9/16/2017 Magic Transatlantic from Barcelona

EDIT: btw, I think the only reason it got sorted in the end was because I had already called them 4 times before they accepted the change by the airline. I pointed out that they never should have accepted it after 4 calls. I'm just so happy I spotted the change when I did, I guess otherwise I would have gotten the email about the change yesterday and they would never have changed us back if I hadn't called before.

Glad you wrote a complaint! As said even if they ignore it at least its done and your reviews are expressed. Plus the review you did online is there forever lol

We do not have any group meets arranged here. I did one once years ago, and I felt it to be more awkward than just randomly meeting someone and chatting. I do not belong to the very large group that exists in other social media, but I believe some people in this thread do. Although I do not use my picture in my avatar, I did do an ABD trip report where I included pictures. My hair is a bit longer now, but you can at least put a face with a name should you see me wandering around.

Trust me I am rubbish with faces and even worse with names so rarely spot if someone is in one of the groups or not. I enjoyed having lanyards on previous cruises as at least it gave you a heads up that its one of the people you were chatting to. As this group has been so quiet I didn't bother suggesting it and it didn't come up on the other group either.

No dizziness and headache for me, but when I hold my anger I tend to cry, which I didn't want to do at work, especially over a plane ticket, so I hold it back the entire day and yes, I was exhausted after. I canceled my plans for the evening because I knew I wouldn't be a really nice or fun person to be around.

This is me too! i hate getting angry and I just cry and then people think I'm weak because I can't put my point across properly.

I think I'm just going to include the name the postcard is addressed to, my name (and/or avatar info) and cabin #? I don't want to write a ton all over the postcard. But currently, still not packed and looking more like I will be spending my layover hours (I have 2 really long layovers, a 5-hr in Oakland, and a 6-hr in London, all on top of a 10-hr flight )!!

Mine just have a business card attached with my details on. I've done a London postcard (all I've managed to find as the library is still not open) and some photos of my town.

Slowly getting everything together, printed off all my documents I think I might need today, started packing yesterday. Printed off the postcard exchange cabins for this group. Trip will be getting here really soon. We head out of town next Monday, though we will be in airports for a long time. We leave from Dulles Airport Tuesday morning to fly to JFK, which we don't fly out of JFK till Tuesday night, stopover in Lisbon (really long) so we bought their lounge access, and then don't get into Barcelona until 11:45 pm on Wednesday night. That at least will give us Thursday and Friday to look around Barcelona a bit and just get refreshed a little. Just need to finish up my packing, getting my FE gifts finalized and still haven't gotten all my postcards yet.

I've printed everything I think so I'm ready to go. Need to complete my Canadian Customs form and that's it.

It actually already helped me sometimes too. I was a representative for my sport club in university and the sports facility counted on the representatives to change every year. We were really small, so we didn't. During my second year they flat out lied about the deals made the year before, saying if you didn't know, you had a bad conveyance. I was so so angry, I sad there in our meeting crying. They immediately backed down.

lol! Well I haven't managed to use it to my advantage yet but sounds like it can be :D

Are any of you leaving from Florida or any Gulf states? My thoughts are with you as Hurricane Irma might head your way. It sounds like a monster and I am hoping maybe it breaks up or slows down once it gets toward the states.

I might have just made this easier for everyone. I am now the proud wearer of a lovely gray walking boot. I did something to my left ankle (which already had issues) at the gym a couple of weeks ago, and it didn't get better. I finally saw the specialist yesterday and told him I was going on vacation next week, and he slapped a boot on me. I do not have to wear it all of the time...yet. I'm supposed to have an MRI before I go away to see if there is any tendon damage or it's simply inflammation.

Was a bit disappointing how quite this group is in comparison to my first TA cruise many years ago. We had the lanyards made up, we all set up to wear certain color shirts on certain days, we took a huge group photo one day with us all in red. My first introduction to the FE groups. Though the other site group is a bit more active, so I have my FE groups there and some group events. I too am terrible with names, though I am also extremely quite and not a very out going individual. I do some of these just to sort of force myself a bit to meet some other people. I am doing a Palo Group brunch which will be a first for me so hoping it all goes well.

I have to say I am getting terribly excited and just oh so reach to go.

Although I'm not in Florida I am dog sitting for my sister who is! She is meant to fly out Saturday (so far they've been told to just see what happens) in order to relieve me of the dog. I have no idea what happens if she doesn't make it back as the back up dog sitter (my parents) fly to Hong Kong on Tuesday so they are no good either!

Oh dear! Hope you aren't in too much pain! And glad you can at least still go.

I agree about the group thing. Slightly sad it wasn't more active over here as I love Dis!

Well, we can call for an informal meet on embarkation day. We've attended a few the Promenade lounge. Of course, I don't have a clue when the muster drill is. Do people think 3 PM might work?

The other one is around that time mind in Fathoms so I can try but not 100% sure I will make it. Also currently may not even make it if my sister doesn't get back!

I tried my best, but I think the majority were using FB and that seems to be the way it is nowadays. I prefer to be on here -- less confusing and more direct ;).

Trust me it definitely wasn't your fault! I think other sites have killed Dis to be honest.

Hopefully only to a point. Up until last year I saw a lot of people flooding to FB and setting up their own sites for cruises and events. But this year I am hearing of more and more friends and co-workers who are tired of it and don't use it anymore. :confused3 I much prefer boards like this because I find the navigation easier to find topics and subjects and the postings easier to follow. :surfweb:

Doesn't she have neighbors that could walk the dog? It hopefully wouldn't be more then a few days, if even more then one. Maybe they could make a pool do split the effort? It's not ideal, but neither is you missing the cruise!
Or worse case scenario, board the dog with the vet? I can't imagine being out all that money and missing your cruise :worried:. Hope it doesn't come to that though.

Sadly, yes! Instead of trying to finish packing for our cruise, we are preparing our home so we can evacuate tomorrow. We live on the east coast of Florida...across the street from the beach. We hope and pray we are spared and still able to make the cruise. It's a bit overwhelming for sure:sad:

So British culture wise I think her neighbours would think this was insane. They get annoyed taking in parcels so I can't ask them.

I hope this is the case. It is quite upsetting that Dis just disappears

Her vets doesn't have kennels and its getting too and from thats the biggest issue as I don't drive and her vets is about 20 mins away in a car.

On a good note - my sisters flight has now been adjusted to leave at 4:30pm so we think she might make it back before the storm hits! In which case everything is all good. I also have a plan B in that a friend has agreed to drive me to a kennels if I can find one so today the plan is to find one that will let me book just in case from Wednesday.

Hope you are safe! This is such a weird situation to be in but I hope that you get through safely. Thoughts and prayers with you! Puts my sisters dog into perspective.

That's too bad! My boyfriends dog lives with his parents, because we don't really have room for a Labrador. We watched him when they were on holiday, but my father in law literally knows all the dogs and their owners in a 5 block radius around their house (sometimes he only knows the dogs name ;)) and I know several would be willing to walk him if it was needed. I never thought the British culture would be so different in that aspect. BTW, when I told my boyfriend about your problem, he asked where you lived, because he knows several people (in the Netherlands...) who would be willing to take a dog in for a few days.

I've had my neighbours refuse to take in a DVD sized parcel for me because according to the post man they "couldn't be bothered". Honestly we are quite unhelpful people I find lol Maybe its just my town but most I still don't know the name of one of my neighbours in my block as they barely say hello to me. People seem to be very unhelpful around my area (South Wales) so its very difficult. Doesn't help all the people I know who would take her are on holiday either now or about to leave so didn't want to commit to it! At least my hope now is that things are sorted. Her flight should get out if nothing weird happens in the next day like Irma speeds up!

I'm looking for advice from people who have debarked at the Manhattan cruise terminal.

We're taking a town car service home. I set up a pickup time of 10:30, because I didn't want to take a chance on being late.

Now I'm wondering if we'll be standing around for an hour with our luggage because DCL will throw us off the ship at 9, and it won't take that long to find our luggage and go through customs/immigration.

What do you think>

Thanks.

Kathy
