Our 21 Royal Adventure - The evening is over and TR all wrapped up 8/10, Plus a link to the new TR!

We had just enjoyed three plated courses, a break and a palate cleanser before we sat down to the main portion of our meal. Our next course was poultry, and not just any poultry, but first, the wine that it was served with was a red. Father John, Comptche, Pinot Noir, Mendocino County 2017. The next course was

Birds of a Feather
Pheasant Galatine, Duck Breast, Braised Lentil, Spring Green Garlic

Here’s a more close up version. Basically it was one of the poultrys rolled inside the other with all the spices and stuff mentioned.

x23DL0511R83.jpg

This was super tasty! Normally I’m not a fan of duck, not sure if I’ve ever had pheasant before. This wasn’t gamey at all, and all the flavors totally complimented each other. I think I pretty much polished this one off!

Chef Gloria came into the room to describe the dish we were about to enjoy.

x23DL0511R84.jpeg

I’m not exactly sure what Ken said to her as she walked into the room but it was evidently pretty darn funny.

x23DL0511R86.jpeg

And then here we was our main course of the evening. It was served with a red wine, Marques de Murrieta, Castillo Ygay, Gran Reserva, Rioja, Spain, 2011.

You could tell that this was a well aged wine, it was very smooth, they also didn’t give us a very large pour!

Basque Style Beef
Plancha Seared Dry Aged Prime New York, Black Trumpet Velvet, Rioja Jus

And a closer look.

x23DL0511R88.jpg

This was cooked perfectly, and was very tender and flavorful. Unfortunately with everything that you saw we ate before this I couldn’t even finish half of it. I know that there were two pieces of beef left on my plate when I gave up.

I wasn’t the only one who had reached capacity. I think both Jenny and her daughter Gabby were pretty much done as well. I remember them making a big deal about packaging it up for Gabby’s boyfriend Anthony, and I believe I added my pieces to the mix as well. The staff was so nice, they brought back a nice little bag with everything all packaged up and when Anthony opened it up there was a sweet little note about how they missed out meeting him and some other niceties.

Our evening was not nearly done, however. We were welcomed back out to the patio where Chef Gloria was set up.

Have a look and listen.

The dish was Cherries Jubilee if you didn’t watch the video. Here is my plate.

x23DL0511R91.jpg

This is a better version from Su-Lynn.

x23DL0511R92.jpg

Here we are enjoying the treat in the courtyard.

x23DL0511R93.jpg

Back in the dining room we were served our dessert and final course of the evening. It was paired with an Inniskillin, Cabernet Franc, Ice Wine, VQA, Niagara Peninsula, Canada, 2019. It was a perfect choice for our dessert which was:

Strawberries in all Their Glory
Strawberry White Chocolate Layer Cake, Roasted Strawberry Sorbet
x23DL0511R94.jpg

I may have also added an Amaretto neat to the mix as well….Also there were several ladies in our party who couldn’t drink red wine, for this course they had a substitute dessert wine, it was a Dolce from Far Niente in Napa, it’s a non-vintage wine and also incredibly delicious!

Here’s yet a more close up view

x23DL0511R95.jpg

And the little petit fours biscuits that we were served.

x23DL0511R96.jpg

Tea and coffee were served as well.

x23DL0511R96a.jpg

We took one last group picture in the dining room before we dove into our desserts!

x23DL0511R97.jpg

Su-Lynn is always so good about pictures for her Insta!

x23DL0511R98.jpg

The consensus was that this was over the top AMAZING! The strawberry flavor was just perfect with the subtlety of the white chocolate and the cake. I wish I’d taken a picture once the little tower had been cracked open, it was exquisite. Some people saved those little petit fours for the next day, I scarfed mine down without a second thought.

Here’s a shot of all the wines that we enjoyed over the course of the evening.

x23DL0511R99.jpg

We were invited onto the patio to watch the fireworks.

x23DL0511R96b.jpg

When we returned from the fireworks, there were gift bags at each of our places. They contained a pastry (I didn’t care for it, I think it was carrot cake), some coffee, and another gift.

x23DL0511R100.jpg

This pin was the other gift that I mentioned above.

x23DL0511R103.jpg

There were also copies of the menu for courses that we had been served at the table that evening.

x23DL0511R101.jpg

x23DL0511R102.jpg

And then we took one last group photo in the sitting room.

x23DL0511R104.jpg

x23DL0511R105.jpg

But we weren’t done yet. All I can say is “Jenny made us do it!”

x23DL0511R106.jpg

x23DL0511R107.jpg

x23DL0511R108.JPG

And then they escorted us to the door…..

A few parting photos.

x23DL0511R109.jpg

x23DL0511R110.jpg

They escorted us back to the van, and took us to the hotel. And with that our 21 Royal experience was done.

When we got back to the hotel room, Jenny invited Jill, Leonard, and I in our Jammies to come snuggle in the beds with them. I had a bottle of wine and some of us were enjoying a wee nightcap. I guess we were making a bit of noise because pretty soon at the back door, Allyson and Dorian knocked. (Remember they were in the room next door). They joined the party too. I think we stayed up until nearly midnight before finally hitting the hay. I think I took a bath before going to sleep but not sure.

We had just enjoyed three plated courses, a break and a palate cleanser before we sat down to the main portion of our meal.
"Main portion"...
Three plated courses and not at the main yet!!
Our next course was poultry, and not just any poultry,
ooohhh... magic poultry! That's the best kind.
Here’s a more close up version. Basically it was one of the poultrys rolled inside the other with all the spices and stuff mentioned.
Oh, sure. Turducken. Get it at the grocery store.

:duck:
I’m not exactly sure what Ken said to her as she walked into the room but it was evidently pretty darn funny.
Great shot!
Plancha Seared Dry Aged Prime New York, Black Trumpet Velvet, Rioja Jus
That sounds very interesting. I get how the steak was cooked, but what made the mushrooms be "velvet"? Was it a puree?
Unfortunately with everything that you saw we ate before this I couldn’t even finish half of it. I know that there were two pieces of beef left on my plate when I gave up.
I'm not at all surprised! So. Much. Food!
The staff was so nice, they brought back a nice little bag with everything all packaged up and when Anthony opened it up there was a sweet little note about how they missed out meeting him and some other niceties.
Very nice. :)
Our evening was not nearly done, however.
More food?????

:faint:
Have a look and listen.
You can't tell at all that people have had a fair bit of wine.

Not at all.

:rolleyes1
It was paired with an Inniskillin, Cabernet Franc, Ice Wine, VQA, Niagara Peninsula, Canada, 2019.
I've been to that Winery. :) Had the white, though, of course.
Strawberry White Chocolate Layer Cake, Roasted Strawberry Sorbet
Not a huge fan of white chocolate, but... the rest sure sounds good.
Also there were several ladies in our party who couldn’t drink red wine, for this course they had a substitute dessert wine, it was a Dolce from Far Niente in Napa, it’s a non-vintage wine and also incredibly delicious!
Ah! so what did they do for them, since I'd be in the same boat? Did they pour whites, throughout the evening?
The consensus was that this was over the top AMAZING!
I bet! I think you could describe the entire meal that way, no?
Some people saved those little petit fours for the next day, I scarfed mine down without a second thought.
We were invited onto the patio to watch the fireworks.
Nice way to end the evening. :)

Except it wasn't over!!
When we returned from the fireworks, there were gift bags at each of our places. They contained a pastry (I didn’t care for it, I think it was carrot cake), some coffee, and another gift.
Love that touch, nonetheless.
This pin was the other gift that I mentioned above.
Love it. Not too many people are going to have those!
There were also copies of the menu for courses that we had been served at the table that evening.
Nice souvenir. :)
And then we took one last group photo in the sitting room.
You guys all look like you've just had the night of your lives. :goodvibes
But we weren’t done yet. All I can say is “Jenny made us do it!”
:lmao:
And then they escorted us to the door…..
:rotfl:
They escorted us back to the van, and took us to the hotel. And with that our 21 Royal experience was done.
Wow! I can only say that... Wow!

Only one thing left to do now.

Do it again with more Canadian friends!

What a fun way to end the night. :goodvibes
I'd probably be too self-conscious to join in, in jammies, but... sounds like just a wonderful ending to a perfect evening.

Thanks so much for letting us follow along!

Oh my goodness, I'm full just looking at those lovely food and wine photos......the cherries jubilee video was a nice touch ;) What a fabulous evening

The duck dish was described as a take on turducken…..it was a very upscale turducken! 😂😂. I was stuffed bu the beef course but I managed to find room for the cherries jubilee and strawberry dessert! It was such an amazing night!
Jill in CO

Finally got to read your TR. Sorry again for the loss of Fran. My aunt and I had good times with the two of you over the years. Nice that you are moving forward and doing this in honor of Fran.

I always wanted to read about 21 Royal TR and looking forward to reading more.

"Main portion"...
well, so to speak
Three plated courses and not at the main yet!!
All the others were just "appetizers" leading up to the main....
ooohhh... magic poultry! That's the best kind.
:lmao:
Oh, sure. Turducken. Get it at the grocery store.

:duck:

Well as Jill pointed out above this was billed as an upscale turducken.
That sounds very interesting. I get how the steak was cooked, but what made the mushrooms be "velvet"? Was it a puree?
I have no idea. By this time the wine and the food coma were setting and obviously since I missed the previous discussion about it being an upscale turducken, I missed the gist of this one too. It was sort of like Charlie Brown's teacher was talking.
I'm not at all surprised! So. Much. Food!
::yes::
You can't tell at all that people have had a fair bit of wine.

Not at all.

:rolleyes1
See you can tell that we are all quite "happy"! :rotfl2:
I've been to that Winery. :) Had the white, though, of course.
I've had lots of their wines, but never been to the winery.
Not a huge fan of white chocolate, but... the rest sure sounds good.
I'm not either but when it's got all that other stuff going on, I ate it all.
Ah! so what did they do for them, since I'd be in the same boat? Did they pour whites, throughout the evening?
Yes, they gave them whites for the rest of the evening while we were served reds.
I bet! I think you could describe the entire meal that way, no?
Pretty much! :thumbsup2
Nice way to end the evening. :)

Except it wasn't over!!
Almost though!
Love it. Not too many people are going to have those!
Nope! But I've actually got a few. :rolleyes1
You guys all look like you've just had the night of your lives. :goodvibes
We pretty much did!
Wow! I can only say that... Wow!

Only one thing left to do now.

Do it again with more Canadian friends!
Shall I put you on the list for the next time? We are already talking about it!
What a fun way to end the night. :goodvibes
I'd probably be too self-conscious to join in, in jammies, but... sounds like just a wonderful ending to a perfect evening.

Thanks so much for letting us follow along!

Well Allyson and Dorian weren't in their Jammies, but I changed out of that dress when we got back to the room. I had brought a little Artistocats nightgown (I bring it when staying at other folks houses) and it covered the basics. I think Jill had on leggings and a T-shirt, and Leonard was wearing a T-shirt and either boxer shorts or an equivalent. So the definition of "jammies" will vary.

Well as Jill pointed out above this was billed as an upscale turducken.
It’s like I was there. :)
have no idea. By this time the wine and the food coma were setting and obviously since I missed the previous discussion about it being an upscale turducken, I missed the gist of this one too. It was sort of like Charlie Brown's teacher was talking.

Yes, they gave them whites for the rest of the evening while we were served reds.
Okay. I’m in.
Nope! But I've actually got a few. :rolleyes1
Ah ha!
Shall I put you on the list for the next time? We are already talking about it!
Hmmm… let me know via email and we can discuss.

What a wonderful evening! Loved the tub pics!

Thanks for sharing!

I have just found this TR - and I have to tell you how truly sorry I am for your loss. I'm sorry to come into this TR like this, but I had to express my condolences on this huge loss. I've enjoyed your trips together for years, and I am so sorry she is not with you.

The duck dish was described as a take on turducken…..it was a very upscale turducken! 😂😂.
Thanks for that clarification! By the time we got that far I was in a food coma and barely heard what the chefs were telling us.
I was stuffed bu the beef course but I managed to find room for the cherries jubilee and strawberry dessert! It was such an amazing night!

I was stuff too, but magically I found room for dessert.
