kids and costumes......

yes they certainly do get more attention. dd got so much attention on days2 n 3 wearing her cinderella dress! also cinderella spent more time with her in auburge and even remembered her name the next day

snow white and jasmine both stopped during stars n cars and spent ages talking to her too

I think they get a lot more attention...my daughter was wearing princess dresses...and got a wee bit attention but when she wore the furry Sully costume it was unreal!....Wee Stitch boy got loads of attention...all we heard no matter we went was theres Steeeeeech!:rotfl:.....he got loads of attention from non cast members too...much to Joshuas annoyance!:lmao:

and during stars and their cars Sully just concentrated on Jade for most of it...kinda felt bad!!!:rotfl:..cast members were coming up and asking where we bought the suit...haha! (ebay!!!:lmao:) Cast members were saying Sully was excited because no one bothers dressing up as him!!!!...he was jumping up and down with excitment at jade and hugging her then running away and running towards her again!!..was brill!!!

I think if you wear a costume that is prob very rare to see in the parks then you probably will get noticed alot....but I'm with Lisa unless we are going when its hot i don't take many dresses as i dont like sticking clothes under the outfit either and then a coat on top. Defeats the object really.

good point re covering up - guess if u get nice warm weather u can do it - so child isnt too hot or too cold....

as for rare costumes - ds2s tigger one is rare, and i am determined that he will still fit in it for halloweeen, as its a vampire/count tigger all in one - with cape to it - really fab and not seen one since (been lookin for next size up lol)

do love the sulley one (hes my fav!) and been watchin a few on ebay.... the stitch ones i like, but ds2 wud struggle with the extra arms lol.

thanks for all the advice and comments, its interesting to hear how costumes can affect 'noticeability' and also that less 'popular' ones get attention too.... (and boys lol)

hurrah for ebay ;)

Hi,
IMHO my DS got more attention the days he was dressed up than the days he wasn't- and most of the time he was wearing generic rather than Disney costumes.
On our first trip (he was 4 then) he had just an ordinary pirate outfit (which was great as it was easy to wear over ordinary clothes and the extra layers kept him warmer ). Mr Smee brought him to the front of a photo queue and had a great interaction with him and Peter Pan and Wendy did the same. The CM'S on POTC made a great fuss of him and we have a fab ride photo of him all dressed up and laughing.
He wore an ordinary cowboy costume to the Silver Spur and felt really special and wandering around Frontierland had a ball with Chip and Dale stealing his hat!
On our second visit I'd got him an Aladdin costume, (which he changed into just before the meal) he had a fab time in it at Auberge- all the princesses were hugging him and asking after Jasmine! But he had had just as much fun in the cheapo Pirate and cowboy costume!
Basically boys can dress up without it costing too much and as well as them feeling like a vip you'll get some wonderful photos.

When do u usually dress your kids? I might get a costume for my dsfor the character dining? Is this allowed?

When my DD dressed up in her costumes, she wore them all day, from breakfast right through to dinner in the evening :goodvibes.

I do also agree with Emma, your kids won't be ignored if they're not dressed up, and it also helps if you're not there at busy times in the park (DD didn't take any costumes with her at all last year, and both times, she had lots and lots of character interaction).

My dd2 have never worn there costumes in the parks i dont think they have got anyless attention. I agree with emma i dont think the costumes look right over jean with jacket ect. Were going in july and there def going to wear them this time as the weather should be good (i hope) also i find dd2 is far more into dress up since we last went , she dresses up everyday at home now she even wanted to go to pre-school in her jasmine costume last wk:lmao: I had to say no!! I do think you would def get more attention with an unusual costume like the sully one which is fab:thumbsup2 I want one. DD1 asked lastnight for a woody one, dd2 is a strict princess girl:rotfl2:

I agree with that and told Jade she can only take the Sully outfit in winter as its REALLY thick and furry (pretty heavy too)...(it actully fits me but I took the legs up for her lol) It kept her so warm it was brilliant, my best buy yet.

Joshua on the other hand had to wear his ski suit under it as the stitch one is thinner but there was no way he was leaving the hotel room without wearing it, he said he HAD to wear it the whole holiday!!!!:lmao:...but no we can't fit jackets on top of our costumes!!!!:lmao::lmao:

i think it depends on how you do the dresses. i have seen kids with them pulled over heavy jumpers and that and it just looks silly. i put a vest and tshirt under ashleighs and leggings and i think it looks fine. actually on her it looks better as she is quite pale and skinny bless her lol

BUT hasn't every wee girl got he right to dress as a Princess no matter when they go to DLP????? whether it means having to chuck a wee jacket over the top to stop the frost bite?:lmao:

You can't say to a kid 'no we aren't packing your costumes because you'll need to wear a jacket'.....I think in the terms of character interaction....the lass with the jumper under her dress will still get the same time with the character as the lass with just a dress on.....and if the dress is big enough to tie up it can look ok?????

I don't think I've had jade with a princess dress on with a jacket, apart from the Mickey party thing last October but it was late at night and getting a bit cold!!!haha!....she got LOADS of attention.

Ya that true, it was the heavy jumper gang i was thinking off:lmao:

I think if your going to wear the costume, then wear it properly imo.

I remember putting jeans under one of kyras dresses when went on a earlier trip and thought to myself after why oh why did i do that LOL. It just looked wrong.

But each to there own really :rolleyes1:rotfl:

End of the day I don't take costumes for Kyra in order for her to recieve more attention, she recieves loads with or without them.

I've got to the point now that I don't think we would be able to go without costumes!!!:yay:...don't get me wrong, Its only been since 2009 we took them but what a difference when you do....BUT they still got noticed and plenty attention before but for some reason it feels better with a costume???

Its all good fun whether you take costumes or not.....oh and as I mentioned in October 2009...a cast member actually told a woman next to me that its only the kids with costumes that they get the characters to come over to...(stars and their cars)...Joshua was dressed as Stitch and he said he was going to get Stitch for us, the lady next to us asked if he could get Mulan over for her daughter and he said no..they only get for the dressed up kids....

Now my opinion is....A. He was having a bad day...B.If that is the case I think its WRONG..I felt so upset for the wee girl!!!!!

can I just add that the characters did go to non costumed up kids...but he was making a point of taking Stitch from another group of kids to come over to us....not too nice huh? But Joshua loved it!!!!lol

I put clothes underneath ellie-marie's costume she wore a long sleeve top and jeans with her cinderella dress she still looked ok and i let her wear her coat over top a big wooly one  at end of the day i think its important for them to be wrm than look nice dont want them getting a cold on holiday

Hi sorry to g/c your thread but I've been reading with some interest :) My little man fits in 6mo clothes - can anyone recommend where I might get him a little tigger, stich or sully outfit? Do they make them that small!? We go in 11 days so might not have long enough to have one shipped from the states but having read your thread I'm thinking twice about buying one in the parks! As my DH pointed out we can save that for when he's a bit older and picking one for himself is half the fun!

Thanks!

OMG if that CM had said that to my DD, about Mulan not coming over because she wasn't in costume, I'd have been right off to Guest Services to complain - because its totally not true - as my loads of photos of DD with the characters from Stars n Cars (none of which she was wearing a costume in) can testify ;)

Have a look in Tesco, Asda and Marks and Spencers - they often sell baby/toddler Disney dress-up outfits.

Hence why I don't let Kyra wear costumes when its freezing, she will wear normal clothes. It makes no difference to our trip if shes dressed up or not.

Like i said in my previous post each to there own.

Hi there have you looked in Asda? Sometimes they have small disney ones!!!...have a look on ebay for stitch and sully though because they are kind of older costumes...good luck...ps you will have a nice time without costumes!!!:)

I know and I felt so sorry for the wee girl...I actually, if truth be known didn't know where to look!:sad2: He asked me if we met Stitch before and I said yes that morning but he still went away to get him...and I was RIGHT next to the woman so I didn't hear wrong. xx
