Let’s play what’s wrong with me..physically- small update, pg.3

That would concern me the most. It is most likely to be nothing of consequence if it is soft and mobile. Hard and not moveable is more likely to be something nefarious.

I wouldn’t call it hard, like it’s not like a rock at all. It’s also not so squishy that I can push down on it and feel the other side. It’s firmer today than it usually is. If it gets ‘worse’ over the weekend I’ll probably head over to the Er and see what’s going on.

@Kitty 34 my appointment isn’t until May 8, so, two weeks away. I’ve never been one to ignore health issues, and I’m keeping an eye, or a hand on it.

Ok, I did the one thing you’re not supposed to do..I went reading on the internet. I know better than that!

I don’t know if anyone wanted to guess this, but didn’t want to freak me out, but there’s a kind of cancer that fits what I have. It’s called liposarcoma. I know you can read any symptoms to match them to what you have but omg, it’s a pretty good match.

My burrito has been bigger today and a little more hard on one end of it, and that is new, so, I think instead of waiting for my dr visit which is still almost two weeks away, I’m going to go to the ER on Friday and get it checked out. That way, there’s a X-ray and ct and mri machine right there. I know an mri machine has a 3-4 month wait list depending on how urgent you are, but a ct can be done same
Day.

I’m really scared about this now because what if it’s a result of my surgery a year ago? What if cells spread and they didn’t notice? Way too many what ifs for 2:19 in the morning. Good thing I’m not busy tomorrow..

I am surprised that your doctor appointment is so far away for something that is this alarming to you. Is that normal? My insurance requires the doctor to get you in for an appointment within 24 hours if you have an urgent matter and within no more than 3 days for everything else (annual physicals excluded).

I guess you can only blame yourself for looking it up. You knew better. Hopefully in the future you can resist.

That said, my bet is on something benign.

I mowed the lawn yesterday. It's early spring and as you know we're probably not in the greatest mow the lawn shape this early in the season. So for kicks I googled my symptoms even though I know I'm tired and sore from mowing the lawn.

Oh noes. It's Lou Gehrig's. I'm doomed.

Wait a minute. It might be Parkinson's. I'm still doomed.

And that my fellow dissers illustrates the pitfall of internet diagnosis.

My best guess is that the maple leaf on her avatar means she is Canadian and has National Health Care.

The internet Med. sites will turn you into a hypochondriac. That is why Docs tell you not to.

My doctor has a copy of a popular comic strip on the wall. This particular one is of a doctor's office and it has a sign that says there will be a double charge for anyone that goes to the internet for a diagnosis prior to their appointment.

Canadian, so don’t have to deal with insurance. When I made my appointment, it was made mainly to get refills on some prescriptions. My burrito was mentioned by me as a throwaway. If I told them it was urgent and they couldn’t get me in, they’d either suggest a walk in clinic or heading to the ER.

100% agree with you. I’m not convinced I have cancer, it just fits is all. That, and at 2.19 in the morning my sleeping pills have a pretty good grip on me, and I should hide my phone before I go to bed. Some of my late night Facebook posts have been pretty funny lol

LOL

Whether I end up in the ER, or wait it out til my appointment, the C word will not leave my lips. I’m someone who trusts doctors and let them do what they feel needs to be done. I’ll only mention lipoma if someone says it’s nothing (and my dr isn’t like that).

If you have to wait 3-4 months for an MRI, I think I would go ahead to the doctor now and get on the list.

Well, now is still May 8. If I do decide to go to the ER and they decide I need one, I’d get in then or the next day. It’s all based on urgency. I once had my neurologist to push me in the same day I saw him.

So, it seems to be pretty small and unnoticeable during the day. Then, at night it’s back to it’s huge size. I haven’t eaten a ton so I don’t think it’s my stomach expanding. I still am symptom free..all bathroom activities are totally normal.

I twisted my knee wrong tonight so I don’t think I’ll be going to the hospital tomorrow.

Ah,Kim... twisted knee? All the more reason to go to the ER. Don't wait until May 8th... there aren't enough sleeping pills in the world to get you through the nights until then!

You’re probably right. I’m so insistent that my husband and daughter stay on top of health things and then I leave my things until the last minute.

Get a copy of your medical records from your surgery and bring those with you.

I’d probably call the doctor and explain about this lump and see if you can get in sooner.

I really don’t think it’s as easy as that. I wouldn’t even know who to call to ask. Maybe the general clinic where I saw the drs? It’s really not a thing that’s done up here. Plus, I think it would be part of my computerized chart.

Anyway, I’ve decided to go to the ER tomorrow morning. I’m hoping it will be less busy then, being a Sunday morning. It is also the first weekend after social assistance cheques came out, so who knows.

I keep saying I’ll go when it’s bad, and then postponing when I have a few hours where it isn’t so bad. I need to just get over myself and go. I told my husband that’s when I’m willing to go so he’ll hold me to it.

:scratchin Agree that it's not a very commonly-done thing here and my guess is because we are not generally able to access testing/specialist consults outside of referrals from our own doctor. In those instances our doctors share whatever information is necessary with the specialists - we don't take it with us. I do know (here at least) that if you change primary care providers, you can, for an administration fee, have your entire file sent to the new physician. I'm not sure if you can just "buy" a copy of it for yourself though. And a lot of things regarding access to records are hit-and-miss, depending on the health provider. I've had testing and minor procedures done where they give me a paper "report" when I leave and many more where I have to see my doctor to get the results/follow-up.

Just curious - what effect would it being welfare-cheque day have on how busy urgent care is?

Our city has a large native population and it’s well known that ER visits increase due to fights, and alcohol poisoning, stabbings, etc. It’s a sad stain on our city. Of course, it happens with other ethnicities too, but it’s predominantly native people.

When it’s the end of the month and welfare cheques come out, people have money to buy more alcohol and drugs.

:scared: not sure it's just an Alberta thing but here they prefer to be called First Nations.
