Splash and BTMR closed again this morning? [Thursday Feb. 22nd]

It is definitely disappointing to have 3/4 big rides down at MK all afternoon. We were in line for Space Mountain on Tuesday night and it went down. FOP was down for several hours yesterday, luckily we were able to catch it before we had to leave for dinner when it came back up. And today we lost out on Big Thunder. Definitely never had three FP affected before in the same trip. We come a lot so not a big deal, but it is frustrating especially with the crowd levels. It’s causing the FP lines for the rides that are open to be insane.

That's another one... Brand new ride, so there shouldn't be instability related to age/wear yet, but it seems to have TONS of full or partial closures. I'm seriously second-guessing my plan for it because I made our FP for when it works for our overall plan, but that's pretty late in the day so we won't have a second chance to get on it if it is closed during our FP window.

That's ridiculous.

We were lucky, no downtime for any rides the 9 days we were there except for Tower of Terror.

Hey guys... BTMRR is back up.... so that's 1 of 3 up now!

EDIT: Nevermind, it's closed again! WHAT!
I just saw that! Was watching the app and it said 45 minute wait for BTMRR, then suddenly closed.

We are now waiting in line for Buzz Lightyear. Not because we particularly want to see him. But just because we have nothing else to do. :hyper:

We have a 5th fastpass coming up soon for SDMT because someone gave up on it I suppose, but not expecting it to be open.

Hopefully our HEA dessert party will let us end on a happy note. If the fireworks show doesn’t break down . . . :scared:

Lol. Nice. We're nearing the end of our trip. I'm at the point where I'm intentionally grabbing any Splash or BTMRR fastpass I can find, under the assumption it will essentially turn into an anytime fastpass. If not, then that's just an added bonus!

Good strategy!

I'm actually planning to dump a 6:45 pm FP for 7DMT on the day we're at MK and trade it for a HM one closer to noon. :confused3

Fortunately I have all my MK FPs in the first few hours of the day, so if something goes wrong I'll be able to change things up. But at AK... I booked FoP for after dinner, knowing that we wanted to see Pandora in the dark, AND it is on the last day of our trip because the FP is so hard to get on short trips. So if it is down during our return window we're just going to miss it. :(

I was at MK today..... Both BTMR and Slash went down at the same time. BTMR has reportedly come up and down a couple times today. I had Fast Passes for those both, so I got the Multiple Experiences pass for those. Used 1 on Space Mountain..... Went on 7DMT and had to be escorted off the mountain after waiting 15 minutes so I got another ME pass. Are these only good for today? Or do they carry over for my stay?

Rain doesn't stop Radiator Springs Racers in DL. I know that is newer than Test Track though so maybe they were able to work out the problems with Test Track when constructing RSR. I visited DL last January and February when it was much rainier than usual and I don't remember the roller coasters being closed down. I went to WDW in 2015 and it hardly rained (unusual I know) so can't compare with personal experience. I hope Disney is doing something to address these latest rash of closures whether it be guest mistakes, CM mistakes, CM cut backs or wear and tear. If it is mostly guests doing something wrong, then surely Disney can do something additional to make sure guests know what and what not to do like better signage, better instructions from the CMs, more CMs to help out slow guests......

Its not about rain but lightning. Florida has one of the highest strike rates in the country. Quick google search and in 2016 Florida was struck 1,229,516 times while California was struck 48,958.

ME FastPasses are generally only good for the same day, but I got one last trip that was good through the following day. I thought maybe it was because I was staying onsite and that was my checkout day, but it looks like it was because it was the final hour the park was open when it went down. Now, one time I scanned into 7DMT and the ride went down while I was in line. Those who waited around got paper FastPasses which were good until the end of the month. I used mine at 7DMT a week later.

And our SDMT fastpass line is backed up around the corner to BOG. All the people who had a FP in the last two or three hours are now in line.

Is it a Catch22? People want more park hours so they give them but the rides are aging. More hours are hard on them. It's harder and harder to keep them running the hours that the public wants them open and running. They try to reduce operating hours to cut down on stress on equipment (among other reasons of course) only to have complaints so they increase hours only to have breakdowns. They can only do so much during the hours they are closed, mechanically.

ETA - I don't know much about theme parks in all areas of the country but I know some are not open 365. Even Universal, while open 365, doesn't run the hours Disney does. Ride wear and tear has got to be a big factor. Should they do more to keep them up? Yes. As much as possible. How much is possible? That I don't know. My DH is a structural engineer. He's often amazed they can run like they do
Are they even offering the same hours now they did a few years ago? I thought they cut back on EMH hours so they would have more down time to maintain the attractions.

LOL I did that with Test Track last August! (It was down frequently - of course because of rain/lightning (tons of both in late August) - but many times when it had been clear out all day thus far! Even at 8am EMH- it was down until 9:30am (making EMH useless: the wait for Soarin during EMH was double what it was by 9:30am). And all 3 times I had FP for it. And they do not let you do FEA as replacement, at least not then.))

That is a great strategy. Unless most everything you want to ride is down for most of the day. Then you can use your anytime fastpass on Tomorrowland Speedway since it will have a 60 minute wait as it is one of the few open rides.

Not at all. Most of Disney's outdoor or hybrid indoor/outdoor rides are far more weather tolerant than Test Track. I've ridden BTMRR, Splash, Everest, Kali, the safari, Primeval Whirl (okay, watched the kids ride that one - I don't do spinning), etc. in moderate-to-heavy rain and they continue operating as usual. Test Track, on the other hand, is much more sensitive to rainfall - it simply doesn't take much to close it, and it doesn't reopen until the outdoor portion of the track is relatively dry. My only argument is that installing a ride that cannot run in anything more than a drizzle isn't the best idea in Orlando.

I agree Test Track is more sensitive than the others, but I've seen the others close in rain. Remember, the others don't go anywhere near as fast as TT, I'm sure that's a part of the "issue", along with lightning. I know what you're saying, but at the same time, I'd hate for the Imagineers to limit themselves simply because central FL is prone to t-storms. There are plenty of dry days that the ride can run just fine. The water parks face the same issue, they have to close often.
