Confirmed: Prices for Tickets and Passes going up on 2/11/2018

We were surprised by by how many people were in line for tickets this afternoon!! Does anyone know why everyone would be wanting to buy tickets today, after prices went up? I could understand the days prior, but now? I'll have a picture I'll post of the lines later. I don't think I've ever seen them so crowded before.
One hypothesis is that it was crowded because transactions were taking so long, rather than because there were actually more people there. We spoke with some people who had been using some type of vouchers or prepaid tickets to buy their tickets and weren’t expecting the increase. They had spent a lot of time arguing, it sounded like... they were not happy campers.

I bought a LMT ticket yesterday (5-day park hopper) and I'm having trouble scanning it into my app. It scans but when I go to click save I get an error. Just food for tonight, not sure what the issue is.

Thank you for this head's up! It's what I worry about and why I'm going to go ahead and wait and get my ticket after our trip is 100% confirmed.

On the upside, I booked my flight today and actually got a cheaper flight! The amount I saved should just make up the difference on the expected increased cost of an LMT ticket. Yay, budget!!!

Just thought: are there ticket numbers on the voucher? Maybe you could manually enter the ticket number?

Dude! $110 more for APs?!?!? Back in 2014, it only cost $500. A 46% increase in 4 years. Can I get a raise like that? Forget screaming at oil companies or cell phone providers for their insane price hikes. The real gougers of America are the execs approving this increase. I know. Capitalism at work, and I’m all for it. But man, this increase is insane.

I have one-day tickets to DL that we have to use this year. After that, who knows if we’ll return. I’m sure I could get park hoppers, but I’ve gotten used to being able to go when I want. Those days are forever over.

Sorry kids. Disney just priced us out. Hope ya like Harry Potter.

Wow, this may be the most disappointing part for me. I paid $799 for my last signature, and will now have to pay $999 in September? I don't think I'll be able to do that. I wanted to continue to renew to get the renewal discount and keep my photopass, but I'm going to have to take a long, hard look at everything when I'm up for renewal.
When I first started buying our annual passes we had what we would call the premium AP for $89. Yup, passes have gone up. If prices stay stagnant, the crowds will only get worse. I seriously doubt this increase (10-18% for APs, 5-7% on tickets) is really going to slow down attendance. A lot of people will gripe initially, but will make the trip anyway. Do I love a price increase? No, but I will renew. As a shareholder, the price increase makes sense.

Yes. There are ticket numbers. That is how I entered mine in the app from lmt. I could have used the bar code scanner.

The APs effectively went up more than that if you consider the renewal discount, which I always used because I go to DLR at that time anyway. For my AP (Signature), it becomes a 25% increase without that $60 incentive I always used.

It's ridiculous the price increase in APs. How is an increase of $110 for deluxe AP be justified? Yes, that is the one I have. Sigh... I guess I will be spending more time at Knott's Berry Farm. :)

:faint: SMH! Just unreasonable. I guess Disney needs more help in paying for star wars land and Pixar pier.

At 999 if you go one day a month it's $83.25, still cheaper than a 1 day pass. I have said for a very long time that DL AP's are such a steal it's laughable. One day tickets, do people really buy those?? But, 135 dollars for 16 hours in the best theme park in the world is a much better deal than a 2 hour concert or ball game. The people that say they are priced out, do you attend these other events? It's all about your priorities. We do not go to games or concerts so I have no problem with the hikes, and will continue to pay the insane prices for as long as I can. I do hope that one day the crowds will thin, but it won't stop me from having fun at my happy place, except on a 10 day, cause I wouldn't wish 10 days on my worst enemies!

So what is happening with the S. Cal Annual pass that was discontinued for new sales but people were told they could renew it if they already had it? So not quite 3 months that it was possible to do that?

Just curious as I'm not S. Cal but it seems a little bit of an off thing for DL to do. But I guess no more AP renewals at all kind of is too.

It's still available as a renewal only pass. They just did away with discounts for renewing on time, the only incentive to renew on time now is to keep grandfathered in parts, such as the ability to add on parking on the lower level passes and PhotoPass on the Sig pass.

What do you mean by "bridged"? Thanks!
There have been about 4 pages of posts since you asked this so I'm not sure if someone else answered... We got our 4 day PH tickets from LMTClub. They were $44 cheaper than what it would have cost to buy direct from Disney, even though they were the same tickets. We upgraded the PH tickets to AP's and we received credit for the full amount that Disney would have charged us, not the discounted price that we paid for the tickets from LMTClub. Effectively, we saved $44 on heach AP.

So, renewal has different meanings now! lol Got it. It seems like in most cases, unless you flow right into your next visit, it won't make sense to "renew" except for that single S. Cal AP and the Parking pass.

It makes sense to renew if you are someone that goes regularly so you don't get caught in the middle of a potential price increase during a renewal window. My pass now falls out of that frame (July 23 exp. from the 13 months promo), but back in 2013 or 2014 the price increase was in May and fell within my renewal window and I was able to renew just before getting hit with a significant at the time increase.

I feel your pain! We are now looking at Knotts instead of Disneyland for a wedding we will attend later this year. We will get annual passes if we all like it and if we can get decent rates for tickets, we might go to visit Mickey too. I do know the next time I go to Disneyland, I will be less likely to turn a blind eye on chipped paint, dirty bathrooms, generic merchandise, generic food, rides in need of repair, etc. I think I will be in City Hall with a list. If Disney feels they need to charge more, I expect things to be kept at that level. I understand Disney is a business and costs do rise a bit and you have to pass them along, but the only thing that has risen to justify these costs is Disney's greed. Has anyone really seen numbers on crowds, or is it crowded because of so many things closed, walls up? I thought I read last year attendance was down but they still made $$$ because they raised prices on everything and cut back staffing. Well, what goes up, must come down. I do think everyone here on the boards could make a trip to Disney happen if they truly wanted, but there comes a time when you know the value of the item isn't worth the funds they are asking. When more hit that value line and not go, Disney will dial things back/bring out great deals. I will be waiting while seeing America.

It was a hefty increase. But I agree that if prices don't rise crowds will just get even more out of control. I'm not sure they're high enough still to keep crowds in check. The initial announcement I saw said there will be more changes to APs later this year. I think more pruning is needed as they prepare for Galaxy's Edge. To me the price for APs just means I may not be able to justify purchasing APs and visiting multiple times in a year. But it doesn't mean we can't or won't visit. I hope over time they can balance crowds a bit better.

I agree. I think without the renewal discount, they'll see a lot more people let their passes lapse for a period of time, then get new passes when they come for their next trip, especially for people who aren't local.

With no price break for renewing it really doesn't. All you need to do now is to buy a new AP to activate at the time of your next trip but renewing and extending a pass when you wouldn't be using it for a month or two would not make sense.

Not sure a concert or ballgame is a good analogy for those traveling to Anaheim and staying in hotels. It all adds up.

I really wish they had a better pass for people that come to the parks from hours away. Those that drive many hours or have to fly. Since the longest ticket they sell is 5 days the deluxe (minimum) is the only option for us that want to come more than once a year and possibly longer than 5 days. But we aren’t the people the ‘no renewal discount’ is targeting. That’s local Californians. But we feel the slap in the face. $110. Really? Assinine. They surely ran figures on how many people wouldn’t renew or buy passes and they probably are trying to thin the parks of AP’s that are in the parks nearly weekly while making the same profit. (And they need to do that.) They’re trying to increase 5 day and less tickets.

I really was hoping for a creative restructuring with this price increase. Some type of punch card type pass. 10 days for $xxx. Passes for peak or non-peak days and a combination.
