Security check & metal detectors

I must look dangerous, in a 55 yo grandma kinda way. I'm picked at least half the time they are doing random picking.
DH is for sure not picked more than me.

I'm a 55 year old grandma, too. LOL I'm guessing it's your non-traditional hair color. :tilt: I have traditional brown hair, that would be gray if I let it have it's way.

wish I was as lucky have metal in my hand and set off detectors all the time
My two knees have set off every single metal detector I have passed through. I find it rather embarrassing to stand there with my arms up and them wanding me. Even when I am wearing shorts and they can see the long scars on my knees.

This is so interesting. My son has an entire leg of titanium and he only sets off some of them. I never get put through the detectors but going to force it on them next trip so I can see if my new knees set it off. I only have one so far, that I got last month, but will have both before we go back to Disney. First time I've ever had any new parts, so I'm kind of excited about seeing how they interact with detectors. I'm sure if I have to do it regularly, it will quickly lose it's appeal.

My mother doesn't like to carry stuff in her pockets, and on busy days to avoid the bag check line she has a small fanny pack that she can stuff in a pocket. Once she gets through security she transfers her phone, wallet, and water bottle to the fanny pack.

As many other have said, even if you do have to go through bag check it's only a few minutes extra. The real delay comes from getting in line at a park entrance behind someone who has trouble with the magic band / fingerprint scanning concept.

My experiences trying to get cups of water from QS restaurants is that its either a long wait to ask for a cup or its extremly crowded and you can't get near the counter without waiting.

Yeah, with the amount of water some people drink, quick service locations is not a viable option.

My mom's two knees set off the detectors most of the time too. My dad's singular knee does not.

If you’re carrying say a bottle of water only with phone in pocket, is that bag check or not?

And with your own wheelchair, assuming not even a bottle of water, is that bag check, guaranteed wanding...?

During our most recent trip in the beginning of April, my dad was never wanded and was allowed straight through the no-bag line. He had an umbrella or cane and a water bottle on his motorized wheelchair, that's it.

If you don't have a bag, you go in the no bag line. Even if it's a stroller or a wheelchair.
Disney hasn't reached the "guaranteed wanding" stage yet.

Embarrassing is the bra setting it off

Why? It's unlimited. You can always fill your own bottle with their water. Even fill up a camelback
So it's not like you have to stop every 5 min

When I was there end of March/beginning of April the quick service locations had coolers with ice water on the counters with small cups ready and signage stating NOT to fillup water bottles there. I would just wait in line and ask for a large ice water.

Filling a bottle or having a camelback means having a bag/backpak (unless you carry a bottle in another manner). Not having a backpack or camelback and stopping at quick service locations every time you want water is not viable. The backpack is a method that alot of people find the most convenient to carry 20oz+ btls of water. Where they fill the bottle from isn't what I am talking about (quick service locations, water fountains, bathrooms, etc) but rather the decision to skip the bag and water bottle (as the PP suggested) because water can be received on demand at quick service locations.

I set off the detector with a single bobby pin in my pocket that I didn't realize was in there. I beep, check pockets, nothing, beep, check again, beep, finally they said maybe it's your watch and they let me though. About an hour later, I put something in my pocket and when retrieving it, I found a single bobby pin.

I have a titanium jaw and pins in my nose but I haven't set off the metal detectors at disney yet.... I do wonder every time i go through what it would be like to have my face wanded though....

I still don't see why it's not viable, especially when there are also water fountains around everywhere. But I don't typically drink water constantly.

They have these awesome lanyards that hold bottles of water now. Easy to carry most any kind and no bag

I wasn't talking about using the water coolers.
I was talking about getting a cup and pouring it in your bottle.

You keep saying 'viable' I think you really mean preferable. People all tour differently. What works for one won't work for another. What is deemed a hassle for one isn't a hassle to another.

We barely had to go through metal detectors on our trip two years ago, but last year they definitely enforced it more...which I don’t mind. I actually got the wand one time:rockband:...made me feel like a rebel!! Believe it or not, they keep the lines moving pretty quickly.
