OMG YES!!! It was like going from the dark ages to the 25th century (yes I know that hasn't gotten here yet but that is the extreme). It is a shame that there is such a vast difference between two schools in the same district. The principal there was extremelly supportive of the teachers and got to know all of the students. Each 9 weeks she personally signed and commented on all 425+ student report cards. The teachers were all happy and that reflected on their students and therefore in the test results.
The final end of grade test results for the school were INCREDIBLE!!! The average for the 3rd grade was 97.8%, 4th was 96.4, and 5th was 96.7. The writing test scores for the 4th grade were around 86%. Meanwhile the old school fell from a 30% passing writing test score to a 22.3% rate.
DS has academic peers at this school and though he got the top overall score on the first run of the EOGs in September, there were 4 of them in his class that rotated the top 4 scores all year. It is great that he has kids who he can relate to now. They are all at a 7th grade or higher reading level so they can talk about books that they are reading for example. He no longer gets teased for being "the smart kid".
DD did very well too.
To give a specific example of the difference in the curiculum between the two schools, DS's 2nd grade introduced double digit addition and subtraction in May. DD's 2nd grade class learned this in October.
Needless to say we are very happy with our decision to buy a house so the kids could attend a better school. We haven't regretted it for one second.
We actually signed a contract a couple days ago for the old house and if things go the way they look so far we will be closing the end of this month.
