Warning- daily safety and security room check

DD15 and I stayed at Pop earlier this month. We came back every day for an afternoon break. Sometimes our room had been serviced, sometimes it hadn't. As soon as we got to the room, I put the RO sign out, closed the door, locked the deadbolt, and secured the latch. We would be in our room for at least a couple of hours relaxing or napping. Never once did we hear a knock on the door, and never once did someone barge into our room. I had warned DD that we might get woken up, but we ever did.

Interesting that you had a letter about the room checks in the room. No letter in the 3 rooms I had in January/February. Where did you stay?
We stayed at Beach Club last weekend and had no letter or other info about checks. And we got no apparent checks besides housekeeping. We were club level, though.

It's interesting. They will knock on the door and come in to do a room inspection, even when the "Room Occupied" sign is hanging on the door, but last week at AKL they wouldn't open the door to drop off our DVC tour packets when they tried to deliver them but I'd inadvertently left the "RO" sign on the door. I think it's all about the illusion of security, like TSA (which, because of the HUGE lines, were telling people to leave everything in their carry-ons, don't bother taking off shoes and jackets, etc., just get the carry-on on the belt and walk thru the scanner).

Because they do that, I leave my sheets like this when I leave the room...

Don't forget to spill lots of ketchup on the bed.

We stayed st CSR two weeks ago and got security checks and housekeeping.. it was super annoying as I thought it was one or the other! Also, they called everyday and left a message asking if everything was ok?! In fact one day we had housekeeping and two security checks, i had enough and went and talked to the manager. She apologized and said this should not be happening! It did stop after I spoke with her but two days later we checked out as we were doing a split stay and moved over to the Poly. We only got housekeeping there!

I find it so funny that every time someone goes to the desk/manager they are told "it shouldn't be happening this way" ............ it's been 9 months, how is it that things are still happening this way???

I think at this point, it is happening the way they want, and will likely continue and they are just telling guests what they want to hear.

Seriously any retraining should have been happening right way, within a couple weeks. Management creates standards, they sit supervisors down and tell them their people better get it right. Not rocket science. So I believe they are doing what they are told to do.

HopperFan - i totally agree! I hate to complain on vacation but I was at the end of my patience! The one day they softly knocked and before we could get to the door, a man and woman came in and my hubby was sitting on the end of the bed in his undies! They said they were there to check the air conditioning... when I stated nothing was wrong then it changed to they needed to check the bathroom. The phone calls became a joke as we thought it was funny that they would leave voicemails asking if everything wa ok? At least once a day and often twice! The one day I asked why the man was there as we have housekeeping daily and he referred me to the room occupied sign that stated at the bottom their right to enter the room at anytime! Funny at the poly it was totally different.

Just this paragraph alone says it all. Regardless of why they are there ......... this behavior is BIZARRE!

- TWO people came to check your A/C, oh I mean your bathroom, oh I mean ....
- If your A/C was broke you would have called them, if your bathroom was broke you would have called them ...
- Your DH was IN HIS UNDERWEAR and yet they still felt it was appropriate to enter and walk through ....
- I find that offensive and bordering on criminal ...
- Voicemails ... :tilt: ... everything okay? are your sheets short? are your bulbs burnt out? is your remote working?
- Did they remember to flip all your switches, check your freezer (when you don't have one) ... I mean we've heard it all.

I can't wait for the guest that is walked in on and dials 911. And some poor underpaid housekeeping supervisor aka "fake security" has the cops talking to them about their behavior.

About a month ago in a Facebook group some guests were complaining about some of their pills being missing when they got back to their room. This is why I would want to be there when they are in the room.I guess the only way for that to happen is bring a dog because then they have to make sure someone is in the room. I have asked before that someone that brought their dog would tell us their experience with safety checks. Another thing I've been noticing is since Disney has added the parking fee that other hotels in the area have started waiving those fees.

OP here- 8:24 am -knock on door for security check. Room occupied sign out. Had spoken to the manager days ago about not having someone knock on our door until any time after 12. This is ridiculous.

Sorry to hear this. My strategy was going to be to speak to a manager in person. I guess it’s not a reliable one.

Was it a HK? Seems like they would prioritize guests leaving via ME for early flights over room checks first thing in the morning. It sounds like they just head down the hall to make a “clean” sweep.

Much more efficient.

I am so angry for you. We are night people, we close the parks, we are not up at 8:24 am and no way would they be coming in. Let them bring management back and we'll have a conversation.

The bottom line if this is to "security check" your plumbing, your wiring, your tv, your A/C ................. they can easily do that while you are gone. The fact that they just happen to keep showing up while you are there .............. as with me ............ they are checking YOU.

Aside from however you handle this there, keep documenting like you are and get names of managers. When you get home write a detailed letter to corporate, how it impacted your stay, how they entered your room while you were not all dressed ... make sure corporate understands what the hotels are doing and how you felt.

Am so glad I cancelled my week at POP next month and booked offsite.

It's not even that. We were targeted and when we were checked we saw no other rooms checked. One day, I know they "followed" me there and came to our room and did not go to any of the other 24 rooms on our floor I could see. I know because we detoured returning to our room so he was quite surprised to see us walking up to the door he was about to enter. I am sure he thought we were inside. He came out of a stairwell straight to our room and I stayed out on walkway when he left and he went straight back to the stairs. Even the housekeeper working a few doors down watched him with a strange look.

Much more efficient.

Not to mention saving Disney $$$$.

YUP. Disney could address their problem without impacting the mostly innocent guests BUT it would involve investing in some technology. It is cheaper to pay all these Housekeepers .... ironic since they have a shortage. I think, they think, their problem will go away but until they address this with legitimate security it won't.

OP, I agree with Hopperfan, please continue to share your experience. Its helpful. IMHO it’s better for guests with upcoming trips to be aware of how this going in advance. Especially at Pop. It’s a popular resort. So much good info on the DIS. I think many come here if they haven’t been to Disney in awhile.

"Efficient" is code for "saving money" at Disney. ;) Especially since Disney recently had a big efficiency study done on housekeeping.

A security guy following guests like that is so creepy. If I was solo I would be so unnerved.
