We went to see UP 3D yesterday at 3:30 and the theatre was PACKED with teenagers who just graduated high school and they were laughing LOUDLY...it was refreshing to see teens at a movie like this. There was also a van from a retirement village that brought out about 14 seniors, all of whom loved it.
My daughter wants to be a PIXAR animator and she and my husband are gifted artists, so we see all PIXAR movies the day they come up, and I have to say, this is one of THE BEST.
It is a beautiful story about the love and relationship of an unconventional couple...yes, there are sad parts, I was actually bawling like a baby in a few parts! It has an "Its a Wonderful Life" vibe where the dreams you have don't work out, but the life you get is better than what you could have imagined. I actually didn't expect the story to be as rich as it was.
As far as the poster who said it was violent...ummm, yes, it had kind of a few scary moments with barking dogs and the explorer is a mean guy with a scary voice provided by the amazing Christopher Plummer (sigh...he is so handsome in Sound of Music), but the theatre had tons of little kids and nobody was scared. The "guns" were tranquilizer guns...it was mild cartoon violence, nothing scarier than what you'd see in "The Lion King", but there was a lot of action. Kudos to Ed Anser for another beautiful performance...I cannot WAIT to get a picture at HS next week with the characters!
I highly recommend this movie...but see it in 3D, it is amazing!
