Class-Action Lawsuit against Disney Parks filed - CORRECTION: not class-action

She isn't waiting twice, she's waiting once.
I wonder if she thinks she is waiting twice, once outside of the FP line, and once in the FP line? Those 2 wait times together are approximately equal to what a person in the standby line waits, assuming the FO line is truly a 10 minute wait.

Long time lurker, first time poster. As as a parent of a profoundly physically disabled child who has trouble visiting the parks, I find the fact that Disney is being sued by the same group who abused the GAC into oblivion, yet are the only disorder now eligible for the DAS, comical. It serves Disney right for kowtowing to these entitlist abusers and for throwing the truly disabled, who utilized these special passes responsibly, under the bus. No sympathy here.

I don't think you are getting the point. You are not waiting twice. You are waiting once. If you choose to get a DAS then you will get a return time. I understand you are not getting on the ride right away, but you always have the choice to wait on the stand by line. You said Nemo was the ride she loves to ride, well that tends to be a ride with very little wait. I would think with the exception of Xmas and Easter weeks, it has like a 5/10 minute wait. So why not just go on the stand by line. If you get there early you can probably ride multiple times in a row without the use of the DAS or FP+, then for later in the afternoon you can have your FP+ scheduled and use the DAS. The Little Mermaid ride will be a little trickier since it's more popular, but again, getting there early with utilizing the FP+ and DAS she should be able to ride it quite a few times. Question: What did you do before Little Mermaid? Did you only go to Epcot your whole vacation and just ride Nemo or did you go to the other parks and make due? If you made due, I don't get why you can't do that now. I'm not trying to pick on you. I don't understand why you can't see you are not waiting twice. Would you rather wait on the 70 minute line or 30 minute FP line when you return? I know which one I would want. For the most part the FP line will not be 30 minutes. I imagine that happens when there is a problem with the ride or loading more wheelchair bound people than usual. You said your DD likes the characters, how about trying to find some during your DAS waits. Time a DAS tine during the parade and go see the parade. Can also time the DAS time during lunch and dinner. Again, a lot you can do.
I'm getting the point I've done it on 2 separate trips and we wait twice here is what I'm talking about, but first she cannot ride a ride over and over again due to sensory issues and not just overloading, and no we didn't just go to Epcot and we do make due as you say. I do t think anyone is getting what I starting to say, I wasnt complaining until people start with the fairness and equal card, and it frustrates me when they haven't got a clue about my dd and her different abilities, we go we have a ball but it is waiting Twice for her:

Depending on the day she may not want to ride anything so FP for her is hit and miss, I can ask her 100 times if she is ready 99 times I will get a no then a yes, I get her time at the beginning and then I have it ready if she decides to ride, in this instance it great

The other scenario is where the waiting twice comes in, first thing when she wakes up could be 5 am in the morning all you hear is Nemo we get to the park , arrive at Epcot go to the ride time posted is 30 mins and yes it was 30 mins get a return time and WAIT (1) return at stipulated time and enter the 10min FP line wait number 2

It doesn't matter in the whole scheme of things she loves Disney and I have no intention of taking that away from her ever, I don't use the words fair and equal for a reason but when ppl start preaching about how luck we are to not have to stand in line it jus terms me sorry

I never once asked to be treated differently just fairly there is a difference, and this is going exactly how I knew it would, never said anything about raising a child with a disability and please feel sorry for me EVER, just making the point of 2 wait times isn't equal nor fair but moving on twisting words and starting a slanging match I will not do

I'm sorry, but I just don't see it as two wait times. It's no different then waiting for your FP time and then waiting in the FP line.

If I'm waiting for my return time but meeting characters and riding things with short lines in the mean time, I consider it multitasking.

I was feeling sorry for DisFanx4, but then her screen name sounded so familiar to me and I was pretty sure she had said something on here that was pretty awful and low and behold I found it. So basically DisFanx4 thinks since some MAW kids get better they shouldn't get FOTL. Basically downplaying a child who has life threatening cancer because they may get better to someone who has autism because there is no cure for autism :confused3 . Yes, autism is tough, but in no way is it the same as having a child that may never see tomorrow and if they get better isn't that awesome; a miracle. Why would you begrudge them a MAW trip just because they got better? :

I know o will probably be flamed for this and expect it, but I believe there is a fundament lack of human compassion these days. There are a lot of people dealing with problems I agree but are those problems as long lasting as a life of someone with special needs?? I totally understand the concept of how the make a wish program started and here comes the flames but a lot of those kids survive and go on to live happy "normal life's" last time I checked there isnt a cure or a pill for a child/adult with Autism. Still not saying they should get what is called special treatment but if you want to talk fair then let's talk what's really fair. My compassion goes out to everyone dealing with special accommodations whatever they may be

Autism is not the only reason one can have for using a DAS. But if a guest's needs can be met with a mobility device, then there is no reason for a DAS, since most of the lines at WDW are accessible.

I remember that post. It was... Just no words for it.

BUT, it comes from a locked thread and it will get this thread locked if we discuss it. And it's been a civil discussion here. I'd rather that didn't happen.

I was just curious as to why this is important to you. We may have to agree to disagree on the DAS though because I don't think Disney owes you anything more then what they are already giving you. I think this lawsuit is ridiculous and shows just how entitled so many feel today( I am not referring to you unless you are named on the lawsuit). I am glad that your daughter is happy there and I don't begrudge her any fun at Disney but I also don't think she should have immediate access to a ride several times in a row.
I don't not agree with the lawsuit at all, and I have never once asked or stated that Disney owes me anything, it's important to me that others understand that constantly using words like fair and equal , life isn't fair and equal many times in our lives? I guess it's frustration that ppl state things about others without knowing anything about them

Not defending her statements because it is a pretty sad thing to say but I am sure after reading what she wrote she had some regrets. i in no way believe she is that thoughtless or unfeeling. We all say things from time to time in the heat of an argument that we don't really mean. I don't think this should be held against her.

I didn't ask for your sympathy or want it.....

Thank you, and there was an apology in that post that has not be added here,

Do not want to get this thread locked, but if Disfanx4's definition of waiting twice is getting the DAS time then coming back to wait in the FP line, then we are all waiting twice. For example, if I book my ride at 3:00 I have to wait until 3 p.m. and then get into the FP line and wait again, but of course I don't see it as waiting because I'm in the park doing something else until 3. I consider waiting actually being in the line and stuck there, that's true waiting.

Many people with various disabilities used the GAC exactly as they were instructed by guest services to use it. And yet people like you (and many others) have decided that kids with autism are the group who are unworthy.

This is the classic argument of "my kid's disability is worse than yours, therefore more deserving."

Not surprised any longer at the hate toward children with autism and their parents. If we exchanged the words "children with autism" in this thread with "children who need a wheelchair" it would have been closed by now. But autism is really a lesser disorder and doesn't really need to be treated with any degree of dignity apparently.

Re: Families riding together...In January we ran into a rude CM at the entrance to Soarin'( and no, he was not rude because he wouldn't let us ride together, he was just rude). we split up into 2 groups and our dear daughter rode 2x one with some of the family and another time with the other half. It would have been a more magical experience if we could have experienced the ride together...but there were 8 of us. It would be great if families could ride together.

There are many, many conditions that have nothing to do with autism that used the GAC as directed, and that are still eligible to use the DAS, no question about it.

But it does seem to be the parents of autistic children that are yelling the loudest about the changes. Not all or not even most families of autistic children are complaining, but the ones that are most certainly are the loudest.

I've also not seen any hatred towards any group on these boards, but YMMV.

Fair enough. But how would you make the determination that a child deserves the same benefits as MAW if they don't actually go through MAW (or another wish granting organization)?

They don't, MAW and Disney negotiated their agreement just like Chase Card Services with a free photo for people with their card.

Most MAW children need and get other accommodation to make the most of their experience. I agree with everything MAW does for kids and their families to help make happy memories.

Potentially MAW children who don't go through the organization still have severe illnesses that are very hard to deal with in everyday life. So if a parent wants to take their sick kid to WDW and thinks a DAS card would make it possible for their child to enjoy the day, I think it is fine. Also, just because a child has survived their life threatening illness, doesn't mean they weren't left with some pretty devastating (life long) side effects from the treatment or disease.

I respectfully disagree.

A MAW trip is supposed to be something extra special to "make up for" all that the child has gone through/will go through. I know that it doesn't really "make up for it", but I cannot think of a batter way to phrase it. It does (and should) give some above and beyond the norm.

The DAS, on the other hand, is supposed to give equal access. Unlike a MAW trip, it isn't designed to take into account what the child goes through outside of WDW.
