It would probably be a really good idea if posters would edit out the last names of CMs.
Why? Im not saying you're wrong, Im just curious as to why. If they use their full name it written communication regarding a policy its kind of necessary. I mean if you're are debating it with a restaurant manager you cant really say "well the email from cast member Fred said," You would need their last name to legitimize the correspondence as coming from an actual CM

Since this was an official correspondence, I didn't really think it is a issue, but I edited it out anyway. I think the important point is that there is more than one CM on either side of the policy.

It looks like disney is in ther process of putting the wording of not being able to share....
I sent this....
thank you for your response. i know in previous years dining plan literature it was explicitly stated you couldn't. Then the exact wording was reemoved in 2016. this has lead to confusion as to whether it can nowb be shared or not. just a suggestion, but maybe disney should consider placing that statement back in the dining brochures.

The reply was this....
Dear Jennifer,

Thank you for contacting the Walt Disney World® Resort!

You are so correct Jennifer and it is in the works! Now, this is not to say that a Cast Member will not make magic for you, but I want you to know the official policy. Please let me know if you have any further questions. I am here for you.

Have a Magical Day my friend!

Sincerely,

Rainbow

Just tried (an hour ago)to dine at Hollywood and vine and they said we couldn’t because more guests than on deluxe dining plan. manager said talk to guest services at front of park and they had no idea either.
50’s let us share but waitress said there are rumors changing policy in November but how can they stop you from ordering 5 meals for yourself for example if you have the credits? So buffets May cause problems down the road but I am not sure how they will with table service.

But a couple days ago no problem at crystal palace, waitress was thrilled to not split checks.

No problems at Olivia’s, 1900 park fare or grand Floridian cafe either same week.

I wonder...in the past, when I experienced problems using the dining plan and ended up paying cash for a meal, the folks at the front desk at my resort said if I just brought them the receipt, they could apply the dining credits and refund my money. Could this be a workaround for the places at HS giving folks trouble?

i wouldn't expect success with an end-run like this, especially with the seeming crackdown.

Yes i was informed that they would be eventually putting it back in the literature that you cannot share with guests that are not on the dining plan. They were not specific as to when that would happen. It's unfortunate though that places are enforcing it now even though it hasn't been put in public documentation and people are purchasing the dining plan with the expectation of being able to share.

There was at least one recent report of someone who did go to their resort front desk after being denied sharing credits and was told no there as well. They were stuck paying cash for those not on the room reservation.

Potential sharing workaround— tell me if this would work.

For my upcoming trip in March I have the deluxe dining plan for room 1 (2 adults / 2 kids) and no plan for room 2 (2 adults/ kids). We had been planning to use the 12 credits/day to pay for one character meal breakfast/lunch per day (8 credits) plus 1 table service dinner per day (4 credits) for all 8 of us, and just share the 3 courses at dinner.

It sounds like they won’t let me pay for 8 buffets on the 1 reservation that is linked to a 4 person dining plan.

But what if I split the 8 person reservation into 2 groups of 4, and ensure 1 adult who has the meal plan sits at each of the two reservations. Then when the waiter inquires how we will pay, we have them scan the band of the meal plan eligible adult, which will show eligibility for 2 adults/2 kids for each of the parties.

This should work, no? Only issue is that we might not all sit together. But given it’s only a few meals, seems worth the inconvenience to get the cost savings.

Yes, that should work.

Isn’t there someone in charge of the dining plan at Disney that we could call to be sure? I’d like to share some credits but don’t want a hassle at meal time. And by just emailing low level customer service reps seems to get different answers every time.

If I were going in the next few months (actually I am) and were debating sharing credits on the deluxe plan, I would do so without hesitation BUT I would eliminate 50’s prime time and Hollywood and vine if they were in my current plans to dine there. We have shared credits so many times and did again very successfully on our Dec 24-Jan 2 trip. We had ZERO issues at tons of places, including signatures. If it started being heavily enforced we will know it from posts here and all the wording will be changed. As long as those credits are pooled there should be no issues.

This is my plan. Fingers crossed and I will update you all next week!

I also messaged a server at Disney who is in one of my Facebook groups and she told me no problem sharing just to let the server know ahead of time to pull all the credits from the meal off of one band.

You will be fine. Just tell them when they come to scan your band to pull all the credits from “this band”. Don’t ask if it’s ok just make the statement. That’s what we did and had no issues other than 50’s.

I think that anyone being denied using credits to buy a meal for someone might want to write an email do Disney complaining. It was customer backlash that got the statement removed in the first place. Maybe it will help prevent it from being put back on.
