The new DVC Riviera Resort??

I'm definitely in the minority, but I don't want or desire a lot of "Disney" in the hotel room. After 12+ hours a day of Mickey in my face, the hotel not being overly themed is a nice break. Then again I own at BLT and like it, where many folks don't care for the resort.

FWIW I don't consider Disney to mean Mickey Mouse or Donald or Goofy. I mean theme - and I mean strong, over the top theme. And I'd only consider white a theme at the North Pole. Take VWL. It's Disney theme to me - or at least it was because it had a strong theme. It has/had some hidden Mickey's but it's central Theme was actually not what you are referring to.

UGH! I really dislike these rooms! I own at VGF also, and for the PPs who said these rooms remind them of VGF, I respectively disagree. The materials in these rooms look cheap. I've never thought that about the rooms at VGF. And the layouts are funky. No longer have a need to own here, that's for sure. I LOVE the European theme of the outside and common areas that we have been shown and there was so much potential in what they could have done here in the rooms. And this is what we get? UGH! I really don't even have a desire to stay here, to be honest.

I agree that the rooms are similar to VGF (though not quite as nice- no tray ceilings, galley style kitchen etc).

I don’t find that the lobby, common areas, or exterior of the resort are as unique or nice however. Rather unforgettable.

I think it had more to do with the layout of the studios, 1 bedrooms, and 2 bedrooms, than with the decor. The layouts are almost identical but will probably be smaller in square footage.

I really want to see a point chart now. I'm happy they're expanding the room options since Poly. Also nice to see pull down beds instead of sleeper sofas. I'm intrigued at this point.
WARNING :ccat:
The only points that matter long term on the charts are 2BR and GV. Studio and 1BR mean nothing long term. Don't base your decision on the point chart for studios or 1BR.

Does this resort remind anyone else of some of the ones in Vegas? I can't put my finger on it, but I keep getting a Vegas feeling when looking at the renderings of the hotel building, pools, etc.
I’ve never been to Vegas, but for some reason those pods scream chic youth hostel to me.

It does remind me of Monte Carlo and Paris, both of which are on the Las Vegas strip, circa mid 2000s.

Also, for what it is worth, I get the same Las Vegas vibe with the Gran Destino Tower at Coronado Springs.

Yes!!! I’ve stayed at the Paris, and we gamble at the Monte Carlo. Thank you. This is it. The pool also reminds me of all the pools in Vegas, especially the one at the Paris. Too funny.

I love Vegas and we have gone many times...I never end up spending any time at the pools though...the casinos are always the perfect temperature!o_O

One thing that caught my eye is the limited kitchen. It's more like I see with hotel conversions. Overall it looks interesting, we'll see what the points structure is but recent history doesn't suggest it'll be low.

Does the one bedroom have just one bathroom? Or am I missing it on the floorplan?

Nope your not missing anything, it only has 1 bathroom and can only really be used by one person at a time, would have thought that they would have gone with the BLT bathroom layout which seems more functional than the VGF layout for 1 bedrooms.

Seeing these floorplans makes me feel relief as an original 14 owner. I can understand CCV going with less bathrooms and a smaller layout due to space restrictions based on building into old hotel rooms, but Riviera was built from the ground up. Looks like this is the new DVC norm, and the old resorts, with their larger rooms and more bathrooms, will be in that much more demand as a result. The resale value on those resorts should remain plenty high.

Thanks.

We are in a one bedroom at BLT right now. So nice for our family of 5. We are traveling with another family and cooked dinner the other night for all 9 of us. It is a livable, functionable space for 9 people to hang out in for a couple hours. 2 bathrooms and 1 kitchen is huge. Disappointed in Riviera. Really glad we bought at BLT and OKW.
