*******Official August 2017 Countdown Thread ~ Feeling hot, hot, hot!!!******

Great Movie Ride closing 8/13!!! jeez, my HS day got even shorter....now I might as well just show up at 5:00 pm, eat at H&V, ride Toy Story, and hit Fantasmic.

Also adding on to this ^ I'm sure I'm the only one, but I'm disappointed that Universe of Energy is also closing Aug. 13!! (https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/b...ing-to-epcot/?CMP=SOC-DPFY17Q4D23DPBSupport8B) I had never forced the fiance to sit through it and was looking forward to making him do so on this trip, as well as the 40-minute respite from the afternoon heat... :( :( But I'm sure the new rides will be cool when they're done.

Thanks for the post, I don't think I would have known. We arrive 3 days to late :sad2:

DS is having very mixed feelings about the D23 announcements. He's excited about the changes and additions that are planned but super bummed that the closures are happening before we get there, especially GMR. Good thing we'll be there during the first couple days of f&w to make up for seemingly half of FW being down

3 weeks til check in at CSR.
Mixed feelings about D23 announcements too-although the space themed restaurant at Epcot sounds very cool. Wonder if Toy Story land will open before our AP's expire...
Need to start saving now for the Star Wars resort:P

the SW resort sounds cool....but deep down I still haven't accepted that Star Wars = Disney, so its hard for me to be excited about all the SW stuff.
I suppose at some point I should watch the movies and see if I can get into the hype.
Same with Marvel....to me, stuff that Disney has aquired isnt *REALLY* Disney, kwim?

Check in friday night the 11! We'll do GMR one last time on the 12, if the line isnt outrageous. This is going to fill HS with so much people :(

Excited about all of the changes at WDW. I just wish they would add more than two rides to the new lands. It sounds like the crowds at Pandora could be mild compared with what's to come...

Wow, I hadn't even though about this being two attractions closed in Future World after the 13th. I wonder what effect that will have on lines at other attractions like Spaceship Earth, and Journey into Imagination. Universe of Energy is a people eater. Mission Space not as much, but with both being closed, that is a fair number of guests that will be riding something else.

And GMR.......not much else to do in HS!! But, I bet they decided on the 8/13 date to close those as crowds supposedly start to drop off significantly around that time......

I'll be paying off our trip this week. Just need to make a run to Sam's Club for a couple more discounted gift cards and we'll be good to go. Then the fun job of a billion lists and packing begins.

Every morning I wake DS10 up with an update to our countdown. This morning was 40 days! In the typical "tween attitude' his response was "Mom, why do you keep counting down every day? It's not like it'll make the time go by any faster. There's still 24 hours in each day." This earned him the biggest side-eye in the history of side-eye. SMH

HS . . . we aren't even bothering with it. No one in my family will ride ToT. DS is the only one that really likes RnRC. I would probably enjoy it, but have health concerns that will keep me from it at least for a bit. That leaves us with Star Tours, TSMM, and a few shows. Not much. We will spend an extra day in MK.

As for the crowds dropping off, they do, but in my experience, it isn't quite that early. What I have seen is crowds dropping off in the 3rd week of August. However, Disney knows what their booking is like this year. They may well be expecting crowds to drop off earlier this summer than they have in previous years.

Geeze.....I am away from the boards for a few days and all kinds of announcements are happening....

I do find it strange timing for these attractions to close. Aug 13 is middle of the month and like Tomh said, not quite at the typical drop-off in attendance date. Aug 20 or 27 would have seemed a more logical date. We are not huge fans of either of these rides but use them more as a resting/cooling off attraction. I am just SUPER thankful that SM will be open during our trip as it is a family favorite. We listen to the soundtrack at home sometimes when we are feeling Disney nostalgic:goodvibes

I will admit to the fact that I am going to miss the Universe of Energy. Lucky for me, we will be in the park on the 11th, so I will get one last chance to ride. One final time to hear those words "Stupid Judy, stupid energy" lol. I always wondered though, why the spiel about the energy game, and the website mention, when there actually is no website, or game. Seems it would have been a simple tie in for them to actually make the website, and put a simple energy game on it. Keep people thinking about their Disney World vacation all year long.

Ah, well, farewell Ellen, I guess the Dinosaur won in the end!

Happy that my daughter is still into the countdown game... we have a countdown calendar and she is counting down the days until we get to put that up!

Despite how his comment came across, he really is excited. He helped a lot with the planning and would have gone as far as booking our FP'es himself had I let him. Even though he tries to downplay it, I can see the sparkle in his eye when I start blabbing about our trip.

I still do a countdown calendar. It is made of blocks, one block has weeks on a side with the other side days. It says 4 weeks now, at 2 weeks I will switch to day's.
