I've not found AbbyGrace's husband yet. I need to get to work on that!

Unfortunately, I wasn't sewing like I do now when we went to China. The thought of buying silk there for her wedding dress NEVER even occurred to me. Now I'm having a panic attack! What to do. What to do! I have a friend leaving on Thursday to bring home her daughter, I wonder if she'd bring me back some... where do you buy it? Guangzhou? How much did you buy? How much did it cost? You've really got me going now! We do plan to go back in several years, I guess I could get some then.

No panic attacks :cloud9:
My guide said to buy in Beijing, but truthfully we found a better selection in the shops near the White Swan. A friend of mine bought 10 yards-ohh it is beautiful!!!!!!! And it was heavy! The friendship stores sell silk by the yard, the prices seemed somewhat reasonable. As I understand it they have friendship stores (govenment run) in most places in China.

Let's see a husband for Abbygrace..... there were two little boys adopted the same time Morgan was. Both are very sweet. One has 2 brothers, the other has 2 sisters. And I think they are both about 4 :rolleyes1

Now that you mention it, we went to the silk factory in Beijing, and I think I remember seeing bolts of fabric. The silk in Beijing was much more expensive than in Guangzhou. The one silk dress that we bought in Beijing we paid about $30 US, and the ones in Guangzhou were about $5 US. I think I might email my friend and see if she'll pick some up for me. I DO have a white silk dress that I could take apart and use for something, but I'd rather not do that if I don't have to.

I'm completely jealous of everyone's faabric finds. I probably won't get to a JoAnn's this week-end, but I did swing by Hancock to day (with dh - he's such a sweetie) & didn't see anything I really wanted.

Steph, that AK outfit is adorable.

Tom, I totally agree about the kids clothes. I'm dreading when my girls get a little older & truely start to pay attention to the way the other girls dress. Maybe they'll still like Mommy's clothes better. :confused3

That table set is GORGEOUS!!!!!! :lovestruc Now if I only had a good place to put one....

I'm at my parent's for the week-end (Mom got tickets to see Reba & Kelly Clarkson last night - oh wow! great show!) But, I'm planning on spending Monday sewing. Either Easter dresses or princess twirly dresses, haven't decided which.

I know what you all mean about "normal" clothes not cute enough either!

That is the whole reason that I do this!

Once they get out of the "toddler" area in the dept. stores, it seems as if the clothing was made for "tweens".

I guess I am "old fashioned", but I still want my little girl to look like a little girl, and not a "hoochie mama!":rotfl:

Careful Tom, you are showing your age using terms like "hoochie mama!" :lmao:

However, I am right there with you. It is amazing the outfits that little girls wear. I love your creations for your gorgeous daughter. They are adorable and so is she.

don't feel bad I am not even going to step into a joannes. everytime I do I lose a lot of money. I am waiting till I need something!

No sewing for me- We're headed to the Mall of America today! :goodvibes

OOH fun!!! Mary Kate and Ashely went there once with their cousin! :lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl:

Okay, major stress. My new sewing machine is messed up. I think the timing is off. I just got it for Christmas (from Costco) so I took it back, but they don't carry it in the store anymore so I had to order a new one online (and pay $30 more dollars for it) :headache: :headache: :headache: so much for sewing this weekend! I may just have to undo my ruffler contraption (now that I think I finally got it optimized) and get to work on this baby:

IMG_0950.jpg

This machine never breaks and is very fast and smooth. I just cant do much more than a straight stitch on it because the contraptions that go along with this thing make a ruffler foot look dainty!:rotfl:

Here is the latest thing I have made Lily. It is a sundress for summer, but she INSISTS on wearing it every day. I do need to move the (purely decorative) buttons higher though.

th_IMG_0953.jpg
Sorry about your machine. That old one looks very sturdy!

Lily's dress, and Lily are completely adorable!! I love that nice cheery fabric!!! It almost makes me believe that spring might actually get here someday!

I was going to go to JoAnn's and take the kids to the Hannah Montana movie today but Megan has been fighting a cold and feels feverish. She is so cute, lying in my bed watching tv in her Jasmine costume with a minnie bow in her hair. I did redo two of her bows I have previously made (oh my, what a hot mess they were). Maybe I will get that St. Patrick's fabric I bought and figure out what to do with it.

Aww, poor Megan, I hope she gets feeling better!

Teresa- SOS!!!! I'm trying to access the tutorial to do decoupage jeans on "the bookmarked links of bliss" and it won't allow me in! Don't they know who I am? ;) J/K!!!! It has the DIS boards official access denied post! ARGH!

This is what I get:

UtahMama, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

1. Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
2. If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.

Yep, since the hid the thread, some of the links are not working. I did find quite a few of them though, (Google cache) so not all of the ones I had bookmarked are lost. I put the ones I found on my blog, and bookmarked it from the bookmarks. So, we won't lose them again. LisaZoe's corset top, TheSeamstress sewing room, Dreamer and Wisher's ruffled pants and quite a few others are some of the ones I found. I'm still missing Cindee's very cool doll tight tutorial though, and that's really bugging me!

EVERYTHING that was posted on that thread is gone. Never to be seen again. I may ask Lisa if she would mind doing a tutorial and posting it on the board I set up.

I found a lot of the links, so not everything was lost. I'm pretty determined when I put my mind to something, and I found lots of the posts. :thumbsup2
It would be great if LisaZoe or some of the other great knowlegeable Disers could write something up for your site though! I will bookmark it if they do. I know there were a few on here that had some great tips for those.

My friend just got this machine. She was driving home and it was sitting in someones driveway with a sign on it that said FREE WORKS GREAT! So she picked it up. We live 1 minute away from each other- I wish I was just driving by and found a free sewing machine.

This is what I am working on:

kidschairs.jpg

It is one of Katie’s birthday gifts. I am so excited to give it to her. I am using pink tulle, pink chenille, and pink taffeta. I am using a plain table I bought at Michael’s with two chairs. The chairs are not as fancy, but it is cute. I hope it turns out half as cute as the one in the picture.

Awww, Lacy, that table set is going to be so pretty!!! I love it!!! And, I'm jealous of your friend's find!!

This is freakin' adorable!
I can't wait to see the finished product!

I used up the fabric Camelotcats sent to me!
This is what I came up with:
th_clothingcreation001.jpg

I still have to finish the hem. I decided to use binding (I like the clean look of it) so I have to get to the store now to get it. I also have another one that I am doing for Julia. She will be 11 months when we go, so I am trying to figure out her size.
I'll take action shots later when Zofia feels like trying it on.
That is so cute!!! I just love what everyone is coming up with with this fabric! I have a semi-plan for mine too. I have too many plans in my head, and not enough into the fabric though!!! :rotfl: :dance3:
That is really cute!!! I was going to vote for peasant top, but then I saw you allready did it! I love your little applique. Some day I'm going to try one of those!
Sock monkey's kind of scare me, but that's cute fabric!!! I love the Dr. Seuss ones!!! What a great friend!

Watch out! I used to make all my DD's clothes. Then when she was getting married, I took her dress shopping and we found one that we both loved. When I got home that night the phone was ringing. She said, "Mom, I don't want to get that dress. All my life I dreamed you would make my wedding dress. Please, please."

Cutting into $149 a yard lace is nerve wracking-:scared1: -but on the bright side--I finally used algebra for something -- figuring out how to shorten the train! :lmao: :lmao:

Now I'm making stuff for my grandkids!
That is so sweet!!! I hope your daughter can get you a picture. I'm sorry you lost so much in Katrina.
30 years? I already have Morgan's husband picked out! (It is actually a VERY sweet story-she cared for him in China). He is soooo sweet. And I just love his family. Did you buy silk in China for a wedding dress?

Awww, and how does he feel about Jord and the Bitty Babies? Is he willing to take on that responsibility?

Guess where we ate lunch today?? Burger King!!! I saw a commercial for the Cabbage Patch Kids in the Kids Meals, and I told the girls we were going! They are pretty cute!!

you know I like quality emb thread and do not buy yhecheap stuff. but if there is a sale on at joanns I stock up!!

the tear away is at both

What kind do you buy at Joann? I am just getting up my nerve to try my embroidery machine and I bought a spool of red Coats & Clark just to try it out. I didn't even think to look at other brands.

Riley finished her first project on her new sewing machine today!

She got the brother 6000 for Christmas and she has been going crazy wanting to sew sew sew! She did 90% of these all by herself and she could have done more if she just wasn't so worried that she would make a mistake. She even sewed the rick-rack all by herself.

I am so proud of her. She was sooooo excited when she got them finished!

AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!

Here are the girls before school for their Valentine's Party

Now, what kind of top do you guys think I should make to go with the skirt? tank or peasant? A ruffle at the bottom? I am unsure what to put with it.
Cute skirt! I just had to comment that I have a Kenzie as well. Don't that name very often.

What a cutie!! That fabric is so springy- I love it!!
I have to say I am jealous that you can see the Grass!!!

Well we had a great day at MOA I remembered before we left that I had won a gift certificate to any store so Guess where I went..........
That's right the DISNEY STORE!!!!! And of course they are have a sale this weekend too so I spent $15 and used up my certificate (by the way I've had for at least 5 years, and the cashier did know how to enter it in the register- It was kinda funny!!:rotfl: ) We went to the underwater adventures aquarium too!! Lots of fun- My feet hurt! Lots of cute pictures :cutie: No customs but I'll share a couple pictures tomorrow/today.

I was to get to joanns on friday- I bought embroidery thread (50% off & That I am dying to try!!) and heat n bond (50% off- .99 per yard) Some FQs for easter outfits. I also found a chocolate brown corduroy remnant(which was also 50% off) for a chocolate bunny applique ( thank you amyclutterbug- that jumper is cute and totally cabed) and I bought elastic bty- thanks for that tip ladies!! Can I ask a question though what is the difference between braided and knitted elastic??
I was going to do some princess clippies- but my dh "put away" my glue gun and now can't find it :headache:
Do we know what happens at Pg. 250??

Teresa- who is mk & ashleys cousin?? :confused3

How wonderful! I take sewing classes with my 16yo to refine our techniques and she is feeling all Project Runway-like.

Super to start them young! :thumbsup2 You make a great teacher!

PS I actually teach hula to kids and I plan to add kid's sewing classes on weekends. I am curious ... does anyone else teach sewing as a side business?

Hi Sally, Which Joann's were you at? I'd love to find that fabric too - I forget which part of DE you are from (you are from DE, right??? lol)

When you put another layer under a dress, does it matter what kind of material? I was eyeying some white eyelet fabric yesterday at Joann's, but it was a little $$ - would I use the same amount of that as the actual dress skirt and then sandwich the tulle "skirt" in between them?

Thanks, Wendy

I got it at the store in Christiana. It looked like the bolt was just opened, but someone did get a cut before me. There was plenty left when I was done.

I like to use symphony fabric for linings and ruffles. It has some poly in the cotton, so it doesn't wrinkle as much. Plus it's cheap. Only $1.99 a yard (on sale now for $1.49). I use it to make all the slips for Kirsta's dresses.
