Restaurant regrets

Tusker House. We *love* the food at Boma, but absolutely did not enjoy dinner at TH. For a family of 5 it was a very expensive meal that hardly anyone in our party enjoyed. Definitely not worth the cost to us. Not sure if we just had an off day, since I‘ve seen very complimentary reviews from folks here.

It was better before it became a character meal only. On our second trip there we noticed a considerable decline in the food.

Art Smith's Homecomin' is ridiculously overrated and overpriced. Been there twice; never again. The service is rushed. Their ubiquitous fried chicken (and the pot roast) is both greasy and bland. Honestly, you can get better fried chicken at Popeye's or some other fast food places.
Thank you! We’ve tried it twice. Didn’t care for it, but thought every place can have an off day. Gave it another shot - nope. Chicken was meh and greasy. I can (and do) make better Mac and cheese. I thought theirs tasted like paste. I was very disappointed because I’d heard so many people rave about it. Very nice servers though!

same, It was very turn and burn when I went there. If you are spending that much you want to hang out and enjoy it a bit. Plus you are seated very close to other people. I also enjoy table linens, the bare tables makes me feel like I am at Applebees.
I’ve enjoyed my food at Le Cellier, but I don’t like how close everyone is. I hate how close the two-person tables are. I hate to get up and slide between the tables because I feel like I’m practically placing my behind on the table next to me. I won’t chose it anymore if there are only two in my group!

Oga's Cantina. I don't know if there was some sort of mistake, but our assigned "spot" was just a space to stand in the middle of the bar - not table or counter. And when we tried migrating over to an area to lean against or sit we were told to move. And even if we did have an assigned area, the drinks weren't that great, it was loud, and honestly just not a fun place have a drink. I rather spend the money on a nicer bar or lounge, or even a better drink somewhere at Epcot where I can stand outside. I think on paper it's a cool idea, but with how busy it is and how many people they try to get in and out it's really worth it.

Our second time there we were stuck right in front of the emergency exit door with maybe a foot of counter space on the side for a party of 7. We did not stay long. I'm glad it wasn't our first time in, as it really was a bummer. The first time (earlier the same week, a party of 4 as my sister's family wasn't there yet) we were put in a booth with multiple other parties and had a nice time.

I don't write off a lot of restaurants at Disney because they are soooo different from trip to trip. But there are a couple-

Whispering Canyon/50's- the waiter shenanigans and "Fun" they bring along with them are not my bag, so I just leave them to the people that are into that.

Morimotos- I was really looking forward to eating here, but the food was terrible and the service was worse than terrible. they told us when we ordered that all our food would come out at different times. So it was hard to tell if something was missing or if it was forgotten. we ended up with several wrong items, and the manager who was "making it right" was a complete jerk. I'd have forgiven a lot of hat if the food was great, but it was so gross.

Yachtsman- the best thing here was the bread basket. At a steakhouse. It wasn't bad enough to complain, but Shulas is a 5 minute walk, so why stop here?

We didn't really enjoy Tusker House either. My vegan son liked that there were lots of options for him, but it was just ok for the rest of us, and it's expensive.

I think a lot of disappointment could be eased if you go in knowing these things: Disney dining is always overpriced. Sometimes places get too busy, esp at peak attendance times. Sometimes servers aren't great. Sometimes a dish is just not good.

Also know that: You can complain. You can ask to see a manager. You can ask for something to be taken off the bill. If your total experience sucked, you can ask GS to be reimbursed.

I have had lots of average dining experiences at Disney restaurants, lots of good, many great, and a handful or less, terrible. Everyone will have a terrible experience at one time or another, if you go enough times, even at dining favorites. I appreciate the need to vent but I don't think anyone can make a good decision by using these incidents to plan their ADRs. Your favorite is bound to be mentioned sometime.

If you read lots of reviews, and know what to expect going in, you can minimize, but not eliminate risk. If your experience is a complete failure, get your money back. In that case, they don't deserve your hard-earned dollars.

The Plaza in MK, December 2019. Absurdly crowded, food only average but expensive, and toilets outside and across the… well, plaza I suppose, technically in Tomorrowland. I mean, really?

Agreed! We had lunch there around that same time. We were seated in the smaller room, and there was one other family in there at the time, but it had obviously been full, because every table was full of dirty dishes, including a million glasses with the remains of milkshake refills in them (they had bottomless shakes at the time, not sure if they still do or not). None of those tables got cleared the whole time we were there, which really made for a depressing atmosphere. The food was not great, neither was the service. We haven't wanted to go back since.

I love reading these kind of lists! We make it a goal of us ours on each trip to try new places. Every now and then we revisit one.
I can't say that we've ever walked away from a meal saying "this is the worst ever!" however we have visited ‎Morimoto twice/three times now and are just unimpressed by it.

The only restaurant I remember really not liking and will never do again was 50s Prime Time Cafe. I recall the food being pretty good, and the 50s atmosphere was fun. It was the razzing of the wait staff that really got to me. My "cousin" was riding me pretty hard and quite frankly being insulting. My mom swore that he was flirting with me (I was 19 and still pretty cute:rotfl2:). But it got to me so much that I actually started to cry... Super embarrassing! I just don't think I would bother trying it again.
When I tell you we have been turned off by that factor of the restaurant (even though you can apparently request to not sit at a table where you will be "reprimanded") is why we never want to eat there.

I know we are all different and have different tastes but we’re there any restaurants you tried that you regretted spending the money on afterwards? Or any that you caution others to steer clear of?
One of the worst meals I've had on Disney property was at Mama Melrose's in Hollywood Studios. It's basically the stereotypical bad Italian food with tacky decor. Even the water had a funny taste to it...would not recommend.

YES on T-Rex..my God it was bad. SO overpriced, and our drinks didn't even show up until the end of the meal. It was beyond horrible trying to flag down the waitress. Never, ever again.

I'll add to my own post... Another place we found disappointing was on this last trip, Polite Pig.
I may be a hard critic on this one.. I live in rural america, we know how to bbq. It was NOT good. We found the meat to be VERY salty and the sauce offerings were watery and lackluster. :crazy2::crazy2:

This was our experience too... We tried a few times using the Deluxe Dining Plan (so had appetizers, entrees and desserts each time) and once on my own. The food was terrible and the service even worse everytime.

DH & I went to Oga's Cantina in January of this year and we loved it. Our server was this guy named "Pham," who was phenomenal and you could tell that he loved his job and was stoked to be there. I had that Fuzzy Taun Taun drink that makes your lips go numb and thought it was fun and tasted great. We were "seated" at a standing table, so we had to stand the entire time. Just goes to show that there can be a big variation of people's experiences from one party to another!

In early June when we were at WDW with the kids, we ate at both the Brown Derby and 50's Prime Time Cafe at HS and really liked both of those restaurants. Thought it was a fair value for the price we paid. I'd totally go back to both and am making plans to do so on our next trip!

Big river grill at Boardwalk: our waiter was clearly having a terrible day, took our order, never brought drinks, ordered apps - meal. came out one, by, one and cold. Never saw our waiter again! Manager said he walked off the job, comped our meal and offered to remake the food. We took the money and ran!

Restaurant Marakesh...family visit in 1988 it was amazing...so we decided to try it again in 2013...I told the kids if they hated it, I would buy them burgers in America...it was not good...I’m adventurous so had ordered recommended dish, bland...my brothers dish...bland...out of table of 8...no one liked their food....dessert...tasted like the hand soap in the bathrooms...plus it rained so much the kids decided to skip burgers and just go to bed hungry...what is funny...I still remember that first visit...and would try them again hoping to find that magic again...
