Upcoming port/itinerary changes HERE

Seems to me Grand Cayman would be the most likely option since they use tendering. With tendering, the amount of ships is not limited to the number of slots you have in a traditional port. So you could potentially "port" as many ships as you like and it wouldn't matter how many cruise lines switched their itinerary to that port.

It is true that Grand Cayman does not have the traditional dock areas but they are limited. They only have four anchoring positions for ships. The reef areas limit where ships can be anchored. They also need room for tenders.

Booked on 4 night Oct 30th Dream.
Think there will be changes? Two days at CC and a sea would be great.

Aruba (ABC islands) are too far for ships coming out of Port Canaveral. The same goes for the southern Caribbean islands like Dominica or Grenada and St. Lucia/Barbados - they too far from PC. Maybe Martinique and St. Kitts are options as well as Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic ports are options for substitutions for Fantasy.

I know they have the Wonder going to San Juan in Feb, so they have things already kind of in place there.

The Wonder is leaving from San Juan and going to Port Canaveral. I'm not sure what will happen with that one because the stops are St. Thomas and Castaway Cay and has to be done in 4 days.

A couple of the St. Thomas hotels have already said they're closing for 6 months. Windward Passage is one of them; it's the hotel straight across the harbor from Havensight Pier.

The hospital is "crippled," and that's right up from Havensight.

I still haven't seen pictures of the pier itself, but based on the places totally trashed, the triangulation suggests that the pier isn't accepting large ships any time soon. Seaports on St. Thomas/St. John are officially open as of this morning; airport is targeting 9/16. But the ferries are only running in daylight hours (curfew I think is still live?). Ferries, obviously, are a lot smaller, and people on them at this point are trying to get water, supplies and tarps, not sit on a beach with a tropical drink.

When she does the Eastern out of PC - if it happens as scheduled - she has a port day in San Juan.

Very little damage reported in Nassau, odds are they just need to confirm the port is safe before reopening. Both PortMiami and Port Everglades are reporting no major damage but need to confirm the harbor is clear and get USCG approval before reopening. Port Everglades in particular is expecting to reopen to cruise traffic tomorrow. I imagine Port Canaveral is not any worse off. Since they fully evacuated Castaway Cay an assessment team will need to be sent before we get word but it is unlikely to have sustained any more damage than Nassau did. Given all that the only thing 3 and 4 day Bahamian cruises will need to consider before returning to their normal operation is Jose. Forecasters are being clear though that the computers are not good at modeling storms doing loops like Jose is expected to do, so don't put too much faith in the 4-5 day path yet. There could be some significant changes to its predicted path in the next couple of days.

As far as the Eastern Caribbean... Everyone's guess is as good as mine. I just hope everyone is getting the help they need and there are no more casualties coming.

I've been looking at the current port assignments trying to figure where there are holes to fit. There are a lot of non-cruise days at the western ports.

I'm hoping for GC and CC double dip. I didn't like Cozumel or Falmouth.
Sounds like the perfect itinerary to me!

She's out of SJ as point of embarkation/debarkation in January mostly, then transfers from SJ to PC in early Feb. Honestly I don't think much if anything will change on our cruise end of January although there will likely be less of us heading over to Barbuda from Antigua. :sad1: St Thomas absolutely took a beating though - depending on how well they are able to get back on their feet and what sort of funding they can secure to do so they may alter the stop for the repo after us. Four months is a long time so we'll have to wait and see what DCL decides.

I glanced at other sailings today to see what I might be interested in if they allow us to cancel. At least I feel a bit prepared.

Was there much of a choice? And I wonder if we can cancel if we will also get the 25% discount to rebook. The reason I ask this is because any other cruises will definitely be more expensive than what I originally booked, thats for sure.

If I learned anything glancing at them, more expensive was it.
I think I'd either do the same week 4 night dream or push back to May when school lets out.

ETA: there isn't much avail near term since we are sailing as a family of 5.

If all we go is to Castaway Cay and no other ports, and give us the option to cancel, I would probably rebook for sometime next summer. Maybe a 4 night Dream cruise. I don't know because I really want a Caribbean cruise!

Most of the 9/23 Fantasy is on Fall Break out of GA. Doubt we'll all think of cancelling due to port changes. Maybe,, but doubt it. Cannot wait,,, Docking, Tendering, or just Disney Magic ...

Wow, your fall break is early! A lot of my 10/7 fantasy is TN fall break people. We went back the first week of August.

Wow, that's early too! Here in Oregon kids started last week of August but the official 'everyone is back now' start is the day after Labor Day.

Yeah. Mine is in Feb when she's out of PC and slated for St Maarten, San Juan, and CC. May stay the same, may change.
