
If your daughter needs your assistance to move and you want to retrieve your own bags, I would check the airline's policies on assistance for those with disabilities. Once my husband had flown out of state to visit his children and had some back trouble before coming home bad enough that he had to get a wheelchair at the airport. When he returned an employee brought him to baggage claim where I was and stayed with him while I retrieved our vehicle, pushed him out to the car and stayed until I had everything loaded.
Advantage of getting your bags is you know if everything made it. It's already late so knowing as soon as possible if all of the bags made it would be good.
The simplest option though a pain after a long travel day is to let Disney get the bags and wait up for them. Hopefully there are no delays with your flight; but it will like the other poster said, be after midnight. Just have enough in the carry-ons so you can get cleaned up and your dd can go to bed. That lightens your load though, you don't have to worry about anyone being available to help, though I imagine an airport that does the level of business MCO does would come through and you can just focus on you and your daughter.
Finally, there's a lesser used option of shipping luggage to the resort. Here's the instructions from the Disney website:
Receiving Mail
Guests staying at Walt Disney World Resort hotels can receive mail throughout their stay. Occasionally, some Guests choose to ship items in advance of their vacation to help save luggage space.
If you intend to receive mail during your vacation, be sure the letter or package:
- Includes the mailing address of your Disney Resort Hotel
- Clearly features the word “Guest” on the front and the date of your arrival
Please note that a $5 per package handling fee will apply to all packages that are received through the Front Desk or are delivered to your Disney Resort hotel room.
I wouldn't ask for them to hold the bags until the next morning because if any thing you checked didn't make it, you want to know as soon as possible.
Not sure I'm much help either. The DISabilities board might be a good place to look.
