    The language thread

Interesting topic! I'm guessing a lot of us speak primarily English.

    The Golden Wedding

Weird. They sat there saying "stay in it" etc. but ditched out after 3 months? If they supposedly still love and respect each other why wouldn't they stay in it for longer. "We can't decide where to live, so we're going to divorce." Seriously? They expect us to buy that? Apparently their...

An adult threatened my 6 year old

I don't think anyone is advocating for that. Everyone here has said that it's not okay and the OP was right to report it. The difference of opinions is whether the response she received from the owner was inadequate.

An adult threatened my 6 year old

I think "when the manager gets back" could reasonably be "immediately." The manager could have been on a 15 minute break. I don't see that as a lie. They did not state, and probably cannot state what her consequences or retraining were.

An adult threatened my 6 year old

I was on your side until I read the response you received. I think they handled that reasonably. They acknowledged, apologized, stated how they plan to keep it from happening again, offered an incentive to return, and invited you to contact them further if needed. It was a pretty good...

Retired & No Desire to Travel....?

The whole point of retirement is to spend your days the way you WANT to! I retired early to take care of elderly parents and I after 5+ difficult years of "retirement" traveling back and forth to another state to help three parents, I'm now down to one parent who lives in a memory care facility...

    Pi Day Poll

I picked other. Since we're retired and no longer have kids at home, we don't generally acknowledge it. However, today I used it as an excuse to get a Crumbl cookie (Boston Creme Pie variety) and we'll split it after dinner. It was always a big deal at school when I taught, especially with...

my unpopular opinion: the iPhone is overrated

I use Samsung and my kids have been trying to get me to switch to Apple for years. I don't get why?

    Buying new carry-on luggage...

If your person item and coat only take up 10 inches of width of the space, I have no problem with that. I was talking about people who put all of the above - which I've seen many people do.

    Buying new carry-on luggage...

For those of you who are looking for a place to donate old luggage, our local Salvation Army is collecting anything with wheels right now. I've almost always traveled carry on only too, but I definitely follow all the rules. It drives me crazy when I have to check bags because people have put...

    Buying new carry-on luggage...

We're flying the lowest economy level on Lufthansa, which seems to have stricter carryon requirements than we've ever seen before. Our old luggage is now too heavy and slightly too big. We are buying new luggage that better fits the requirements because that's cheaper than checking a bag. My...

OPINION? Princess vs NCL for Alaska.

We really enjoyed the NCL Bliss. We saw Jersey Boys, Six, and several shows done by a Beatles cover band. We never had to dress up, and the big observation lounge was great.

How much autonomy should an 18 year old home from college have?

I agree, but I'll add more to the respectful roommate scenario. Respectful roommates adhere to basic "rules of the house" in terms of cleanliness, behavioral expectations, etc. so while there aren't "rules" there are definite expectations. Roommates generally agree on those expectations...

Speaking of Airline Etiquette - a story from last week

Of course we "judge" people when they are impinging on our space. Honestly, I'd think something was wrong with someone if they didn't.

    What’s for Dinner Tonight?

Nothing fancy here - but a favorite meal. Hamburgers on the grill, frozen French fries and some grapes. Shall I place bets on how many minutes it takes until DH says "this is way better than fast food?" He says it every time.

How long was your (family, friends, whoever) engagement

We dated for almost a year before getting engaged then married 6 months later, so we knew each other for about a year and a half. We didn't live together. We've been married almost 34 years. If I had been younger we might have taken it slower, but I was 29 when we married. I think people...

Does your mother in law like your cooking?

My MIL and I exchanged cooking ideas sometimes. I enjoyed her cooking and I think she enjoyed mine. We were not so far apart in the way we cooked except for I cook a little more of a healthy balance and she was more old-fashioned in a sort of country cooking way. She fried things, I didn't...

    Most Hated Foods

This is the first one of these things I've seen that I actually agree with for my state. I'm not a coffee person, but K cups are definitely the kind of thing a lot of people sort of pretend to "hate" for the waste and quality. Then people end up using them anyway for convenience. It's kind of...

S/O of What household chore do dread the most? thread. Do you have a cleaning person?

In general I'm too cheap and I have the time so I don't have an excuse. I always said I would hire one during the years I had kids at home and worked full time, but I never had the nerve. If I had a personal recommendation from someone I probably would have done it, but it's hard to call a...
