FORT FIENDS DREAM CRUISE Sept 4th, 2011 (Labor Day Week)

I went on and put in 4 people 3 adults and 1 child, just in case my Daughter and GS want to come and the 1st rate went from $399 up to $429, the 3rd and 4th were cheeper, but I wonder why the frist 2 are more. Strange

Pay close attention to the stateroom category. It's likely that the system bumped you up a category when you added the extra 2 people.

I just did that experiment myself....
Booking 2 people puts you in an 11C
Booking 4 people puts you in and 11A

Its the typical cruse lines way of getting a few extra bucks....all the staterooms are the same sq footage...but some arent "equipped" for 4 passengers. The rooms are priced for double occupancy....guests 3,4 &5 recieve a much lower rate when staying in the same room as 1&2. The rate increases again if you have a 5th passenger, althou NO rooms are equipped for 5....the 4 passenger room gets a rollaway bed and the rate rises with that rollaway!!! Ive been looking at Carnival and they work the same way.

I did the math earlier in the thread for those interested...

...The lowest rates are in September(of coarse) and a family of four can sail a 4 night cruise for about $1500 in an Inside stateroom, about $1750 for an Oceanview stateroom, and about $2200 for a Veranda stateroom. These are quotes from the DCL website, it includes taxes and fees, but does not include the Vacation Insurance Option nor the Ground Transportation Option(who needs that crap?)...

These are the lowest prices a family of four can get as far as I can tell.

Location, location, location. The differences between cat 11C, B, A are location. You will pay more for a stateroom located higher in the ship. 11C are on deck 2. 11B are on deck 5,6,7. 11A are on deck 8,9,10.

There are 4 person 11C staterooms. It is likely though that they and the 11B are already booked which is why it dumped you into the 11A.

Hey Rog, I can tell you that Sept 4th would almost definitely NOT work for us. :( Matt usually starts school a couple days right before labor day, and I really don't want to pull him out the first week of school. We were really planning around Halloween, and staying at the Fort afterward so we could see the Christmas decorations.

Sorry :(

How much do you "feel" the water? My girls and dh would love this, they have begged me but i don't do water.

Gina doesnt "do water" either....but I keep reassuring her that unless she's looking over the edge, chances are that she'll never even know she's on the water. Sometimes there are rough seas and you may feel some sway......but this is a HUGE ship...it will absorb most movement smoothly.....and theres always dramamine patches. Gina worked on a casino steamship for years and they occassionally set sail.....she knows deep inside, its just the anticipation of committing to 4 days at sea, I think.

Well......as long as you stay on the boat you won't feel the water :lmao:

The modern ships are very stable. You really be surprised how little you do feel the motion. It takes some fairly rough seas to really feel it. You can mitigate the motion somewhat by choosing a room on a lower level near the center of the ship. If you are prone to motion sickness, start taking bonine or your medication of choice the day before you board. It's usually to late once you start getting sick.

On our Christmas cruise we had one date with 16' waves. Made for a pretty rough ride. The only people that could walk a straight line were the drunks:rotfl:

Another good reason to bring a bottle on board!!!!!

John......I sure hate to hear this....I was hoping we could catch up on some of the time we DIDNT get to spend together at the Fort!!

i'm not worried about motion sickness, im scared of drowning. (did i mention i stand backwards in the shower) i can't breathe around water, i have tried because we live near a lake but people really don't like it when a stranger hops of a boat onto their docks and swiftly walks through their yard gasping for air.

Well, unless you're up top or looking out a window, you can easily forget that you're on a ship.

Nassau, you can get off the ship and walk to the market and shops. You can hire taxi/limos at the dock to take you sightseeing. Honestly you don't want to sight see there, it is very poverty stricken. Looking at resorts and casinos is very nice.

Not sure what the excursions are but If you get a chance Atlantis does tours and is a nice place to visit, worth the $? You be the judge.

orrrrr another reason to bring a big bottle of wine, who knows maybe id be swimming by the end of the cruise.

Make the plans, Amanda.....just MAKE THE PLANS!!!! You'll be SO glad you did!!!!

Just don't watch 2012!!! :lmao:
:scared:

Nassau is where that big, fancy, rich people(;)) resort ATLANTIS is. If a family can afford it...Ive read that the WATERPARK is phenomenal! but at $110/Adult, and $80/kid for the day...I'll just have to take their word for it!!
Discover Atlantis Tour: This tour is the best-known to day-trippers, in part because it is sold as an excursion on cruise ships. Expert "Navigators" guide visitors through the ancient city streets of Atlantis during a visit to "The Dig," a faux-but-believable archaeological exploration of an 11,000-year-old lost continent. The attraction is full of interesting artifacts and hieroglyphics, along with great water effects and glimpses of exotic sea life, including piranha, moon jellyfish, venomous lionfish, and a resident manta ray.

A Discover Atlantis Tour wristband allows visitors to explore The Dig and its exhibits as well as the Ruins, Predator and Water’s Edge Lagoons -- but not the waterpark. Wristbands can be purchased at the Temple of the Moon in the Atlantis casino or at any Discover Atlantis Sales Centers located throughout the property. Cost is $35 for adults, $25 for children ages 4-12.

The Atlantis Beach Day program that provides all-day access to the exclusive white sandy beaches of the Atlantis resort, with lounge chairs and towels provided. Also includes access to the marine habitats and lunch at an outside venue. Price is $60 for adults, $35 children 4-12. Beach Day tickets may be purchased at any Discover Atlantis Sales Centers located throughout the property.

Atlantis Aquaventure Package: For $110 adults or $80 for children, day-trippers can purchase an Atlantis Aqaventure package that provides all day access to pools, beaches and Aquaventure, a 141-acre waterscape containing over 20 million gallons of water with water slides, a mile-long river ride with high intensity rapids and wave surges, and more. Aquaventure wristbands can be purchased at any Discover Atlantis Sales Centers located throughout the property. Children under age 3 are free.

Atlantis In Nassau...Things to do

I'd love to do this. But since I'm not really a 'fiend', how much of an outsider do you think I'd feel? Most of you know each other from prior gatherings.

Any one else considering this that would be traveling solo?

Kag.....PLEASE dont consider yourself as a NON-FIEND!!!!!!! Besides....Im trying to recruit facebook friends for this too!!!! We'll be on a ship, there are no "outsiders"!!! I havent met ALOT of fiends...I know a few, but I didnt even know THEM untill I attended a GG, this is the perfect way for you to meet some DISers!!!! The more, the merrier!!

I will be hanging out with Disers here and there and everywhere, but, of coarse, my main focus is on MY FAMILY....and making some good memories for them so that when these last 2 kids of mine hit that "Im too good to have to follow your rules" age...I can throw THIS in their faces!!!! ;)

And also.....there may be others on here traveling solo....get together and share a cabin to save money!! Because Carols right...the rates are based on 2 passengers per cabin....roommate up with someone!!!
