I love credit cards so much!

We needs the points before August, since they are predicting we will need 420k points for the same flight and hotel package.
You're in a tough spot there with a current Cat 8 package. It's hard to believe they won't slot current cat 8 into new cat 6. It seems impossible it would slide to new cat 5...

I need help deciding what to do.

Me 4/24, 4/12*, 1/6*, 1/3
12/22/2016 - USAA
6/18/2017 - SW+
6/18/2017 - SW Premier
8/1/2017- UA
11/27/2017 - Amex BRG
3/13/2018 - CIP

DH 3/24, 4/12*, 3/6*, 2/3*
4/3/2017 CSP
9/11/2017 CIP
1/31/2018 Marriot Biz
3/24/2018 SPG personal
*includes Chase Biz cards

We need 360k Marriot points by August to take advantage of the Cat 8 + 132k UA, we are 139k Marriott points short.
Option 1:
DH get the Marriott personal when it goes up to 100k next month? $99 fee, $5k MSR
And buy 10k SPG? $227
Total: $326, $5K MSR

Or

DH gets the Marriott Personal now:75k points AF waived, $3k MSR.
AND
I get Marriott Biz, 75k points, AF waived, $3k MSR.
Total: $0, $6K MSR
Plus we get 2 free nights after anniversary.

But I'm afraid I might not get approved for the Biz since I just got the CIP & I'm at 4/24.
Do you still have the AMEX MRs from the BRG card? It's not necessarily a great use but you could transfer them from AMEX MR => SPG => Marriott. Basically it ends up being 1:1 MR to Marriott points. Of course another option is to transfer URs to Marriott (which also isn't idea but...an option) maybe just to top off the last points needed.

Perhaps I'm throwing salt in a wound...but why not grab the SPG biz last week?

EDIT: If you get the Marriott personal now you could try to convince some friends to use support links :rotfl2: "I'll pay you $20 if you sign up for this card..." LOL!

I don't think Chase approves for under 18yo's :( My oldest is almost 18 and I've wondered when she can go for her own card. She has no steady income though, which I'm sure is a requirement.

Not sure about the age requirement, but I have read multiple reports that Chase requires/likes to see at least six months of credit history in the applicant's own name (so being an AU doesn't help with this).

I might give it a go just to see what happens. If there is a hard age requirement, then obviously that will be a quick denial, but no real harm done. Despite her age, DD has been a taxpayer for a number of years thanks to the generosity of my grandparents who funded a stock portfolio for her to pay for her college education, and my parents have continued to add to it. So she has income and tax paying history although no prior credit history. But she’s got to start somewhere....

Totally forgot the real point of my prior post which was to ask whether, if by some miracle I could get DD approved for the CFU, would I be able to transfer the points earned on that card to my CSR? We are already transferring points from DH’s CIP to my CSR. Is there a limit on the number of transferors I can have to my CSR?

I think you still have to be 18 to have your own credit card, even with a co-signer. Under 21 you can get one with proof of income / assets OR a co-signer but I didn't think anyone would issue a card under 18 due to entering into a binding contract. There's probably an exception for emancipation or similar situations. Chase has it in the online application you have to be 18 to apply, and even older for a couple of states.
If you wanted to try to co-sign you'd probably have to call to see about that, and then see what they say about being under 18 then.

New to this thread and to credit rewards. After scoring my first SW bonus RR points and CP last month I’m hooked and want to learn more about getting more free money! Kind of overwhelmed and can’t read 1208 posts though. Any advice on where to start?

Hey - glad you jumped over! So this is definitely the spot to earn "free money" :) It might make sense to peruse the last 250 pages or so (but even that can be daunting, and we're going to use A LOT of acronyms that might go over your head - don't worry we'll help you understand them).

If you have a good credit score and pay your cards off each month this is a pretty easy game to play. Can you answer some questions so we can give some more guided advice:

1) What cards have you applied for in the past 24 months (give us the month and year you applied or approx. if unsure)

2) Do you have any other credit cards that you didn't apply for in the past 24 months?

3) Do you have a spouse or significant other who is also interested in this game? (Maybe is an ok answer here)

4) What are your travel goals - are you looking to cover Disney trips, or do you have more extravagant plans in mind, or a little of both?

Also - if you are on Reddit we have a private group setup there where we log some of the best advice and tips. You're also able to support other DISers there by using their links or share links of your own. If you aren't on reddit it's easy to join at reddit.com. I’m in. I will figure out what cards I’ve opened in the last 24 and then have replies for all of those questions. Thanks!

Another big one I didn't ask but should throw out there...

Do you have a business, or any sort of side hustle that could qualify as a business? (rental property, Sell things on Ebay, sell cookies, teach piano, consulting, etc.)... Some great offers out there are on business cards and you'd be surprised at how easy it is to qualify. If you're open to trying for business cards it opens up a whole world of AWESOME opportunities :)

As @SouthFayetteFan alluded to, if you have anything, and we do mean *anything* that could qualify as a 'business'...selling on ebay, locally, etc...you may be able to qualify for the CIP. It has a 80k UR bonus which is the best offered by chase. This card is a fav around here and could be a great start for you. You need to be able to met 5k spend in 3 mos. Then you will earn 80k UR. This is $800 cash back...$1000 when the points are redeemed through the CSP or $1200 when redeemed through the CSR.

i believe your at 2/6.
In all honestly, your 4/12 on both you and your husband scares me. I wouldnt apply until that drops.
Mortgage? loan? you have credit union accounts? is either of your scores over 800?

lookin at your record, id apply July when ur SWs drop. putting u at 2/12. you husband, may be okay next month when the CSP drops off to 3/12, 2/6.

How long does it typically take to see earned nights and points show up after a paid in cash stay at Marriott??

I do have the 80k MRs. So would you recommend DH applies for the Marriott premier with the 100k and not risk me being denied for the Marriott Biz?

I wasn’t counting the Amex biz card since it’s not in my credit report. That’s why I thought I was 1/6.

We have a mortgage credit scores in the high 700.

would you recommend we wait until May to get DH the new Marriott card for DH. And just buy the points we need to get to top off?

I was just thinking I could just transfer the URs over, because I would be transferring them to United anyways to get the rest of the points we need to get to Hawaii.

My DS is an AU on my Chase Sapphire. He was 17 when I added him.

Edit: never mind. I just went back to you original thread. I see now that you want her to get her own card, not AU.

I told DS and he thinks that’s pretty cool! He was excited to get a Patrick Sharp jersey today and we’re going to see Chicago Wolves vs Rockford IceHogs AHL playoff game to tomorrow night. The Blackhawks tix are so expensive, we’re trying to get in some AHL games instead.

I used to go to some Rockford Icehog games in high school. They were lots of fun. I think hockey is one of the best live sports. It is so fast paced.
