Sister Wives

Meri runs the Lulumon business. Janelle used to work FT but I think now she does real estate. Robin has Sister Wives Closet. And I believe Christine is the true SAHM but she does help with the businesses when she can and when she wants to.

I don't think they are that short on money. Paying 4 empty mortgages and then 4 additional rent payments and a mortgage on land......they aren't broke or short on money. They just waste so much money!!!

i think the money situation is pretty sketchy. my sisterwive's closet website is inactive-sez it's being improved but nothings been posted in a year. the others talk of feeling isolated in their new homes and having to force themselves to get out and interact with people so unless they are doing some kind of very isolating home based business it seems like meri is the only one of the wives currently employed.

as for their finances-there's 4 mortgages/rents on the arizona homes, 4 mortgages on the coyote pass property, 1 mortgage on the b&b, rent on some kind of large space (it was mentioned in the press that the producers in getting permission to film tried to put residents minds at ease saying that allot of the filming would take place in some large space away from the neighborhoods that the browns had rented) and didn't they say in the last season or so that they still own the original utah house they fled from (last season or the season before some of them went there and it was still littered with boxes and furniture and clothes they didn't take with them). and let's not forget-just last spring they were reported as having failed to pay their property taxes on coyote pass.

i agree they waste allot of money, beyond the rent they are always creating reasons for a party with all the decorations and extras, and on a day to day basis it kills me whenever someone on tv (reality or scripted) cries about how short on money they are but goes out to eat constantly (anyone else notice that there was a pile of leftover boxes that they just walked away and left after their 'girls's lunch'?).

if he manages to steamroll them into the giant house i can't imagine how they would swing a bank loan with their existing obligations.

They are a hot mess but I can’t stop watching. When I heard all of the housing payments they make I felt anxiety for them. I couldn’t even imagine!! My stomach turned.

They have to be putting out at least 15k a month (probably more!) on just housing. Not counting utilities and food. Car payments. Insurance.

They do rent out the house in Utah. Or at least they use too. Plus whatever royalties they got from their book which I'm sure are long gone.
I use to understand how they made money but now I have no idea.

Kody "worries" about getting approval for the giant house but he could propose the whole thing as condos and have "his" area be the clubhouse.
Kody “worries” about it to create drama when there’s no weddings, births, or legal action going on. I always roll my eyes when he brings up the giant house. He has talked about it so much before even telling the wives that they probably already know and/or he is majorly playing up the whole thing for the cameras. Even with regard to worrying over the zoning and such. A creative builder can get approval for just about anything. In all likelihood it will be a non-issue unless Flagstaff wants to feign disapproval of their lifestyle in which case it will be majorly blown out of proportion. I love Sister Wives and have watched every episode from the beginning but I hate some of the things they find to make drama out of.

As money conscious as he tries to be you’d think he wouldn’t want this house because of resale. Who’s going to buy that when he decides he wants to move again?? Who would be in the market for a home like that??

For people so worried about the money spent on rent/mortgage, they sure didn't get their houses on the market very fast. You can't sell it if it isn't for sale. With as many people as they have in their family, it shouldn't take more than 2-3 days to finish the last of the moving and paint or do whatever needs done.

Yes!! They are the most unprepared bunch!

On moving day no ones home was fully packed up. They still had drapes hanging, pictures on walls, etc. As much as they move they should have it down to a science. Or hire movers!

I moved a lot as a kid and when we moved, we moved COMPLETELY out that day. The place was empty. You just had to come back to clean up.

I just moved in June. I was buying a new home so I packed over a stretch of 3-4 weeks. Everything was packed and what we weren’t taking was in the trash. We moved out and into my new home in 4 hours. It took me 2 days to unpack and hang drapes and decorate. I don’t know how they live so unorganized. Especially with so many kids. Put them to work!

This is very true. Resale on this type of home is going to be a struggle, unless you could make it into apartments and get approval to have this in a residential area.

I have to say I love the show as well. It's addictive. They are so easy to criticize. I really don't get how they proclaim to want one big family, but have so many issues sharing one husband. It's like they don't want to admit he sleeps with the other wives. And in Meri's case, he doesn't. And I don't think that's likely to change. He's just not that into her....LOL! And the whole catfish thing, come on. She was emotionally unfaithful, and was keeping it up in spite of her daughter warning her about it. She's got emotional issues. Always a victim.

Meri has such a victim mentality! I feel like the other wives are much better at taking responsibility for their actions. Like Janelle’s weight, Christine’s jealousy, etc. they own it. They’re like “this is MY problem,” Meri is always blaming everyone and anyone for her stuff.

Or when she does apologize she gets huffy and passive-aggressive. And if anyone disagrees with her at all it’s an attack. For someone who “needs independence and alone time,” she seems the most emotionally needy and clingy. I was so proud when Christine told her “you bring a black cloud with you wherever you go.” So true!

She seems very smart and if she would just listen to others instead of constantly fighting against every little thing (although outside of the family she’s weirdly submissive like with the catfish and her Flagstaff neighbors), she could really have some emotional growth.

I agree. Kody just isn’t into Meri anymore. He got his new young hot wife and Meri became old news.

i wonder if the whole idea is a pipe dream given the properties they bought. i don't know how it works where they bought but around my rural area there are strict regulations on how many bedrooms/bathrooms can be on a single 'lot'. a 'lot' can vary in acreage but just b/c someone buys adjacent lots doesn't mean they can take all the allotted bedrooms/bathrooms add them together and build one super house. we also can't build on lot lines even if you own adjacent properties-it has to be on one of the lots period, and that house has to be a single family home, not a multi family dwelling.

when he was first buying the land and made the comment that one of the costs of building would be on them to connect to the utilities where they currently ended (acres and acres away) and it 'won't cost that much' dh and i nearly died laughing. we've had neighbors pay tens of thousands to hook up a fraction of that distance.

you can pay an architect to design anything. they don't look at the zoning, the easements, the costs of construction. they just design what you ask them to do.

I remember them talking about getting approved for that many kitchens. I don’t think one big house is going to happen.

Even if they build this new house Cody will convince them to sell and chase another one of his dreams shortly after. It seemed to me Meri was extremely hurt over the divorce from her to marry Robin. I think she can’t get over it. She at least had that ‘over’ the other wives, now she has nothing and that doesn’t help an already insecure person

I agree. That was the beginning to the end. Now she’s the divorced one who only produced one kid and had an emotional affair. I think Kody wants her to go.

And Meri is the one that encouraged him to court Robyn. It must really sting.
