Hi everyone- DH and I are going second week December 2019 adults only and would like to stay at WL. I was gonna book the trip with a hopeful bounceback offer when we stay at a FW Cabin December 2018. With the popularity of WL during holidays and now some standard rooms being more expensive due to their views I’m worried about limited availability for standard rooms without any fancy view. We want this trip to be as affordable as possible. Is it risky to wait until December 2018 to book? It’ll be 12 months out but still...

How did you make your room request? My on-line check in form didn't let me put anything in there.

Online check-in has been problematic for all resorts for awhile. Sometimes no options are available. Sometimes options are available which have nothing to do with your resort. You can call 407-W-DISNEY and tell them to add your request to your reservation. (For a DVC stay booked on points, the member can call DVC Member Services and tell them to add the request to the reservation.)

I will try to strengthen this....
On LINE room requests do NOT WORK. They have FAILED to work for a good YEAR. Broken, Broken Broken...

If you doubt this? Make a request, Go BACK about a day later.... see your request? It's not there, is it? :).

PLEASE - CALL CALL CALL. Once you CALL? DO NOT USE the so called "online system". Doing so will obliterate your WORKING "CALL" request.

All personal opinion - I'm not necessarily right, no one else is necessarily wrong.

We returned on July 15 from a quick adults-only trip and it was great! Happy to answer questions A few info/tips/impressions:
  • Room Request - Were honored. I requested a quiet room away from lobby in the 5th or 6th floor and was given the quietest room I've ever had at WDW in the 6th floor. We had booked a Nature View, but were placed on the other side (Copper Creak). Our room was brand new and immaculate.
  • Roaring Fork - Order at the cashier and they will give you a pager and bring food to you.
  • DDP - While not on the menu, you can get a side of scrambled eggs or a side of bacon for a DDP snack credit. OOP it is around $3. A great choice if you do not want the breads, potatoes and carbs that come with the platters.
  • Geyser Point - Hours listed as starting at 11 am. Not serving breakfast. Arrived one day at around 9:30 - 10 pm and there were plenty of tables towards the water - all unoccupied, but dirty with cups and plates, etc. Sat at a table away from the water and no one came in 20 minutes. Sat at the bar and got a drink. Tables were not cleaned while we were there. Not sure what the plan for this space is but the part lounge, part QS is not working.
  • Artist Point - I was afraid the changes coming would diminish the quality at AP, but it was delicious and so much food! All wines by the glass except the signature ones on the first page were included in DDP. I think my glass was around $17. Smoked mushroom soup met all my deliciousness expectations.
  • Boats - Took boat to MK and to Contemporary (twice). Never waited more than 15 minutes for boat to MK or FW/Contemporary. Very pleasant. Boat to MK not too big, but it was never busy when we took it.
  • Buses - They were fine from WL. Stopped at Contemporary to pick up folks, but on the return did not share. We hopped a lot (did a 4-park chalenge one day and hit 3 parks on a different day!) and park-to-park buses were packed and not as frequent as the demand seemed. At 10 am at Epcot, after morning EMH, we did not get on the first bus to AK because the line was so long. Had to wait for a second bus. Total wait time was around 30 minutes. Blizzard Beach requires changing buses at AK and Typhoon Lagoon requires changing at Disney Springs, but at least those were frequent. Consider the time cost of hopping and the make-up of your party before adding PH/PH+.
  • Overall Impression - Resort is still beautiful and more peaceful than what I remembered from the last time we stayed (Marathon week 2014). We were so impressed that I called to see if we could do a quick Labor Day jaunt. But, with all the price increases, I quickly forego that idea!
Good to hear about Artist Point. We have an ADR there during our stay.

I hope they can make Geyser Point a go, sounds like it needs better mgt.

I don’t know if Copper Creek studio would be an upgrade for us, it’s just my daughter & me, but not sure if dd would appreciate a pull out for 2 weeks.

Do the MK boats start an hour before park opening?

There w
hi all, could you let me know what the coffee situation is in the boulder ridge 2br villas? Keurig, regular coffee maker? Do they supply the coffee?

There will be a package of coffee in the villa when you arrive. They don’t provide additional coffee if you are staying on points. I have heard that housekeeping will bring additional coffee if you are a cash reservation. We always brought coffee and filters from home even though we always had a cash reservation. I didn’t want to be without coffee. :)

As we reported on our Facebook page (Humphrey's Unofficial Wilderness Lodge Pages), the Wilderness Lodge is about to go under a refurbishment. Follow our page for the latest.

I actually don't want to like this because I'm worried we are going to loose some of the cute Disney/Wilderness touches in the rooms, but thank you for the update.

That’s true. They seem to be taking away all the cute theming of the rooms and making them look like any other hotel. And I hate them taking away the ceiling fans. I don’t understand it because using fan saves on AC. I find with fan I don’t have to turn AC down as much.

Uh oh. Don't like the sound of this. They seem to mess things up when they change them anymore...Geyser Point, Artist Point (possibly), half a lodge left, fireworks view $500+ / nt. Hope it doesn't look like World of Disney when they are done. Hoping for the best.

Thanks for the report. We currently are booked in a nature view room May 30- June 9 2019. However, I’m not sure I want to stay during a refurb. Ugh :guilty:

Thanks for the info - planning our 7/19 trip, might need to re-think another WL stay during refurb.

Am I missing something? I don't know who the Humphreys are, but I don't recall seeing anything anywhere about a Wilderness Lodge refurb (other than restaurant changes).

Booked a room today at WL for the 2nd week of December 2019. I waited too late this year to book for December so I booked as soon as the December 2019 dates became available.

Remember that Star Wars Galaxy's Edge will open towards the later portion of 2019 so many of the Disney Resorts may sell out earlier than usual.

Now - totally different? RENTAL ROOMS at the WL are really due for an upgrade...
Let's face it, it's been a good 10 years, and with all of this traffic? Stuff wears out :(.

We don't stay in the Rental Rooms anymore - bought into DVC, homed at BRV, in 2012. But we rented for YEARS, in the main lodge.

Biggest design problem? TRY to find an Electrical Outlet :(. Hint: MOVE the DVR under the TV - unplug that thing. GREAT location for plugging in a "Power Squid" :). Lighting? Poor. "Adams Family" level.

But above all? These rooms get a LOT of traffic. They tend to be beat up like a leased Chevy :). CONGRATS to WDW for dealing with all of this :).

I waited too late to book WL for this December, also :( I do love WL during the holidays. However I booked French Quarter today for the second week in December. We stayed at French Quarter last December and it was beautiful. The most important thing is going to WDW during the holidays!
