American missionary killed by isolated tribe on remote island in the Indian Ocean

I'd be ridiculing this regardless of the religion (or non religion) he professed. Some of the stories claim he might not have had a religious agenda, but could have simply fancied himself as an adventurer - daring to do things that nobody else did. If he had been planning on this for three years, surely he had heard of projectiles being launched at aircraft and fishermen getting too close to the island being killed.

Sorry but I am just drawing so many parallels between this instance and the immigration crisis we have today. I wonder what all the people who have no sympathy for this dead man think about the issues we have today with illegal aliens. I would love to know. But I will leave it at that!

They really have nothing at all to do with one another but you can continue to derail as you see fit I suppose.

also find it deplorable that he waved money in front of poor fishermen to persuade them to get involved in transporting him. Now they’re facing charges and jail time and they and their families will have their lives turned upside down by this.

Absolutely no one made those people help him. He offered money. He did not hold a gun to their head. They did it willingly. Especially by being locals they should have known that this was not allowed and was a criminal act.

Yeah, it's rather obvious. I just wasn't sure if you'd actually say it.
It's very ironic the same people that see no problem with these people killing this man for illegally entering their island are the same people that are backing the rights of those to enter the US illegally.

Well, the immigrants aren't carrying the Black Plague either, and if they were, I'd certainly have a different opinion. This self centered butthole could have killed the entire tribe. So I don't see the situations as that similar.

How do you know how I feel about people entering the US illegally? You don't. You won't. And you're grasping now.
Funny. Not grasping. I answered your thoughts. Never said any thing about what you might think on that issue. Never crossed my mind. Don't really care.

How do you feel about the millions that had no business entering the US? What should happen to them?
The millions trying to enter the US will actually be helpful to our country, they will pay taxes amd do work that Americans think are beneath them. They will not wipe out our population with disease. So I say welcome.

I doubt he had the Black Plague. But yes he could have other harmful things these people could not fight off. Every country has the right to decide who enters, and has the duty to its people to keep illegals out. Not just these island peoples.

This reminds me of the story of the Hawaiian islands. The Hawaiian Islands were isolated until the Christian Missionaries and trade ships found them and brought diseases that nearly wiped out the native Hawaiian population. The only way the population survived is because they began marrying and having children with people from other races (white/Chinese/Japanese) that began settling the islands.

It is the story of EVERY indigenous people.

He offered $350 to men who likely didn’t see that much money in an entire year. That’s a small fortune to people who are trying to survive at a subsistence level. To put people in a position where they have to choose between breaking the law or providing security to their family is morally reprehensible, IMO.

Not sure about what, them being the last pre-Neolithic tribe? I’m no anthropologist but I’ve seen that terminology used to describe them from multiple sources today.

What language did he think he would even use to communicate? Did he expect them to speak English? Poorly considered plan to say the least.

I would t have a clue how he meant to communicate with them. Other missionaries have gone to places where there was a language barrier and have been able to communicate.

If he hadn’t come along they wouldn’t have had the $350. So how would they have been any worse off not to take it?
