Asked about child's age.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of people that lie about their kids age to save money. I had a coworker do this- he didn’t think twice or feel bad about lying at all- just said “those tickets are expensive”. From a parenting perspective, I just wouldn’t lie/coach my child to lie to save money because of the poor example it sets. However, it does not surprise me that they inquire on older looking kids.

But wdw shouldn’t assume ppl are lying. I find that insulting. And how do they propose they would be able to prove ppl are lying anyway? There are just going to have to deal with a certain percentage of the population who will do that.

My DS is tall also and was asked about his age the last time we went to Disney. He was three weeks away from turning 3 and was about 39 inches. I brought his birth certificate. I didn’t need to show it, but was questioned. They also asked him his age and he told them each time he was 2. The CM’s were all shocked when they told him.

My daughter was a month from her 3rd birthday when we went last year. She's quite tall for her age as well and we did get asked "does she have a ticket" a couple of times. We told them she was two, and moved on. No one ever asked for proof of age or questioned my answer. They just nodded and waved her through. I was nervous about it too before arriving too. I actually took a picture of her birth certificate to have proof if they asked!

We know a family that did the same thing. They thought nothing of teaching their kids to lie about their age so that they could squeeze more people in a room and not have to buy additional tickets.

We were asked several times about my older child's age, especially when at restaurants. To be fair, she is a month shy of 10, so we sort of expected it and weren't offended. She's a tall girl also.
Since we have always used her same date of birth when purchasing vacation packages, it would't take much for them to look into their system and realize we are honest.

I agree. It's not worth it! Advertise songs. Let it go......let it go

Lol. Galaxy edge has sensors built into the pavement that will help determine the amount of weight you're placing on the pavement. The goal someday is to charge a PSI tax on your credit card as disney is going cashless in 2024 completely.

What's a PSI tax?

LOL! Imagine, people having to pay by the amount of space they take up :jester::rotfl2: I'd be telling my husband he'd have to stay home. Now, DD would be practically free!

We just left WDW :( Had a great trip, but this trip we had CM's ask about my DD1 age four separate times when entering the park. No big deal, she did not have a ticket, I didn't mind at all telling them she is 1. It was really odd though going into MK on our second to last day.....the CM asked me if DD1 could get out of the stroller at magic bands scan. I told him she is 20 months.....just really odd. I got her out of the stroller and he called his supervisor over, asked her a question ( that I couldn't hear.) Then she said....they are fine.....and we were let into the park. DD1 is 36 inches, yes she is very tall, but I found this really odd. My question, should I bring her birth certificate along on our November trip, I do not have a ticket for her because she will just have turned 2. I don't want any problems there, but don't necessarily want to carry her bc around everywhere either.Any suggestions?Thank you!!

The fact that it happened multiple times says to me there is something about your daughter, maybe an old soul like my DD was, that makes her appear older, not just taller. If you did follow up with she "is 1" I could see some CMs, especially since some are young or retired to question that she was actually 1 .... I would have responded "20 months". Kids change so quickly that there is a big difference from month to month. As long as your kid is free, I would always state their month age.

I just got back from a week there. I traveled just my one DS who doesn't talk so I spend lots of time taking in the scenery and what's going on around me .... I noticed multiple times that guests were told to remove their kids from the stroller. I saw a few times they asked kids age and asked them if they had a ticket. I saw quite a few times that kids were not scanning correctly and they were pulled over to the side while another CM came in with an iPad to check their ticket and photograph them. My guess is that Disney is trying to get a handle on all these 3 year old kids coming in without tickets.

I say to parents of young ones ... don't take it personal, be prepared to answer questions and get them out to stand ..... the last thing anyone wants is Disney to institute a Toddler Ticket if they think too many are not buying tickets for older toddlers.

Wow, I'm really shocked. We've taken many many trips with extended family and many times have had 2 year olds and have never been asked. I'm sorry you had such a rude CM.
my young grandkids have been asked many times how old are you esp buffets/character meals and it was always the child that was asked even if parent answered the CM waited for child to answer

And how does that end?? I say he’s 35 mos, they said they don’t believe me & then what??? That’s just absurd to me. You don’t interrogate guests without proof.

If your child is under the proper age and you answer their proper age without getting upset I am sure it will end just fine. When my kids got close to that age (yeah we snuck in that extra trip of them going for free) and we were asked how old, I told them. No problems. If I were worried because my child appeared and acted much older, I'd carry a copy of birth certificate.

Maybe I missed it here and I've never read it elsewhere that someone with a legitimate "free" kid was ever told they didn't believe them after they stated their age.

It's not absurd if Disney feels they have a problem with guests "basically stealing" .... it's why they instituted finger scans on tickets ..... it's one reason they added MB and tied so much to it, to keep the guests from packing rooms with too many people .... it's why they added gates with MB scanners to get in to the pool so that day guests or hoppers don't use .... I will add my week there that to get into parking lots and get my shopping discounts every CM scanned my MB and checked my ID to match.

Innocent people have no reason to get upset.

I had absolutely no problem answering how old she was:) I feel like the CM's job is to ask, if they are questioning it. If they had asked my DD, she wouldn't have answered, she is honestly too young to know ' how many fingers' to hold up etc. She will have just turned 2 on our November trip....we are working on counting, colors etc now....but who knows if she would answer the CM if asked. I never mind being asked. Oddly enough, we were never asked at buffets, maybe because her age is in MDE. I have decided to take a picture of her B.C. just in case, I think I'll leave it at that :)

Lol. May not be so funny in 10 years because it's possible. Airlines may start doing it sooner than you think. Ticket based on your weight and added to your carry on luggage

How strange. I just can't believe (not saying I don't believe you; I'm sure it did happen, I just have had such the opposite experience many many times.)in over 15 years of going to WDW, many times multiple times/year, doing countless park entries, character buffets, regular dining etc. that we've never once run into this and it seems multiple others have. We have kids 17 down to 3 at this point in our group that goes and not one of us have ever had that type of experience anywhere on property. We've had a few CMs who have talked to our little ones and asked their age, like what is common when just out and about, but this is usually while we're waiting to merge at a fastpass point, in a store or at our resort. We've never had it happen to enter a park or at meals. - Honestly most times the majority of the kids aren't even with me when I check in they're out of the way with other's from our party and the host just asks how many kids/their ages since Disney kids/adult is different than most and that's that; they've never asked to see the kids or asked to speak with them and I think I'd be pretty offended if they did/implied that I was lying. So odd.

I have always had 2 or 3 either close but under 3 or close but under 10 on many trips seems like only time not asked until payment time was Rain Forest Café and had one who looked under 10 but was 11. we were on dining plan and not caught until time to pay. manger fixed it. that was only meal he was not asked at beginning of meal that trip. was also asked about his 18 month old brother most places. we were a party of 14 that trip. was not at check in most times but the server who asked. one that trip was 4 months old and was often missed when they counted us going to be seated as they wanted everyone there. if I remember right Rain Forest was only nonprefixed or age based priced meal so that could be why they were asked
