I love credit cards so much!

But even mid-June which is high season for both there's a huge difference. 6/15 Eastern (Fantasy) in a 7A had opening day pricing of $2,900/person. 6/17 Alaskan (Wonder) had opening day pricing of $4,250/person. I don't see any examples from June - August where Alaska isn't significantly more than the Caribbean.
I guess I only looked at May where there’s little difference. But later season seems to be a bigger difference.

Every Friday I go to PNC and deposit MO’s and the same banker trys to sell me their credit card. Every time I make up an excuse. Today he asked if I started building my credit yet LOL He then asked how with a secured card? LOL I was just like no I have the Chase Sapphire Reserve.
Did his eyes bug out? Or maybe he has no idea CSR is a Premium Card. Lol

I was wondering how long it takes to transfer points from SPG to Marriott? Also, is there any restrictions as to how many times you can transfer? Continuing on my nights/flights quest :goodvibes

My SPG biz stmt closed on the 18th, and I see the points in my SPG account today. So far no double points on my SPG points purchase, but luckily I gave myself enough buffer that I'm ok if I don't get them. Hoping they'll post in a few days though. The next step is waiting for my Marriott biz stmt to close and receiving my 75k point bonus and my base spend. I met the MSR several days ago so hopefully (fingers crossed) there isn't a delay in receiving the bonus. Hopefully I'll just squeak by in time to buy the N/F before 8/1.

The SPG to Marriott transfer should be instantaneous I believe. As long as both accounts are yours. But. be prepared for your Marriott points not to post in time. I just had the regular Marriott card, not the biz, so may be different. But I completed my spend on the 10th, my card closed on the 16th and I did not get my bonus points until the following month on the 19th, so 5 weeks from when I met my spend. I agree the SPG bonus points posted quickly. I think the difference is Amex vs visa and not spg vs Marriott, but I could be wrong. Good luck to you though!

I don't have much advice but SPG lurker struck again, and still suggests attaching it to a reservation

He could be genuinely out for your best interest or he could be pushing it cuz it's easier for the program to not have to deal with them after (for the better or worse). This time he makes a distinction between "pre-defined category" certs and "floater" certs. So I'm now not sure what a floater cert is? I thought that meant an in general way to describe anything not already attached. But there must be something else out there. Are the pre-defined category certs just the one night freebies and the travel certs are the floaters? Possibly. If so I don't think that bodes well for the "equivalent points" for a N&F since his words are "to maximize their usage" by attaching them before the merger.

I haven't jumped over to the FT thread to read the full conversation before and after that comment, just what was on reddit.
Thanks so much for the link. I've seen some of SPG lurker's posts before. I'm confused, too, about the distinction he seems to be making. I'll see if I can follow the FlyerTalk thread and see what others are thinking. I'd rather not attach it just in case i don't have to, but I also don't want points back that will only get me a few nights. Probably safest to attach, but that means another phone call LOL.

Nope, I can not pay monthly fee with card. I just found this:

The method in which members are able to pay for their monthly membership varies by location, but many Planet Fitness clubs accept payment through checking accounts only. We require an Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) through checking accounts for your convenience: This allows us to be able to continue your membership without interruption or the hassle of updating your payment information if your credit cards are lost/stolen, invalid or expired.

So I guess it is location specific.

Planet Fitness is all bank withdrawal now, so far as I know. We got notice late last year/earlier this year(?) that it'd need to be changed so hubby tried to give them his debit card and they said no, had to set up with routing and checking #. He said no back and we're just waiting for them to stop the CC charge. The guy said they were going to stop in a few months but AFAIK the CC's still being charged. We're taking that 10 cents all the way to the bank
(our location is not the most reliable, management changes constantly and they outright stole money from me. but since it's so cheap it would have cost me way more to pursue it than just put them on my sh*t list. unfortunately they're stupidly close and hubby needs certain machines that i'm not putting in my house, so he stuck with them and is just riding it out until they cut off the CC. then we'll try a new company)

Interesting. Mine has a sign up that says put a card on file and you get something. I've been meaning to ask about it. Ours has been open a year and for the most part I recognize the people when I go in, the manager is the same. When I was at LA Fitness which is a block down the street, people would be there and you'd build a bit of familiarity and then they'd be gone. They also had some that weren't the most professional. One of their trainers had yelling phone conversations with her bf in the lockeroom more than once. I'll ask when I go in on Monday and see what they say about the card on file.

We just opened a Heloc. I am very concerned about it affecting our ability to get new cards. We did both get a new card right after closing on it, my CIP and my DH got the new Hyatt, but I think the Heloc had not hit our credit reports yet at that time, so I am glad we got them when we did. Don't have plans to open a new card until Decemberish when I was hoping to get the SW card and a business SW. Hoping it will be OK to open then.

I just got a home equity loan. Not a HELOC as I can't stand the variable interest. I get on Credit Wise every week and check and the home equity loan is on there and counts under the 5/24. I am done with Chase so it is okay for me, but it is clearly being counted.

For the record I don't have any N&F certs (or anywhere near enough points to redeem for one), so I'm very much a neutral observer. But my interpretation of both this comment and another in the past from the same user is that you will be much better off redeeming your cert now, because post-merger it's not likely to be in your favor. The merger is more or less a devaluation across the board (for the most part), so why would these very valuable certs be any different?

So going to be closing my SW in the next week or so...

But I applied for the Ink Business Unlimited last Thursday got the 30 day notice. And couldn't wait so I called their status line the next day...yep Friday the 13th...But I did find out I was approved :flower1: And got the card today  Now I can pay my insurance utility bills and a few other things...

I think I'll let this be my last business card with Chase...

CONGRATS!!! :woohoo:party::woohoo:

My thinking is that it isn’t good business practice to take my 7 night free stay cert that I earned with my points and you just “sold” me a few weeks ago away, and give me, say, 3 nights (for example) of points for it. That said businesses don’t always make very good decisions (looking at you target). I may end up attaching it to a ressie but I don’t know what to use it for.

Welp with my bad back saga I've missed so much this week. 1) My new chair arrived today and I'm sitting in it now. 2) I went to a chiropractor for the first time. I'm still a skeptic but I swear he did help me. 3) I went to an MD too 4) I have a L5 bulge, plus my piriformis syndrome is flaring.

So it's been real.

Now I'm trying to catch up and I see this shiny new Southwest card. The AF seems high at $149 but the spend is easy to hit since you have a whole year to hit the big hunk ($15k).

I wish we knew more about the Hawaii routes. I have to believe more info on those is coming soon since this card was just dropped.

Thanks for the feedback. I met the spend approx. 2 wks before my stmt closes, hopefully I'll get the bonus this month. If not I guess it just isn't meant to be. I have a few more days to find out.

The potential problem with this scenario is that the upgraded positions are only available at the time of check in at the ticket counter or gate. First come first served. If you are concerned, buy a couple of early birds and save seats (no flames please). With everyone else, check in at exactly 24 hours.

I didn’t see anything in the terms restricting the upgraded boarding to the cardholder. It would seem like a useless benefit if only the cardholder could board.

Also, you don’t get early bird check in with the card. On the day of your flight you go to the front desk agent and pay for the upgraded A1-15 boarding position. That then gets reimbursed. This is better than early bird check in because early bird doesn’t start until the A15 position.

Thanks for the info! We’ve never flown SW before, so I’m not all that familiar with the upgrades/early bird/check in etc. you guys have made it a bit clearer.
I am planning to try for the companion pass for 2019/2020 to use on our April 2020 WDW trip (by getting both the business and a personal card).
Looks like I’ll be paying for early bird check in because I don’t want to chance not sitting together.

Well DH doesnt really listen, I told him he should try to push picking up his vehicle until Monday if they called.... but of course, he told them he could come Saturday. And I'm out of town.... so I'm going to try and convince him to take my Hilton biz if it came. If not, I'm choosing between 1700 SPG, 1700 URs, or $34 credit on Barclay Arrival.

Do we know what's happening with transferring points between spouses with the Starriott merger? All of my SPG spending has just been on my personal to try for a retention offer... otherwise their value was Swolphin to me, and with that change I dont know what to do with them. DH has 1200 points in his account now, but all statements will close in August after the 1st... so I feel like my main advantage of charging that is helping get him near an even 1k number to transfer if that's still allowed. Otherwise maybe I take the straightforward $34 credit.

Not sure what to do. All I really know is it will be annoying to have been so close to using this spend towards an MSR and it not happening :(

Can you transfer a booked cruise reservation to Chase and pay the remaining balance with UR? I thought I had read you can (and I know you can with Disney reservations), but just got a curt SM from a Chase rep saying it wasn't possible and to please call the Travel Center with further travel questions. (I know you're not the Chase Travel Center, but I've got insomnia and I'm pretty sure they're closed at the moment!)

It's also bad business to devalue points especially when some customers have stacks of points they've had for a while, but as we've seen time and again, points are worthless and companies have no issue devaluing them at a whim. Southwest did it not long ago. Marriott is doing it now. Hilton did it last year. Marriott is going to do what's best for Marriott. They've been generous enough by giving people plenty of time to decide what to do with their points and certs. If the time passes and people are still sitting on their certs and points when the devaluation happens, that's just how it goes.

I'm not trying to be harsh. It's just the reality of the situation. I haven't even been churning that long but I've been churning long enough to see several long, rambling posts from others about how unfair it is that their huge stash of points has been devalued overnight and now they don't know what to do with them, especially all the time and money they've spent building them up. At least Marriott is being upfront here by heavily suggesting you should do something with them now instead of sitting on them. If you decide to do nothing in spite of what they're saying, you can't really be upset when they get devalued.

That's my feeling as well. I'm well over 6/24 but have an established relationship with Barclays. I have no doubt that if I call, the rep will see my many accounts and auto-deny. But maybe, just maybe, given I've had a card for several months and I had only 3 TU pulls at the time of application, I'll go through. We'll see. I'm mostly just amused it's taken so long, especially so if I end up denied anyway.

Well hey, this is fun! Got a call from Barclays this morning. They verified some information on my application, asked a question about something on my credit report, cited my existing relationship with the Wyndham card, and approved me! I'm very surprised. I applied at 18/24 with 3 TU pulls (they pulled TU). Application went pending for a full 8 business days.

oh.... also wondering about the csr car insurance when using points for the rental..anyone know?
Sorry still catching up after two weeks of VBS. Yes you can use ur to book and be covered the same as if using the csr Card. You get the same benefits whether you use ur redemption or the card. I called to ask and was told multiple times as I changed the rental many times as the price changed.

I've probably been a low level churner or points collector longer than many of you.

I agree with @striker1064. I've seen the devaluations over and over again.

In order to keep ahead of the game, you have to use the points.

Yesterday my daughter was talking about getting another certificate. I asked what are you going to use it for. No plans. Well actually the plan was to ask to extend it. I said aren't you already planning on extending other certificates? How many do you think they will extend if any? Do you need the miles in the next year two? No. Then you don't need another 7 day certificate. At this time, she's at the time when Marriott points in her account are a better value.

Collecting for a particular goal is great. But, don't be disappointed if suddenly you are only half way to your goal because they've changed the rules. They do it all the time. Earn and burn.
